I don't understand Dubstep

Honestly, I don't. As a giant fan of DnB (Drum & Bass) you would think that Dubstep would be up my alley but it's not. I find that the majority of Dubstep is simply taking a song, remixing it with an amazing drum line, adding good bass, but then ruining it with repetitive "wah wah" noises in triplets or quintuplets just for the fun of it.

Case in point

Good remix with the drum line. Bass is added in, sounds great. Not a big fan of repetitive lyric mixing but I can deal. But when you get to 1:22, it sounds like complete crap.
I don't understand how people can listen to this and consider it musically "good". It's very generic and it's in every crappy dubstep song.
The only thing worse about the genre is that every little kid that listens to it talks about how "Dubstep makes me...." and then adds some explicit. I'm sure you do that, 12 year old.

All my favorites are literally dubstep.
Learn to comprehend. I'm saying screaming into the mic doesn't take much talent, but that doesn't mean I hate it.

Just as dubstep songs take a quick 15-30 minutes to create, doesn't mean I hate it.
sorry, but i didn't bother comprehending such a stupid and irrelevant statement you made prior to this post. we were talking about the time it takes to make a dubstep song, not if screamo songs required talent or not. and quite honestly, i would say that screaming into a mic does take talent- maybe it's not the kind of talent that you LIKE, but it does require skill.
oh, and personally i find people bagging on the amount of time it takes to create a song pretty offensive when it comes to music taste.. lol

Judging to the responses youve made it doesnt seem like you really care.
So why make this thread?
Yes, but when you make screamo, all the vocalist does is scream. Does that mean I hate it? No.
It's not the genre, it's the fact that some of the best songs happen to have the wubwuwubbwubz that you dislike. Unfortunately dubstep is becoming mainstream so of course the chat section is going to be engulfed in mainstream hatred by the likes of what is basil.

If I'm permitted to say so on these forums. Dubstep is pretty much the music equivalent to robot intercourse. I mean like meh.. sometimes it can be nice with some satisfying beats, but when pushed to the limits of ridiculous bass "undulations" it can be very grotesque if ya catch my drift. Don't get me wrong here, I like my heavy "thrusting" beats, but please can we "wubwub" a bit less?

The good dubsteb is the one without excessive drops.

@ZombieOverlord: How? I mean, its just a few beats repeating over and over again. It KILLS me to listen to it for hours on end. It has no meaningful or interesting lyrics, and half the time the beat isn't even that good. Why do you like it?
I'm not a hater.

Do you like hardcore country music? No, so you must be a hater.
no, you are lolol he never said hardcore country music takes 15 minutes to write one song and it only takes a short amount of time to come out with an album, whereas you did
get out lmao

W/e man, I'm a fan of "wub."

And how is it generic?
Nearly every dubstep song has "wub?"
Well yes. Dubstep is defined by the presence of "wub," just as rock is defined by guitars, and electronic music is defined by synths.
Without it, dubstep would be closer to something like progressive house or, IDM.

Granted, it is possible, but not very common because most people do not know how to make proper dubstep without, "wub."

Besides, in my opinion, dubstep isn't supposed to sound..."good" (for lack of a better word).
It's meant to sound..."filthy" (again, for lack of a better word)

Gah, I liked a dubstep song so much, so I started to listen to other songs, and then I was disappointed and thought the same thing as you.
How can ANYONE stand to listen to songs like Dubstep, or just electronic music in general. I've tried to listen to electornic music, but it just kills me. I mean, its so BORING. They're okay to listen to once, but after that you realize its all the same thing repeating for 3-8 minutes. I just can't stand it.
Really?
I love electronic music in general.

lol that's funny since for me, it's practically the opposite. i like dubstep a lot, but can't really stand only d&b.. i guess the whole wobble/"wubwub" thing adds a little flare into the song for me. plus, i love drops in dubstep songs.. it gets me hyped to listen to the whole song.

btw, i'm sure you don't care that much, but that remix of hide&seek is trash... is much better

feel free to disagree (which i'm sure you will haha!)

I'm also not a huge fan of dubstep. The only dubstep song I really like is this.
Drum and Bass is much better in my opinion.

I'm going to be honest and say the only reason I got into dubstep was because I had an awkward conversation with someone on maplestory while we waited to get into a pq.

its sooo monotonous and i cant stand it, love dnb but but I'm really selective about what i actually listen to. its like industrial electronica, its been done before and i don't really care for industrial in the first place.

but actual dub music, that's where its at.

Well, I don't enjoy dubstep in general, but this song just hit me. The only dubstep song that I like, to be honest.
I don't like dubsteb for exactly the reasons you listed. It pretty much all sounds the same. I have heard some decent songs without much "WUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUB" but they're usually by pretty rare, unknown artists. I suppose one could argue that true dubstep is in fact "wubwubwubuwub".
Yeah. I get people that are like "Obviously you haven't heard THIS" and then post something without the "wub". Like yes, I know there is dubstep without the "wub", but it's few and far between and the "wub" is more of a reason why people like dubstep and call it dubstep.

Well it's kinda like WOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMP
WOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMPWOMP and then somtimes there will be a part like YUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYGYUYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYUGYGYUG and then sometimes there's this really crazy part like WUBWUBWUBBABEWUBBAWUBBAWUBWUBWUBBABEWUBBAWUBBAWUBWUBWUBBABEWUBBAWUBBA And that's all there is to get breh.

This is how I see it.

Dubstep = Evil Style
Drum and Bass = Lone Style

There both good in there own style. I listen to both, but more of Dubstep.

Why I like them, I hate vocal, and mainstream is full of that. Beats + Bass is all I want and now there is a Genre that fits me.
I only started listening to this style since September 2010.

Also the song you posted isn't what I would be liking either.
Pop + Dubstep =/= Working

Hopefully those will change your mind I got into dubstep probably a year ago; I like it because of all the bass, the weird aspect of it, and also it just sounds good to me.

I can enjoy dubstep, but this particular remix just plain sucks. That original song of Imogen Heap is too beautiful to be touched by any artist (Tiƫsto failed miserably too -_-)
