Basil, where did all the manners go?

Or am I just being nostalgic, and Maplers were never as polite as I remember them? Wall-o-text blog incoming.

I recently came back to Maple after a very long break. I'm sort of infamous for these breaks, playing on and off since Windia was a new world. But this time I came back with a vengeance! Two of my friends decided to give Maple a whirl. One made a whole new character, so I decided to as well (actually the character wasn't new, but was only level 10). Today, my friend and I had gotten tiresome of CDs at Kerning Square, so I suggested we tried scarecrows. We were off on another grand adventure seeking levels and fortune.

I show him the way to the scarecrows in the chimney map, but the channel we were on was occupied. Being considerate, we change channels without even a moment's hesitation. The next one looks clear... But no, there was actually someone on the far side that we couldn't see at first. Alas, we switch again. One of us went in reverse channel order while the other proceeded as normal to try to find a clear channel as quickly as possible. Aha! Channel 16 was totally clear! Jackpot. No one was even close, not out in the next map, and not inside the map either. I told my friend, and we proceeded to kill scarecrows like there was no tomorrow.

In walks a Mihile. It's understandable, being such an efficient spot to train around those levels. He doesn't leave when he sees it's (clearly) occupied by not just one, but two people already. I politely ask, quote, "Mate could you please cc?" He doesn't respond, and doesn't stop slaying things. I repeat with a slightly more stern "please cc," but still to no avail. After a third time asking and trying to split the map three ways - which even if we could achieve, he was clearly unwilling to cooperate - I tell my friend to hang on. I didn't want it to come to this, but I switch to my main character, this level 144 bowman, and make haste to the map we were on.

When I arrive, I ask one more time as my bomwan: "Mate please cc" Unsurprisingly, nothing happens. So, not proud of myself, I begin killing as many things as I possibly can with arrow rain and inferno shot. Standing near the middle of the map, it wasn't difficult to keep the entire monster population killed and deprive him of experience. He laughs as he, in broken English, asks "lol u cannoneer?"

"I asked you to cc," I respond. He disappears and I thought that, although through regrettable means, I had taken back the channel for my friend and I. But behold, only mere minutes later, a level 179 Mercedes enters and proceeds to decimate everything, as I had previously done. Bewildered by this person's complete lack of manners, all I had to say was, "Wow mate, are you serious?"

"ccplz" he says to mock me.

Where oh where, Basil, have the manners and etiquette gone? Or am I simply too optimistic, and there is no such thing as Maple etiquette anymore?

Same thing happend to someone yesterday in a jester's map
He was peacefully training with his DB, then another DB cames in and start killing, the guy says "cc please", then the other dude responds with "lol rude", then he d/c
After a minute or so a lvl 200 evan and a 190 shadower came in the map killing everything, the poor dude have no chance, i whisp him to follow me to Toy room, when we arrive there those dudes came too, i helped that guy with his map, after 30 mins of insulting each other they decide to leave and defame me.

TLDR:The maple community has changed alot because people want to prove being superior in damage/levels to each other

Where did manners go? The thing is, it didn't "go" at all. It got stuck in the previous generation, and never made it through this one.

Lots of people are idiots now these days. I'm from 2008 and I still feel that a lot of maplers are stupid and rude. It's either you just ignore the stupid people, or if they cross the line with you. Just bring in an evan or lumi to take care of them for good.

I feel almost the same way as you. People are just too disrespectful, even when you treat them with utmost respect. It's probably because of the cliche saying that people say whatever they want because they feel that they're safe through a computer screen. The best way to get through it is to just ignore it, there are some nice people in Maplestory.
This is an interesting thought and could very well be a majour factor.

However, it wouldn't explain something like the other day when I tried to use the free smegas from the Tot's Know-How quest to recruit for my guild, and some person I've never met before spam-whispered me "NOOOO-(ad infinitum)-OOOB" over and over to the point where I literally could not read anything else in my chat box because he was spamming it as fast as people do in the free market.
I've gotten fed up with little kids like that. And they're EVERYWHERE. I don't know why I've stuck to this game as long as I have honestly.
Maybe it was because there were lots of PQs and training spots weren't as overpopulated..? I dunno.
Sorry but was just too long to read plus my ADD took over. I do know what you mean though, lately as far as jerks go have been from ABs and kaisers. I started out my ab and was training at tauros or something and this guy came in and kept ksing me after i asked him nicely like 6 times. Then an AB hacker took over my LHC party and was insanely rude for literally no reason, then proceeded to use "swag" and then I just lost all my respect for the community. On a postive note the dexless sins are much nicer than they used to be lol.

Yup, I honestly related to this. There are way too many people going around thinking they're special, when in reality, they're just a bunch of selfish pricks. But what can we do; horrible people will probably never realize what jerks they were when they were younger~

I write both creatively and constructively.
Yeah, but your ranting about something nobody cares about.
People cared enough to both read, and reply. I just enjoy writing for the sake of writing; the first line clearly warns that this was going to be a wall-o-text blog.

There have always been inconsiderate people like that from the very beginning. It has gotten worse though, especially with all of the new classes that can tear through maps. If you want to avoid those types of situations altogether it may be prudent to find less popular maps to train on instead. You'll get less exp sure, but you can train without any rude interruptions that way.

Usually though, if you just silently kill things in the ksers face as if it's not bothering you, they leave you alone (I say usually because not all ksers are doing it specifically to mess with people). Otherwise you just have to deal with them as best as you can.

.... Omg. I so understand how you feel. That's why I was always afraid to bring out other characters. They could never exceed the levels of which the kser's main actually are. I know that feel...oh So much. I cc too. I don't take a Map if its occupied. But no, when its ME who finds an open map, people are always rude and don't cc... It's not fair... =_=
