SquishLife Level 159 Bellocan Blade Master
This is super specific but can anyone play and sing Im Yours by Jason Mraz with the original strumming pattern (topDD--whDD--topDD--whDD--topDD--whDD--topDD--whDD)?

Yes. Well I wouldn't describe like that but that's a freakin' easy song.

When I start singing, I switch patterns like instintively. I don't get how you can do it I would consider myself good and I have no problems with harder songs (it's supposed to be easy) but I can't do this one. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

@SquishLife I don't know. I don't sing...you try up and down strokes right? Now just down?

I think you should try playing and read the lyrics slowly n then start speeding up as you get more fluent.

The original is all down tho and singing makes playing it a million times harder, especially when it's not a typical ups and downs pattern (the way I end up strumming is DDU-UDU)

And to Bronxy7903: Thanks for the advice

Honestly it's muscle memory and just really getting into the rhythm of things once you put it together. Takes practise definitely. With such an easy song though, you should be able to get it. Only gets trickier when you're doing arpeggios and the likes while singing. Still, good luck to getting it down. Singing while being able to play nicely is a great skill to have.

Also, try practicing both separately until you can do both without thinking. I have a similar problem on piano when my right and left hand have to play clashing rhythms.

start off by humming it
then when you're comfortable with singing a melody not identical to the rhythms and patterns your strumming hand is making slowly add lyrics

then milk flour and egg
and you got yourself a mrazpancake
