Continuing what @4thjobseries1 said, put Combat Step on an easy-to-reach key (I have mine on Shift, right next to my attack key Ctrl). I find I barely need to use left-right keys at all when I'm in a combat situation.

It'll be easier to hold your ground after you have Freeze Standing, but for now, just practice using distinct elegant keystrokes. Don't mash your keyboard unnecessarily. Attack, Attack, Attack, Down-Attack. No need to press Left or Right.

Are you using a Controller? If so, go into your controller settings and change the analog stick from an 8-way stick to a 4-way stick, and maybe recalibrate the sensor.
