Try and think of it like this, let's go back to the A.D. 900 where all of Europe was running a mock, and you owned a little land but didn't feel secure, I'm the king, you want to be part of my kingdom, i give you security but in return, I want you working on your land for me.
Live out in the wild or live in a metal cage... hmm tough choice
I did a debate of this in class once. I would rather have freedom since why is it worth living if I can't do anything since I might die.
