buying birthday present for cheapskate bestfriend

Okay I love my friend to death but sometimes she can be a little bit naive and use people.. like she is kinda dating this guy but they NEVER made it official and she talks about how he buys her a crapload of food spending like $20 everytime they hang out. So 2 years ago for christmas she said she was going to buy me a present.. she ended up not giving me anything and I spent $15 hello kitty earphones for her. Then on my birthday in may she gave me cookie cutters... WHO GIVES COOKIE CUTTERS? I dont even bake cookies that often, bake at all and she buys CHRISTMAS THEMED COOKIE CUTTERS. Then a month ago on christmas-new years she gave me cookie cutters (same packaging, no brand, plain red thin cardboard casing with a plastic top kinda packaging) as the one before. They look like ones from the dollarstore with no brand name.. like are you kidding me.

She's having this birthday party tomorrow at this restaurant 168 all you can eat buffet so I pay for my $20 meal.. I'm getting something quick from shoppers drug mart but idk what to get and it's combined with my other group of friends basket of goodies. I know it's "the thought that counts" but honestly? cookie cutters.... she is tight on money but not when someone buys something for her she's not reciprocal. I appreciate her as my friend but little things like this don't cut it for a bestfriend.

Hahaha, although I have friends that have traits of cheapness in them, they're not down to this level...man, I sympathise with you.

Why not get her BETTER cookie cutters, as in Premium ones?

I have this exact same problem with people lol. I honestly don't care how pricey or fancy their gift is, but really? Erasers from a dollar store? What sentimental meaning does this have? Not only do you give me erasers, but you give me crap erasers. Thanks, man. Lol I value my friendship with these people so I always try to show that. Gifts aren't always required. No gift is better than some half-assed junk that was bought just to serve as some kind of "present". I like letters lol.

Give her the cookie cutters back lol. This all depends on your relationship with her, too. If you think she'll laugh about it, then go for it

Give the cookie cutters that she gave to you to her.
Say that "ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS!" with a obvious troll face.
