Ray of Redemption for healing party members?

My ray of redemption healing skill is maxed. Does anyone know how ray of redemption works in healing party members? How close do I have to be in order to heal them when I hit monsters and stuff? Do i have to be close to them, or does the skill have to just flash on him? :l I do know it works on party members, but sometimes it just doesn't seem like it works all the time. x.x

I also noticed how finicky this skill is... It seems to only attack monsters or heal allies, but it does not seem to do both at the same time...
but that is just my observation.
The more serious question at hand is why is your Ray of Redemption maxed in the first place?
Because you don't use Moonlight Spear (or whatever it is) in fourth job and Spectral Light is better for most places.

I maxed RoR too, and leave Moonlight Spear at 4, because at least it have some use in 4th job, and in 3rd job I only use MS when training in jester map, and only 1sp is enough to 1-hit jester, MS is replaced completely by Apocalyse in 4th job anyway. GMS messed Luminous's mechanic, allow you spam skill when grinding. Now I'm lv146 and don't have light/dark mode change skill, make it very annoying when I'm bossing

they have to be infront of you and you have to be facing the left

Pretty sure it only works when you put the ray on top of their character. (Not above their heads, but on top of them) o.o

It doesn't always heal for me either.

Edit: Only works when facing right for me as well.

Yes, I understand the range in which ray of redemption deals attack, but just using ray of redemption when my party member is near where the box hits, it does not heal him. I want to know the range that ray of redemption heals.
Unless I read it wrong.
