Do you guys find yourself surrounded by people who would spit at this game?

I'm enjoying the game, I'm training a Hayato and gathering reward points to cube/scroll my BaM's items which did bring me some good potential stats. Doesn't really take too much of my daily time. My only peeve is with maple's typical grindfest and my shrinking patience, which explains why I don't spend 2hrs+ grinding for nodestones, unless I watch a movie. Events take a lot of time, but I've learned to put this game in a lower priority than most other activities. Like if my mom needs help with something I just afk even if I'm going to die at a CHT run on 4x or something. That's probably why I lost my mastercraftsman in alchemy, I just felt like doing something else.

I spend $$ on this game occasionally when it's convenient for me, usually if the RNG is in my favor like the re:zero surprise box. I pretty much like nearly everything in that box, and it's out of 50 instead of 100 (with the addition of the re:zero items which will only increase in price). Or if there's an item that I want, I just wait months for a sale on it. Half the time I'm too lazy to even buy though.

Not my favorite game, but a nice game to unwind in. However, I don't really tell anyone I still play this game (they think I quit back at Tempest, and never returned). I'm pretty sure Maple is past it's prime, but I see so much hate on this game literally everywhere.

I don't know, I feel like it's wrong to not completely hate this game. Like I'm supposed to be miserable but keep playing. Or I'm supposed to avoid this game like the plague. Maybe I don't take the game seriously enough to buy NX for massive marvel runs. Maybe I'm lucky and didn't get mistreated by Nexon's screwups yet (I say yet because apparently I'm supposed to get screwed).

I don't know man I just feel like I'm supposed to hate this game like the rest of you guys(?)

Don't hate the game, hate the fat, lazy employees of the company. nexon just don't gives a frig anymore, dood.
There's still a lot of botters! 2X still lags like ass! I DC all the time because the game thinks I'm doing some fast attax hax! Areas keep getting locked off from access because they're still being revamped for years to come! Dood!
It's all nexon's fault. They ruin so many things, dood.
I wouldn't care what people say, I'd still tell them I play the game. I will trash talk about nexon, though. Man, what a bunch of jokers.

+2 Alongside what @duzz has said, I will say as someone who doesn't really play anymore and who used to play in the "good old days" as they would say, I do think that those concerns these people address can be legitimate without question, but perhaps unfair to the current state of the game. In other words, I am not one of those people.

I made a post here but maybe people don't understand that message I was trying to send and so I will repeat it: MapleStory has always had issues. It was always a grindfest. Hacking and botting were always problems. P2W happened when things like 2x EXP could be bought for NX many years ago, although there are more options today that further exacerbate this P2W aspect. It has always been glitchy and laggy. You're dealing with all kinds of constant annoyances. These problems are just only noticeable because of the current age of the game (with more time, people will tend to notice more things), the large amount of content that has been released over time which ensures that something will always be broken no matter what, the size which also ensures that Nexon cannot control nor keep up with everything, etc. There are design flaws in the game like power creep which have been there since day 1. Many of @deeemon 's complaints still go way back to the early days of when the game was run by Wizet if you manage to go back that far and look carefully.

There are definitely things to improve in the game, and sometimes it is worth being vocal about it (to Nexon) in order to guide or influence the game in a better direction, but don't let that discourage you from the positives. There are things about the old MS that I like and wished were still here, but there are also things about the new MS I like that I wished were in old MS. Alas, nothing is that perfect. My suggestion, if you still enjoy the game in spite of all its flaws, is to not let those complaints stop you from enjoying the game nor should it stop you from hanging out with others who also enjoy the game as you do.

So a lot of the problem can be attributed to personal reactions to the people who may point out issues in the game rather than because there is something wrong with people talking about them.

In that case, maybe you should do some introspection and meditation. I'm afraid harboring such emotions without understanding them may lead to troubling things.

How would you feel if the game suddenly closed or there was no one there?

+1 Just because someone says something is bad, it doesn't stop you from enjoying it. Heck, it's your own life, just do whatever you want with it.

@animus:
Well, it's kind of annoying to be surrounded by tons of negativity on supposed fan sites for the game in question.
It would be like going to a fan club for Stephen King and a majority of the "fans" did nothing but talk about how much Stephen King sucks and is "dead." Sure, there's nothing inherently wrong with having those opinions, but is it really that fun to spend time around a bunch of overly negative whiners who don't even read the books anymore, but do nothing but talk about how much they suck?

Whenever I go to a maplestory fan site and ask a legitimate question about the game, I can reasonably expect one of the first few replies to be something like "lol, why are you still bothering with this dead af game? Best thing I ever did was quit, lmao"
...Then why are you still here?

@littletlk: True. But then again, we can't really control what they want to say at the same time, isn't it? I meant, internet has always been like this anyway, maybe with the exceptions when bbs was still a thing but that's like so old. It's just best for us to ignore them unless their complains come with constructive insight that's worth some discussion as long as it's not some troll response like what you've given as example.
