Some people might be banned because of mage glitch?
So on a recent post on the official maplestory forums, a worker from nexon said this: "We're aware that players some players are doing a large amount of damage when in fact their damage output should be lower. The issue is being fully investigated and working on a solution to this issue. Also, please note that action may be taken on players who are intentionally taking advantage of this exploit to gain an unfair advantage."
I think this is outrageous that some people might get banned for simply playing their mages. They should not be punished for a mistake nexon made. I say they should just rollback.
What do you think? Discuss.

Well, they should NOT ban because when you start doing 0 damage thats BS. Then you do 999,999. What can you do? Normal damage is rare o.o
So u guys really think nexon will be banning those glitch abusers? Rofl! So u guys think they can find everyone who has abused the glitch? Think about the UA exploit, then u will get the answer.
Your half wrong @TheBigPotato Nexon meant the phantoms who could have avoided the glitch, but decided to steal the mage skill and abuse it.
I don't think Nexon can ban all those who are taking advantage of the glitch...this might be just like the time PVP was "hackable" starting with Ice Knight. I don't recall seeing much people getting banned from that, and I remember seeing one of those hackers some time ago. So the thing is, I highly doubt Nexon would start banning players, sure, give us a message or warning, but don't be banning magicians at random. I just discovered this glitch when I was doing a Hilla expedition, and all of my party members told me I was doing 999,999 damage. At Golden Temple, I found out that I would either do max damage or 1s, and this occurs randomly. So how Nexon would deal with this, I don't know, but I doubt Nexon would ever have a rollback.
I'm not taking their thread seriously until they man up and post it on the main freaking site.
Nexon's really good at dodging issues.
@ChakraMcLuk: But, the thing is that some people are able to control the glitch. Don't ask me how since I don't play a mage, so I haven't been able to test out how. But, I've seen an Evan hit consistent max damage while fighting in Golden Temple. I've seen a Phantom use mage skills to consistently hit max damage in Party Quests. The Phantom at least knew there was some trigger, and there was only one map (his words, not mine) in Ellin PQ that he couldn't hit max damage in.
I agree all mages shouldn't be banned, but there's quite a few that should be banned already.
I don't know what mage glitch nexon is talking about. All i know is sh mobs are nerfed, and Im still doing my crappy 100k damage on them. Oh, and forgot to mention that they made orange mushrooms much stronger now. I can't kill them with 3 ar that hits 100k each line.
Another glitch, for I/L's at least, is that sometimes GL does no dmg to the monster's health now: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56840/Maple0160.jpg
You dont even Realize that your doing 999k. I was so confused when I was mining at Jr.Rog spawn and I KOd it
dam so i cant make evan?
alot of phantoms will have QQ threads pretty soon. i dont see them layin the hammer down on mages tho, cause maple = mage
@ChakraMcLuk: Even though the damage can vary, some people have chosen to stay at places and continue to repeat whatever caused them to cause max damage. So, even though you say it's random, some players are able to control it, to an extent.
...and, if you know anything about gaming, any new content brought into a game usually has glitches in it. But, sometimes, it takes actual gameplay by regular players to flush those glitches out into the open, such as the CWKPQ crashing channels glitch.
If they get banned, it's not just because they're playing their mages. They'll get banned because they are taking advantage of a glitch that allows them to do things they normally shouldn't be capable of just yet.
If that happened to me, on my dark knight, and I somehow hit 999k with all five lines of my dark impale, I would back away from my computer. I know full well that my dark knight is not capable of that kind of damage with the kind of funding I have. (not to say my funding sucks, but it's not enough for 999k per line) I'd be pretty surprised, if not scared. Knowing me, I probably wouldn't log a ticket about it. Instead, I'd go to this forum and see if anyone is having the same problem or make a thread about it myself. The moment I find out it's a glitch, I wouldn't touch my dark knight until it's fixed.
It's unfortunate, and I'd be missing out on a lot of things, but I'd rather not have my dark knight banned for glitch exploitation.
Yes it's Nexon's mistake; I won't argue with that. But the moment a player decides to take advantage of an accidental glitch, that's his mistake and that can have its consequences. Whether or not he knows the consequences for his actions, if Nexon bans him for exploit (or, in this case, continued exploit), that's too bad. His moral senses should have kicked in before he decided to do something he would later regret.
It's like a boy cheating on his girlfriend for one night of pleasure with someone else who can offer more than what his girlfriend is giving. If the girlfriend finds out, the boyfriend can do nothing but accept whatever his girl's decision is. He had to have known that what he did was wrong. And if he didn't think before he cheated, then that's his own fault. Cheating has its consequences, no matter what field it takes place in.
What he said. The moment you use the glitch for your own purposes, I think you should be elligible for being banned but only temporarily.
@ChakraMcLuk : Well, that depends. Let's say there's a party of level 180s fighting Zakum (for the sake of getting the point across) in one channel, and a party of level 100s fighting Zakum in another channel. It's possible for the level 180s to hit max damage on Zakum. But, as for the level 100s, that would probably barely hit Zakum, hitting max damage would fall into the realm of "nearly impossible."
The party with the level 180s may be doing max damage because of the glitch, but it's still possible that they could have hit that damage cap without the glitch.
The party with the level 100s can barely hit Zakum, yet they're doing max damage.
In this example, the level 100s would be considered "abusing this glitch" since they're doing something in the game that they would normally not be able to without the help of this glitch.
I loled. You can't get banned for ksing.
I loled at you and facepalm. Ksing is ban able. Please stop comment bs unless you got evidence of me being wrong. You make yourself look very stupid.

Didn't know this until this morning, when I attempted dojo and finished off the silent crusade quest .
Marksman/DB time.
A rollback shouldn't occur. There has been worse before, ex: familiar exploit back in December for about 2 weeks, mass leveling occurred. After that, there was no rollback. Therefore, I highly doubt there will be a rollback.
There goes half the mage community.
Think about it. I'm a Mage. First thing i did when i went on was go to kill Hilla. I didn't know about the glitch. I simply thought of her as an easy boss and continued to kill her on all 3 of my 120+ mages.
Should I be banned for not knowing?
It's their fault the glitch happened, and for it to occur for every single mage was not our fault.
If an atm started spewing cash at me for no reason, I'm not just going to leave the money there, and you can't arrest me for taking something that was given to me in the first place.
But, it's your fault if you take advantage of it. Mages that take advantage of being able to do max damage are abusing a glitch, which means they can be banned for it.
If an ATM started spewing cash at you, you can get in trouble for taking it and not returning it since it's not yours. It's called stealing.
@mikeee: Nexon can only fix these glitches if they know about them. We notice these glitches fast because we play the game, but I don't think Nexon plays MS after they release an update.
What if azwan hell mode / ksing people is my usual business? Hypothetically, of course.
Then you deserve to be banned because ksing is against the ToS.
Oh darn, most of my characters are mages
if anything they should fire the coders at nexon for even making the glitch in the 1st place, along with another heap of glitches made this patch. why should mages be banned for training?
they don't "make" the glitches. They occur when the coders don't check their work properly. But then again, even double checking does not ensure a perfect product.
How does the glitch work I have a BaM
"Also, please note that action may be taken on players who are intentionally taking advantage of this exploit to gain an unfair advantage."
I think nexon means like, using the glitch as sort of a tool as for like KSing, or using it for things that are honestly unfair to the rest of us. Like earlier today at jesters I was hsing my friend and a level 35 battle mage came in smackin everything around.
I only play mages I think it's pretty funny to down a bw in 2 hits on my bam though haha.
Rollback mages only, nuff said.
Nearly impossible to do , Rollback only a part of a database would only cause even more issues...
Leave it alone , they should fess up to their problem and fix it
They havent even adressed it on the nexon website yet...
This is why I think they should rollback though. The people exploiting the glitch will lose everything they've done, and the people trying it out and not exploiting it will be unaffected.
Yeah, and what about the rest of us that aren't mages? We'd lose everything we've done.
I don't see this post on the website. May i have a link?
Rollback mages only, nuff said.
Just because nexon made a screw up doesnt mean that people shouldnt be able to train , and you know how many people are "Exploiting this" they would ban half the population ,
Furthermore it isnt an exploit like glitching pq in the old days this is in our face , theirs nothing to be done about it.
Im Sorry ! Not going to play because of a screw up , Nope ... gonna go upon my normal training o.o
I cant play my mains great no coins for me today.
key statement is
Also, please note that action may be taken on players who are intentionally taking advantage of this exploit to gain an unfair advantage
That means if you intentionally using it to your advantage, eg: aswan hell mode or use it to ks people etc then thats bannable.
If you are simply just doing your usual business, then its fine
What if azwan hell mode / ksing people is my usual business? Hypothetically, of course.
"it's wrong to take advantage of it, blah blah blah"
So people who say this are telling people they shouldn't play their mages at all?
This is partially Nexon's error; HOWEVER, it is equally wrong to abuse the glitch. Its like saying you have the right to attack someone if they hit you first (unless self defense of course).
Lame abusers are lame.
I already 1 hit all lhc mobs without fc post revamp anyway ^_^
It's most likely a scare tactic to stop people from taking advantage of it.
you abuse it you get the karma you deserve
What about phantoms? I heard that they can hit the max damage as well.
@AaronRawr: well im not abusing it (fyi) just in general its not fair. lets say your main is a Mage and you WANT to train it. think about that
well it not our fault the glitch effects mages only
I would not like a rollback.
I highly doubt they're going to do a rollback.
This is why I think they should rollback though. The people exploiting the glitch will lose everything they've done, and the people trying it out and not exploiting it will be unaffected.
And every other character that's not a Mage will be unaffected too.
Lolno, rollbacks are so bad for Nexon's reputation and it's bad for most players too.
Only the people that are doing Hell Azwan.
I tried it on my BaM and it wasn't working T__T.
Well... Nexon has a point in saying "Intentionally taking advantage of this exploit". So people know what they're getting themselves into... Gotta see it from both sides.
...all of my characters are Mages. ._.
yeah shads ftw
Oh, well, I guess we should all just abandon our mages until Nexon comes up with a solution!
AFK for 20 years!
maybe there talking about all the mages using hacks..?
Darn it, I was going to train my F/P today!
