Favorite anime and why?

What's your favorite anime, Basil?

Rules for this thread:
-State your favorite anime! If you don't like anime, why are you here?
-Explain why! No saying "idk, cus its cool" or anything like that. List legitimate reasons!
-Talk about how you found this anime.

I'll start.
My favorite anime is Ojamajo Doremi. I know it was made for young girls, but it's very nostalgic for me. When I was about ten, Fox Box aired a new show called Magical DoReMi which was the horrible 4kids dub of Ojamajo Doremi. Since I was only ten, I didn't know it was terrible and couldn't tell the difference between that and an anime meant for boys.

I remember how my little sister and I used to play pretend and act like we were witch/wizard apprentices. It was really fun, and looking back on it, it was a really well-made anime.

What people don't realize is that Doremi addressed a lot of serious issues. In the Japanese version (where the voices weren't horrible and in the end there were six witch apprentices) they addressed language/cultural barriers, puberty, depression, and even death. In one episode, Doremi meets a girl named Non-chan; she has cancer, and Doremi and her friends decide to make Non-chan a witch for a day, which is Non-chan's dream. In the end of the episode, Non-chan struggles for survival in a hospital bed while Doremi stays there to support her, but Doremi is then forced to leave the room. Later, Doremi is informed that she died.

Other than that, the anime had five super-catchy openings and really likable, innocent characters. Who cares if it was meant for young girls? These days you only find ecchi anime with constant sexual humor and shonen anime with senseless action and violence.

So, whether people agree or not, I'd say Ojamajo Doremi is one of the greatest animes of all time.

What's your favorite anime?

death note - because the main character is epic(same with the show), the plot is so well made and gets you to really think about life at some scenes.
Dragon Ball Series - Yes because the characters are awesome and the vegeta and goku rivalry is amazing.
Code Geass - its similar to death note but a different story.
hajime no ippo - its funny, and amazing to see the main characters growth.

I remember old fox anime dubs. Remember One Piece?
I saw a few episodes as a kid. it looked okay, but I hated Luffy's voice.
My friend recently got me into it by telling me to watch the japanese subbed episodes.
The main reason I like it is because most of the strange "superpowers" not only are completely explained within the context of the story, but have their own weaknesses. No super power is perfect, and I like that. In fact, some of the extremely powerful main characters are completely normal, using the weaknesses of each 'superpower' to their advantage.
Also, Samurai Champloo, also my friend got me into it, and I like it because it is also very well drawn and animated, and the actual fight scenes are very epic, the soundtrack is amazing, and it's got some nice humor.
YES! Samurai Champloo FTW
I love the style of art and the balance between humor and action. It's fantastic.

Honorable mention: Wolf's Rain. It's quite obscure and I've only met two people in my life who have seen the entire series and liked it. The storyline is unique and I really liked the characters, although I thought the relationship between Kiba and Cheza was weird at the end, when they're embracing and Cheza's nails grow to the point where they cut into his back 0-o

ot: after about six or seven episodes...Denno Coil is fast becoming a favorite (we'll see how it continues). but it manages a combination of several aesthetics like Miyazaki's, Satoshi Kon's, and Majutsu no Index. great and authentic characterization of the kids, and it balances being whimsical and fun with the dark underside of urban legends and stories we believe as kids.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Uminiko no Naku Koro Ni, Monster, Elfen Lied, Ergo Proxy, Welcome to the NHK, Gankutsuou. Why did I list them all together? Simply because I liked them all for the same reason. I'm a psychology nut. Anything having to do with a cognition that's abnormal will grab my attention in an instant. If you enjoy psychology then I strongly recommend all of these animes. I found them by watching anime (I watch quite the bit of anime, going down lists and watching the first couple episodes of each one until one grabs my attention).

milky holmes is incredibly stupid but so ridiculously funny.

found k-on through a neopets friend and mh though /a/.

Eyeshield 21 is a great manga! I've never watched the anime, but it probably doesn't do justice to the manga. The art is so versatile and dynamic.

For actual anime, it would probably be Spirited Away (for the characters), Mononoke (for the soundtrack/also characters), and Ponyo (because it makes me feel happy.) combined together. Also, FMA Brotherhood because it has just about the only dub that I really like, and Bleach, because Kubo Tite always draws everybody hot.

too many animes: I have lots of favorites but It's hard to compare them since they're all different genres.

For the typical shounen jump long-running action ones: Hitman Reborn
For comedy, slice of life animes I would say: Working!
For drama/romance: Clannad
For sports: Eyeshield 21, although Hajime no Ippo is a very close second
For psychological thriller: Death Note
Other good mentions: Seto no Hanayome (romance comedy), Hayate no Gotoku (gags), Prince of Tennis, Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, Toradora, and some others I can't remember at the top of my head
Tough. I liked The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Elfen Lied.

Haruhi Suzumiya: Found through this video. I like it because it's so theoretical and philosophic while still being hilarious. I still cite it in my own thought patterns.

Elfen Lied: Found through Basilmarket recommendations, although it seems to have died in popularity. I like it because it's just a rush of every single human feeling in existence. You're laughing one minute and crying the next and shouting "WTH JUST HAPPENED" the next. Also raises very interesting questions about society.

@Missy: You might be interested in looking up "Doctor Faustus", the play that I believe Black Butler was inspired by.
Wow... Those two are my favourites and for very similar reasons. But I also swear by Berserk. In the last episode, you truly understand the epitome of rage.

I have a ton of anime's that i like. Im gonna go in order with what I like.
Inuyasha - This was the first Anime that got me into Anime. My reason for liking it is because I love animes about love. I find the characters cute. I also enjoy the plot, best plot I've seen in an anime.
Pokemon - I believe this was the first anime I've ever seen. Now I DO like it, but I don't watch it. Mostly because they do the same thing every episode. Travel, battle people, train, take on leagues. It never changes. But still, I'm gonna watch some of the newer one when I can. I dun know why I watch it, it's just the pokemon are so cute. o3o
Fruits basket - I love this anime mostly because of the humor. I never really got the plot much, but I love how funny it is. c:
Wolfs Rain - I did sorta like this. But it sort of scared me. ._. Too much blood in it. Like, I eat snackies sometimes when I watch tv, eating and seeing blood pour out of someone is gross at the same time KTHXBAI. D: But I mainly watch it because I luff wolves. <3 Well dont watch annymore, but maybe sometime soon. Still like it.
Naruto - I dont watch this much anymore mainly cause when I miss 2-3 episodes, I feel like I've watched too much and cant watch it again till I've seen the rest. The only thing is, its needs more humor. D: I really want to watch more but...I'm not subscribed to their channel and I dont know how. But I do find it cute c: The love in it was sweet. The plot was pretty neat too. Would so watch it again if I could.

im stuck between fairy tail and soul eater
1 fairy tail for the awsome magic and creativness such as relating a guild to the 7 deadly sins
2 soul eater because 1.1) Black*Star is beast 1.2)u get to have a hot babe as a wepon 1.3) u can make yourself more powerfill by screaming SOUL RESOANCE

also dears was kinda good for a bner but aliens crash landing on space... hered it too many times>.<

K-ON (inbefore haters) because it's a series that didn't need fanservice, flashy fight scenes, DEEP character development, or a dramatic and twisting plot to be entertaining, which is probably why I watched it above the other series of their respective airing seasons. They took a series that just focused on girls doing cute things while every once in a while playing a few songs for us and provided two successful seasons that overpowered the rest of the industry in popularity and sales, and it was such a simple formula.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Wide variety of fun characters, cool battle scenes, it's about the mafia and I love the "Dying Will Flame."
Great storyline, but sometimes the art in the manga throws me off.
The anime is great, but they left us at episode 203 and will be back "later in spring." =.=

Tsumiki no Ie

It's definitely one of the greatest titles no one has ever heard of. Despite being a very short title (just 12 minutes long), it's a beautiful and poignant reflection of decades of a human life. The story follows an old man that lives in the middle of nowhere, in a house that is continuously being built up as the water level rises. One day, the man decides to swim down, and in doing so, the environments below him take him back in time, to precious and pivotal moments that a man in his twilight has left to look back on. There is no dialogue, as the story is portrayed in the frames, and are revealed to the viewer in his recollection and retrospection. The audio, however, is often acoustic with strings that spring into life with emotion, and even the sound of dripping water feel immensely important. The end of the video reveals the most obvious truth of humanity: one is born alone, and one will die alone, but are we really alone in the first place?

EDIT

I have too many favorites T~T
1) Katekyo Hitman Reborn: This is probably my favorite because i find the fighting scenes somewhat cool. Can't explain
2) Fairy Tail: I like it because it's really funny, and the main characters don't piss me off (like Sauske and Naruto and Sakura)
3) Pokemon: I just love pokemon, my favorite season is currently best wishes because Team Rocket is like crazy evil now and I like that)
4)Digimon: One of the first animes I watched when i was a child. Really funny and addicting. Only the first and second season though!
5) Cardcaptor Sakura: another one of my favorites, i like the fighting scenes. I also find it very cute
6) Full Metal Alchemist (both of them): Very funny show, and had the perfect balance of seriousness as well. Fighting scenes were cool.
7) Bomberman B-daman Bakugaiden: One of my favorite animes. I watched it in cantonese, so i didn't really understand all of it. very funny show though, and it's very cute

My not so favorites, but i still watch them
Bleach: I liked it at first mainly because i played a bleach game right before i started watching it, and i was in love with hitsugaya. It's not really one of my favorites though. i jsut watch it because i want to finish watching all the animes i start, and i actually do want to know what happens after it)
Naruto: originally my favorite anime. Too many fillers though, but i enjoy the plot and the fighting.
One Piece: Originally also one of my favorites, it has dropped down. Luffy is dumb and he pisses me off. I thought it was a really funny show at first, and it still is. The fighting is okay i guess.

sorry, i only watch mainstream anime :X
One Piece, no question.

No fillers, always entertaining.
well one piece does have a lot of fillers its just that in the anime they make it fit into the story (except for those luffy boss stories), the whole deal with the dragon before grandline, g-8 and jonathan, the rainbow mist are all filler
but i would agree that one piece is my favourite anime obviously by my name cuz its got:
amazing storyline, character development, and no wasted time seeing them train(naruto ugh)
and my girl friend showed it to me
EDIT: oh yea and its got the saddest moments

DBZ
it's just a childhood anime that everyone will remember it's awesomeness
Reason: sure it have those charge up scenes but it made it epic and plus it was perfect on dub (funimation dub) and non-stop fighting scenes and makes naruto and bleach look like emo piece of trash
i found it by surfing through the channels and it caught my attention.

Slam Dunk was awesome. Same for Shin Chan and Doraemon. And oh yeah, Detective Conan!

The more mature ones (excluding Slam Dunk) are Bleach (still watching; way too long! I'm never gonna finish!), Eureka Seven (forgot to watch it), Code Geass (only watched a few episodes because I forgot to watch it for a long time), and... that's about it. I don't watch that much anime.

hmm, so much to choose from but if I could only choose one, it would be occult academy
why? because it has action, drama, romance? all in one anime, and I just love all 3 genre
well I found the anime had a gripping plot, but the ending could have been better.

(I can't just choose one anime D
Clannad is tied 1st
why? because it has humor, romance, a bit of action and a whole lot of drama, I love all them genres
I found the anime awesome, I cried at some episodes too, I just love it.
