Anyone Aware of the Possible Influx of New Players?
I'm just assuming this is bound to happen, but if any of you have Steam you might know about this. Nexon has been making their games more widely available through the use of the PC Gaming Client, Steam. Lately Nexon has been putting all of their games into Steam's F2P database. Currently, they have Combat Arms, Atlantica Online, Dungeon Fighter Online, and Vindictus. I'm just assuming somewhere along the line MapleStory will be thrown into the mix. When this happens the possibility of more players joining the ranks will be greater since Steam is fairly user friendly. I'm just curious what people think about this.

Wasn't the horny mushrooms and tree stump going extinct enough?
If that happened there would be much less NX events.

I'm not familiar with the way Steam operates (I prefer to buy the game package and have the CD/DVD in my hands- old skool, paranoid), but since they're really just a distributor of games, I'd expect their CS is limited to purchase problems, and the original game companies are responsible for game related support.
So yes, that means the understaffed Nexon support people would have to deal with any influx of new players from being promoted through Steam.
If you think the game is chaotic now, just wait.
Steam won't take on Nexon's responsibilities as they will probably be handling their own games. Steam is owned by Valve by the way.. But if they haven't taken CS responsibilities of DFO or any of Nexon's other games they won't be doing it for Maple.
The question is how the Customer Support problem is addressed under the Steam F2P setup. Will Steam themselves take on any of the CS responsibilities, or will that stay with Nexon (with the inevitable result we're all used to seeing already)..?
Oh, god, support! If they are already as short-staffed as they appear to be right now, what on earth will happen if there's a significant influx of new players?

If Nexon does indeed put Maplestory into the Steam F2P mix, there will undoubtedly be an influx of new players.
It will no doubt cost Nexon to have their games distributed this way, but since a constant flow of new victims.. er.. players... is the life blood of the F2P model, they should undoubtedly benefit overally. Plus it will save them considerably on promotion.

If the users of Steam who don't already play MS are anywhere near decent, I would expect them to leave soon enough. No sane person should want to stay in a cesspool.
I was about to say that the community couldn't possibly get worse, but... from my lips to the gods' ears. Who knows.
Maybe our reputation is already sufficiently besmirched from the ad campaigns Nexon apparently runs?
