Solution to ServerChecks and Patch Times. Opinion:

Why doesn't Nexon/Wizet actually create a separate server that mirrors the official server? This server could be used to test new content or problems. Like, if there's a glitch, instead of closing down the original/official server to fix it in ten hours or more, you simply close the mirrored server and do the fixes there. Once they're done, you bring down the real game and apply the fixes in a matter of minutes.

The same goes for patches. Why not just test the patch on an exact copy of the original/official server? Once you know everything's safe for release, you simply knock out the connection for all maplers, and when they go to log in again right afterwards, you allow them to download the patch which was already tested on the mirrored server.

I'm not talking about a Tespia-like server to test new content, but rather a server that's a copy of ours with the same glitches, bugs, and lack of content. It should make applying patches or Server checks much easier if it's tested on another server while still letting the players play the game without such extensive interruptions.

He isn't saying that the test server is online, he said "only for GMs to look for glitches on", then when its fixed transfer it over to the real server. So that way the real server isnt down for a long amount of time.
Cost shouldn't be an issue.

If a typical citizen can run a Pineapple Stand, then Nexon can run a server for their own workers the same way.
Compare the different amount of players between Pineapple stands and real servers.

This idea seems legit.
We should start a petition on basil.
Or at least, things of that nature to bring attention to the issue.
I have thought of this before, but I think they would encounter more problems in the practice. Some serverchecks would need the main server to go down (like the ones to fix prominent exploits), but this method could be applied in other instances (they test it in a server, then they apply the changes to the main server, making the downtime shorter, but this would make their work somewhat longer).
Precisely, they cut down on time for the main server.
As for their own time, i think it actually makes their job easier. They'll have more time to think/test things through instead of releasing content and facing a thousand other problems and thus they waste another 10 hours trying to fix it. Overall, everybody benefits one way or another.

I don't want them to be running two maple servers at once. Look at Tespia, they keep their servers their minimal compared to the GMS servers. I don't think they would want to split up their server power with an additional one. Besides, patches and server checks can easily minimize the addicted players out there and also it is not like they have a 24 hour sc anyhow.
Look at it like this:

Server A = Server B
Server A's problems = Server B's problems.

Resolve/Patch Server B. (will take hours as it usually does.)
Once the fixes and patching is completed and everything is ready for release, Apply fix/patch to Server A.

It saves a lot of time and it gives Nexon more room and time to work out the game's faults.
I have thought of this before, but I think they would encounter more problems in the practice. It's really a win-win situation for both the players and Nexon. Server B doesn't have to be costly, it could just be something private(Like Tespia, but for GMs only).
