A channel for +18 year old players

Some time ago (around a year ago probably) i remember seeing a picture of a server that had one of his channels only available for +18 year old players. I don't remember much more than that (i think it was on JMS), but the idea got my interest.

Some of us started on Maplestory when we were around 14 or 15. Now that same people it's around age 19, and some of us still play Maplestory, we like it and (even if we don't play as often as before, or with the same intensity) could continue playing it.

Do you think we (older players) could use a channel for only +18 year old people? What benefits this could bring us?

And, if you don't like the idea: Why shouldn't there be one?

While i'm thinking about it, i wanna hear your opinions.

Well, if they make a channel like that u will get kids in it also.. but i think the amount of those annoying lil brads will be less then u gotta face now...

Since a few weeks i'm so done with most of those "kids".. with their ks bs and so one.. I'm just really annoyed by them..
Sometimes i wish there would be some massive rule in the world not to make kids anymore f3..

But on the other side, maplestory is made for kids in the first place.. so yea we should be the outsiders and not they... On the other side it shouldnt be for kids since it's all about $$$$$$$$$...

But i'm moving away from the subject I vote 18+ guilds and just choose a ch together.. since u cant filter out kids..

I don't think many parents or guardians play this game.

The legal age to play this 18.
By signing up for an Account and using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 years of age or over and have the right, authority and capacity to enter into this Agreement, or you are the legal age required to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction if that age is greater than 18. Has anyone proposed a server with an IQ test as a requirement?

@ParkJiHonda:

Since many of you are talking about my suggestion, let me clarify, in hopes that some of you may understand better why certain things are done.

1. Is self explanatory, I understand certain countries DO NOT speak english, and when I meant fluently, I meant that they can type out grammatically correct sentences. The reason being that a majority of the GMS players are from North America, and Canada (Pffft, Canadians... Lol jk)

2. Maplestory DOES NOT require you to do algebra. However, it is a good assessment to see if the player have a brain capacity over the 6th grade. These problems will be easy, but not easy enough to type into a calculator. i.e: 3x + 34 = 2x - 23 . What is x? Doesn't seem like much, but for a more mature channel, no one wants a 4th grader who probably can't divide yet. Math is also a good assessment of how a child's mind is at work.

3. A lot of people have been complaining about this one. I understand there is a lot of room for improvements, but there are at least a group of maplers in each world who would be able to do this. If not, looks like Nexon will have to send in their own employees.

Further more, Nexon probably won't even consider a specific channel for a special group of players.

That being said, flame all you want about my suggestion, unless you have a better one, or a fix to a problem in mine, I suggest you don't just flame.
It is a channel for a more mature group, I don't think there's a better way to do it.

Feel free to suggest a fix, or suggest a new idea.

You know, KMS only set that up because they had a foolproof way of knowing your age: the KCN. It shows how old you are and can't lie, which incidentally blocks you from making multiple accounts. Result? Less hackers repeatedly making new accounts to spam us with.
You saw that on KMS.

And the only reason GMS or other doesn't have this yet is because there is no way to monitor the age, as they do in KMS.
Yes because in KMS they use your SS number to check your info.
This is in KMS, but i'm not sure if it was a single channel or an entire world.
the only reason this is successful in KMS is because you need a Korean SSN to register for Nexon, and obviously you can't fake a SSN.

you can't use a calculator on higher skill math problems that every 18+ can solve like "2x+4y=12" i don't believe kids can solve that so easily.
I'm a 14 year old, taking Junior classes.

Edit: 2x+4y=12 is y=-1/2x+3

I'm exactly as you described - started playing at 14, now 19.

I feel like a big enough creep as it is though, I wouldn't really like a dedicated creep channel, LOL.

And I'm still really wary of people that play who are older than me Sensible 18+ guilds though, now that's another idea...

@Chema:
Using a KSSN that 'makes' you over 18 year old cannot be done from here. You would need to send an sms to some address in Korea, which is quite expensive or hard.

I don't see the point in making a 18+ channel. Being 18+ doesn't always equal maturity.

KMS requires a Korean Social Security Number to play. If that number matches someone over the age of 18 you can enter those channels. I dont think Nexon could ever require us to give our SSN to play this game though. People would complain and parents would rage that they are trying to steal our identities.

That would be nice... maybe they could take off the curse filter for that server too. I'd join it, but people could easily lie about their age =/

I don't really like the idea. Probably because I wouldn't be able to go in the channel myself, but it's just unnecessary.
They aren't even adding too many channels on the servers we have already... but it's still alright. I don't think a new 18+ channel would make a big difference.

People can just lie and go in unless there's something to enforce it.

Until GMS needs your social security number at sign up, this will never happen.

And, if it does, it'll fail miserably.

Not all 18+ are mature. Sometimes children can be more mature than adults. It all depends on the person really.
Yes actually it IS very hard to make and/or maintain a fake Korean Social Security Number in Korea. Every person is given one at birth, and that stays with you for the rest of your life. The government knows what you buy, where you go, everything you do at all times. They don't make "extra" KSSNs. They know whats fake and whats not because there's no extras, and a single database can hold the entire population in one list. If your KSSN doesn't show up on that list, it's fake, illegal, and they'll ban the crap out of you real quick.

You just don't understand how hard it is to fake something against the government in a country where that very government knows EVERYTHING you do. Online, offline, groceries, phone calls, playing games, watching tv, ANYTHING you do that connects to the outside world. The only secret thing you can do (IF that's even secret) is talking to someone next to you, and who knows if they have microphones on the streets listening to what you're doing at all times.

Don't believe me? That's called a police state. Look it up.
Some ppl played MS when they were 8 and they put that they were 13 so they could play. Now say that they were 13 years old, they will be 18 years old according to MS. Also, poor 17 year olds will have to suffer with the 12 year olds,LOL.

Yeah, let's give Nexon our SSN's. That way when someone breaks into the database again, they'll have everyone's SSN's! ya ya ya

ot: No, I think this is a dumb idea, mostly because there'd be too few people, plus anyone who sincerely wants this is just probably a 19 year old who takes themself to seriously.

I'm 19 too but I don't have anything against the kids on here. They're just kids after all, and so am I.

Seems like most of the people thinks the same. I'm neutral about this idea, but it's always good to hear people thoughts.

Thanks to the ones that actually made an effort on their response.

Those were pretty much the most important responses i was looking for. Checking your ID or Social Security Number seems the only reasonable way to determine a person's age exactly.

I too would like to see a +18 channel, but most of the players seem to "hate" the idea for the only reason that not anyone can have access. Haven't seen other really strong arguments against it.

Most 18+ year olds act less "Mature" than most people are aware of... age is just a number. I'm pretty sure this idea would just make that more clear.

I think that'd be a great idea. It would cut down on the amount of KSers and immature kids that decide to harass other players. Of course there will still be those in the 18+ channels but hopefully a lot less. But my question is how they would do this XD

Have a calculus or college level question upon trying to enter the channel? lol

18+ year olds shouldn't even be on Maple.
Nobody would NOT enter the channel just because it says 18+....
Everyone would want to train anyways in places like Gallos so all the popular places would be packed full of minors anyways.

And what's the real point? Just make an 18+ guild if you want a more mature community, but I still don't really see the point...
It would be easier to find more mature people (hopefully) even if you are guildless/find mature peopel for the guild.

Like Gourmand said, they should monitor the age...

I agree with many of the other posters, as you can fudge your age in GMS, unlike KMS, which requires your SS pin to sign up.
With that being said, I do support a channel for more mature (Or non-dumb) people.

Perhaps a test to get into the channel?
This test would test 3 subjects:

1. You speak English fluently (Sorry for all foreign players who don't, but this is GMS)
2. You can do basic math (Such as algebra, etc. This is to make sure they are beyond a basic 7th grade standard in school.)
3. They will be monitored by a Maple Community ( They have this in other games, a group of people (active players) chosen by Nexon to moderate people in the Special channel. Those who are reported by the Community will be taken to a vote, the community as a whole will then monitor this player, and if majority votes the person off, then the person will be booted from the channel for a set time (depending on offense) The Maple Community will obviously not follow the monitored directly, as that will be too obvious.

There's my suggestion, probably won't happen, knowing Nexon doesn't even do anything.
You saw that on KMS.

... wen u make an account they ask for age...

Also, even though the idea isnt far fetched, so i'de consider it reasonable. Doesnt really affect anything in the game in a bad way.

I think that would only work in KMS, because there's a child KSSN registration and an adult one,so it'd be easier to decipher their age.

It's pointless.
Everyone can lie about their age when they sign up.

I was 12 when I started playing 5 years ago, Maple only allowed 13+ people to join. Of course, I had to lie about my age.
It doesn't really matter now since I'm 17 (going on 18 next week).
