I used to have this problem i finaly found the solution.
I'm presuming most of the people that have this are kaspersky users, just turn off the antivirus for 1 minute and let it update then you can turn it back on and be able to play normaly, but the real fix is to just turn off the antivirus while you play.
k omg i had this problem and i dont have kaspersky
but after i read ur post, i thought that maybe my antivirus was the problem
so i reduced the permissions to a weaker level on my antivirus and now maple works =D

i know right? D: the only thing i haven't tried, is downloading the next patch's clean hshield folder, then copying into the old patch's client and then manual-patching.

But I really don't see why that'd work especially when others have gotten THEIR maple to try by far easier methods

this is the 4th month i havent been able to play ;s
Try adding a the hackshield.nexon line to the hosts file, it worked for me.
I did try adding the hackshield.nexon line AND the hacksheild.nexon line (last one spelled wrong). I also tried adding them with and without a # at the beginning

i just redownloaded and re installed maple after doing all the countless steps to fixing the HS.

I hope this works..

EDIT:

After working hours, and my reinstall not working, i decided redownload everything again. Then, rather than running MS, i updated the HS straight from the folder. Installing now. Will post progress and success.

goddammit, still doesn't work! My hosts file has NEITHER the guard.nexon.net line NOR the hacksheild.nexon line.
Also, i have no loopback adapter

Bleh. I've tried EVERYTHING. I've -
1)Re-downloaded HackShield and pasted it over the one in my current folder
2)Did the reset winsock thingo that someone suggested
3)Put # in every single line in the hosts file, looked for that line you're supposed to delete in the file
4)Checked if I have the Microsoft Loopback Adapter installed (which I don't)
5)Turned my firewall on and off
6)Disabled my anti-virus

The only thing I haven't tried is re-installing, which I really wanna avoid because I'm nearly capped.

My maplestory was working fine yesterday night. Idk what could have possibly happened between then and now, but i still get an error, in which hackshield updates like 1/8 of the bar and then shuts maple down.

I tried, but there's no such thing as "run as administrator" when you right click it
Is your HackShield error the same error as the thread's? Just want to clarify things.

Glad it worked for you though.
I tried the netsh winsock reset catalog thing, but it says I need to be an administrator know how to open it as an administrator?
Do this...

1. Uninstall MS

2. Delete Nexon folder

3. Google > maplestory V92 > download

4. Install V92 (DO NOT PATCH)

5. Download manual patch V93

6. Patch it now with manual patch (TURN OFF anti virus/ DO NOT PLAY after patch)

7. Google > maplestory clean V93 files > look for hackshield v93 file and download. ( should be one that opens with winrar )

8. Open maplestory folder.( C: > Nexon > maplestory )

9. Delete hackshield

10. Take the hackshield you just recently downloaded of Google and drag it to maplestory folder.

11. Now play maplestory ( another patch / TURN OFF anti virus)

Note: you can enable AntiVirus again after patch on step 11 is complete.

Happy Mapleing...
ill try this thanks I still doubt its gonna work though
