Career path help.

I've recently been thinking of my future career. I was really looking forward to something that has to do with psychology. I like the subject of how the brain functions and therapy and stuff like that. I was also thinking about a job that has to do with public speaking. I'm not like the average teen when it comes to public speaking. I've spoken to large crowds, rapped with my friends in front of over 4000 people, and others.

What I mainly wanna know is, what are some good jobs that involve psychology and/or public speeking?

Politics? I've always found it boring. I can't even stay awake in civics class. Do you know any other branches of public speaking?
[quote=Eeveepony I'm getting into counseling and school psychology because I want to help people, not because I want to be well paid because most psych jobs

Psychiatrist does similar activities, but you get to prescribe drugs. Sure it's in the medical field, but it's more stable, financial wise.
It's also 4yr of undergrad, hoping/praying you get into medical school, then 2-4 of residency. I had to drop med school plans, I couldn't ace orgo.
My friend did some research on Psychologists in the past and he concluded that they get the bulk of their money by selling books...
So in a sense, you are killing two birds with one stone. You listen to people, AND you get to advertise your book to an audience.
Depends on location. My mentor is 28 and makes 100k+ a year and has never written a book. He also refuses to take insurance though

OT: It sounds like Clinical is your interest focus. My lab group is under a clinical psychologist and he does a lot of work with intellectual disabilities and brain function and how it relates to therapy (which is my part in the group)

I don't think job prospectives are particularly bright in those areas at the moment.
My teacher said that it's hard to get a job into counseling? Is it true? I don't mind difficult coursework; it might teach me a thing or two about hard work and determination.
It's EXTREMELY difficult to get into grad school. Getting a job is easy, you work for yourself. You need an excellent GPA, GRE/PsychGRE/volunteer hours/work experience in the field, with at least one year of research.

Getting into research is easier and you need to get into it for the right reasons. Thinking you will strike it rich will kill your determination for it. I studied 40+ hours this week for an exam I completely bombed today, you need to learn to expect that. I'm getting into counseling and school psychology because I want to help people, not because I want to be well paid because most psych jobs, you will be lucky with 50k a year
Psychology is fun, it has a lot of branches. I'm in the Neuro/Counseling area myself. The coursework is extremely difficult but I'm hoping it pays off. I'm probably going into teaching and school psychology.
You can also go into biopsych, neuropsych, counseling/behavioral, social work, mental health counseling, clinical, school, forensic, etc. You can teach at the university/college level with a MA/MSc or a Ph.D/Psy.D.

I don't think I can live on a part time job while still paying for school. :s
