10% when I eat out, I always tip even if poor service :S
In a majority of cases, my parents (or myself) don't tip the waiter or waitress because it isn't customary. My parents did, however, give a waitress a $20 tip because every time we went to that restaurant, she was always positive and helpful.
At least 15% eating out, 10% with deliveries, and I might tip on pickup depending on how much it is and how much I round up or something.
I leave a $5 tip whenever i go out and eat. Unless the waiter/waitress is horrible then i complain to the manager and don't leave a tip.
I usually tip well.
I feel really bad when I don't tip at least 15%. Servers in the US get paid really badly because their employers expect them to get enough tips to make up the difference. I don't agree with this business model, but that's all I can really do to help.
I always tip when I eat out. it doesn't even matter if the service was good or bad (unless it was extremely bad or I really hated the server, which has never happened).

In buffets, no. They don't serve the food to us, so they don't get the tips.

Servers are still waiting/cleaning your table. If a server refills your drink, you wont even bother with a tip?
I tip very generously if I feel like they deserve it, you're suppose to tip 15% but I usually tip 30% depending on the service. I've tipped up to 50% because of amazing service before. I had a lady not make us pay for our drinks because it took her an extra 5 minutes to ring up our bill, so I tipped her a lot, bill without my drink was 11 or 12 bucks, I gave her 20, told her to keep the change.
i usually do but once my family and i went out for some chinese and one of the waitresses tried to scam us of our dough.
so we got pissed off and didn't leave anything.
If they do a bad job, me or my friends will bust out their phone to calculate exactly how much to tip.
But I always tip.
I dont tip if the service was horrible. I tip ~15% and sometimes more if my server goes above and beyond.
I usually tip at restaurants. And I mean proper restaurants. Not crappy fast food restaurants. Although, I'm thinking of adopting my girlfriend's way of thinking.
I only tip if the restaurant I eat out at is good (quality of both the food and the service). There's no tipping culture in Australia.
Depends-
if I get a haircut, I usually tip $3-$5 (depending on how good they are)
if i'm at a restaurant, I tip 10% if service is good, if not i'll give them like $2 or $3 (tipped $1 once at red lobster once because the waiter told me not to share my shrimp with my brother... what kind of stupid rule is that?)
if i'm at a bar, I don't tip. I'm not paying $2 tip for a bartender to open a $2 beer bottle
if i'm at starbucks, I laugh at them for having a tip jar.
In restaurants, if they serve the food and if they're friendly, then yes.
In buffets, no. They don't serve the food to us, so they don't get the tips.
In Chicago, waitresses and waiters in Chinese buffets are real thirsty for tips. o.o
Nope. We don't have to tip in Australia.
take the bills and leave the rest
which is a bunch of coins with some toonies and stuff
10% on pizza deliveries, which is usually $2
almost always.
i worked in a restaurant before and it honestly sucks to see so many people not tipping, even if youre busting your butt to help them out
recently, i've been personally handing the tip to servers, it feels good when someone did that to me, i hope they appreciate my gesture.
Yeah, 15%
@lettucing: Wow 60 hours a week? That's a lot.
It's not customary to tip in the UK either.. So no, I don't, unless the service was amazing.
I went on holiday earlier this year to Canada and I found it the whole tipping thing so strange- I didn't like feeling pressured into tipping. It should really be service based. Why should I tip someone who gave a crap service or served crap food etc?
Only if the service is good.
I remember going to a restaurant in California, the person tending my table was this lady. She came to our table ONLY ONCE. And that was just to get our drinks. When we all ran out of beverages, we waited for her to come back. (The place wasn't even busy) She NEVER came back. We saw her...chillin...at the cash register...doing nothing. Just standing there. My friend had to RAISE HER HAND to get that dumb ass girl's attention but the waitress PRETEND she didn't see anything and looked the other way. She sure as hell didn't get ANY tip. I know she saw my friend's had being raised. She looked at us twice and when she saw all of us glaring at her, she pretended to not see. -.-
Point is, quality of service plays an EXTREME role.
Agreed.
yes obviously
Haven't seen your posts in awhile.
i know right! i work 60hrs/wk and have a time-consuming boyfriend (is there any other kind?).
No cause I'm a cheap Asian
obviously. i'm not a......nevermind.
obviously. i'm not a......nevermind.
yeah, like 5 bucks
@AmericanBoy: Well the more the better for us right but 10% is better than nothing
I tip at least 5 bucks
for the love of god please just tip 10% (or more, if you wish) when you eat at a restaurant serving is a stressful job and I had to spend $90 on clothes before I could even start
the majority of the night time servers at my work are students and we appreciate it so much. Chances are if someone is young, it's a part time job as they're going to school. Older servers... well, they put themselves into that position. Can't imagine trying to live off tips
I always try to tip but I never know how much. Is 10% the normal amount?
OT:Yeah, even with haircuts and stuff.
If they are of black skin color, I tip them to never come near my house ever again.

i think i have only not tipped twice, because i was seriously too poor or something?
in general i do at least 15% if not close to 20%
I don't feel bad when I don't tip. I only do it because others are doing it or that I will be sure to come to the place again.
So yes, I always tip when necessary.
I'm about to order some Jimmy Johns. Should i leave a tip? The total is about 8 dollars...
Waiters depend on tips, so of course. I am generally very generous, because many of those people need every dime they can get.
i give them like 10k, but if they are polite, i give them 1m.
It is not customary to leave tips in Australia, so unless I get phenomenal service I will not tip.
I always leave good tips. Given the service was of quality of course.
It honestly makes a difference if you tip well. You will be remembered and the employees will make sure you receive excellent service.
