Personally, I wouldn't make a mage. Bishops were screwed by Big Bang. My lvl 166 I/L is ok to play but no one wants to boss with an AM. If I were you I'd make a BM or an NL.

if u, as a person, aren't convinced on which to make, or which u like better who r we to tell u?

but aniway, its good to note that FPs r literally masters of DoT now, they dish out sweet sweet damage and since poison works on bosses now, u're pretty much a dmg hoe without even trying.
ILs on the other hand r more of damage skills, they dont have any DoT skills till the very end (with bliz n ice demon only) but almost ALL of their attack skills freeze or stun, their thunder spear at 3rd job does 700% damage at max lvl, with a lil kick to ur damage from amplification, and elemental reset making u able to hit about anything, u can kik some major ass

It all depends on your preference.
FP's are good mobbers at 4th job. whereas their DoT's let them boss more decently.
IL's need to do less during boss-runs (just spam CL) and CL is able to mob 3 monsters at the same time, so it's easy to train with.
Overall, both of the two jobs are pretty balanced. It'd be better to pick one that's able to keep you interested, rather than going for damage.
After all, it -Is- a Game. Try to enjoy it.

F/P mage. I/L mages are overrated. And just a side thought. F/P explosion attack is mad good, range is crazy and super strong at that. My friend is a F/P and he controls a 2 whole plateforms on jesters.
