DotA Ii discussion thread

DotA II, what is it? A history.

DotA II (no longer an abbreviation due to copyright issues) is a 10 player game where opposing teams battle it out to take down the other's 'throne'. The game has origins from the Starcraft map Aeon of Strife, and was developed into a Warcraft III mod by mapmaker Eul. It was quite popular as a custom game alongside many others at the time. Like many customs it had many publishers at the time each with their own version, one of the most popular versions was by Guinsoo called DotA - Allstars but it was heavily plagued with balance issues.

A mysterious figure called Icefrog decided to publish his own version of Allstars which the community found to be far more balanced and fun to play and eventually Guinsoo removed himself from the community playing World of Warcraft for many years instead, he eventually also made LoL. Under Icefrog, the game become the behemoth that it is today.

DotA II is a stand-alone version of the game which features many bonuses that they could not add in the original DotA, match-making, skins, etc.

What makes DotA different from LoL?

I can't make this too subjective - but objectively speaking. DotA has a far steeper learning curve and skill cap and therefore very punishing to new players.

TL DotA II players

If anyone plays and would like their name to be added to list - just post steam ID.

dota players still belittle LoL and personally idc. 'objectively speaking' they have the same objective. pick a champ/hero, push lanes, get items, kill ppl, destroy enemy throne/castle/nexus/base

LEGENDairy

There's very little point in advertising DotA 2 to the masses of Basil...most of them are way too deep in LoL to ever want to play this. (It's been tried by many Basilers over the years)

This goes for any other Dota style game, such as HoN.
