Inform me about Old MS

I'm someone who joined late 2007, so I never experienced Beta really.

So people who did join in the early days, what was MS like?

The old cursor. My definite favorite.

Oh, and my gosh, 50mil Ilbis. That was just amazing. Well, if you had them.

Also, it took about a year for me to get to level 45 that time. I've since started over, and without playing much level 45 took me a few months.

AND THE PAGES AND PAGES OF TRACKS I HAD FOR LPQ. I would go on MapleStory everyday to check them, and learn to use MouseKeys as an fake AC and get in.

I remember in Beta, jump hackers were at Shane of Ellinia's jump quest farming BC ores.
You made shoes, upgraded your claw at the NPCS.
Balrog was the hardest boss.
Victoria island was way bigger.
No "Mano" or other "town bosses".
No CS/"Henehoes".
No MTS.
Towards the end of Beta, people rioted at the Boat to Orbis station.
Botting was pretty popular.
Kerning PQ was THE PLACE TO BE.
Perion Ch1 = "FM"
When Scania opened, I remembered everyone around me had "one word/unique/rare" IGNS. My first friend in Scania was "Pastel" =o
Fast forward all this... Zombies were the best place to train before 3rd job came out. Now they're a "4th job" ground post-BB.
fm was there but no one knew why? had about 6 rooms in it and people actually thought you get free stuff there.
There were 8 rooms, and each room had a portal to the previous room and the next room in it. And the portals weren't like the portals you see now, they were hollowed out tree stumps.

Oh, another thing! NO FREAKING MAPLE TV THERE WAS NONE! THERE NEVER USED TO BE A MAPLE TV, EVEN IN THE FM.

I remember looong long ago, on my old fire mage who was my first character. Training at Wolf Territory V in the late 60s after being at Grupins for the longest time, and I finally hit level 70. It felt so good.

That is too true.

When there was no MapleTv crap.
The PQ rooms were packed to the brim and it was really hard to inv people to parties, and the PQ's were actually good =/

If you were level 50 then you were pro. There was a guy around who would AFK all the time called "DefameMe." His negative fame was pretty impressive.

And contrary to popular belief, thieves were there for Beta - I played one myself and basically remade when GMS was officially released.

Lol! I just remembered how i hit 50 back then and everyone was like "wow"!

It was fun! Or how tauromacis would give you these godlike items that would sell for godlike mesos, 50 m (?).. yeah..

anways, subtract NX to the game i think think you've got a lot of the beta ms... But you only had like victoria island

i joined right after the beta and my friend told me about it. It was owned by Wizet which had no intentions of having "nx cash" until nexon bought the company. There was a cash shop button but it would say "Cash shop opening soon!". FM's were empty and i always wondered what the heck it was. People had messed up stats xD like it was normal for every player to mess up their AP such as putting int for thieves or luk for bowman. No one cared about damage at the beginning because everyone just had alot of fun. level 50+ was freakin GODLY. People saved up so much money when they were level 10 or less to go through the V.I.P cab and then they would get stuck and die from the monsters trying to get back to hene and what not.

then in like '07 or so i dont remember ALOT of people start making up BS stuff about their damage like "wow ur so noob, my sin is only lvl 50 and it does 10k dmg u suck bro". even though at the time they didnt have potential and 50% scrolls so it was practically impossible to come close to that damage at that level.

I played in '05 right after beta ended (no MoB T_T). I remember when you had to roll a die for your starting stats! I spent hrs trying to get 4str/4int for my hermit and eventually gave up.

I remember it taking hrs to become a theif b/c you couldn't put any pts in Str as a beginner.
I remember LPQ being good exp and profit (no glasses).
I remember before Ludi came out.
I remember briefly having the best scrolled scarab in Scania (no MTS) b/c my friend used my character to scroll it (no scrolling skill). The claw was sold to Viethue , another dead legend.
I remember so much more...

It was amazingly hard to lvl and 50 was pro and beyond that was OMFGWTFBBQ

There was only Maple Island.
In Maple Island you had to wear slim Green Apple Suits.
No Dual Blades, No Evans, No Pirates, No Cygnus Knights, No Resistance.
It was Early. You got the name you wanted. So no xXxMapIexXx names.
There was a huge war over who was going to get to level 200 first. Fangblade or Tiger.
Tiger disappear off the map and Fangblade won.
Rumor says Tiger got a Girlfriend. Others say he got bored. Also others said he quit because of College work.

The End.

There was another rumor saying that he got banned for hacking. People said that he got to like 130 or so by hacking but got to 180 legitimately. idk though.

So many nice people, actually trading items they need, and selling scrolls from quest, actually doing quest, not socializing.
There were legends, Tiger, Suuushi, Stephen, NinjaGaru, Shynobi, and more...dead.
Golems used to be in the place on the way to the dungeon, before Big bang.
No big bang of course.

He asked about the things before 2007, not Big Bang.
Nearly everything you said wasn't from before 07...
And the cursor was a jewel, not a compass.

@FlaminQuincy: Ore rushing wasn't that long ago...it was maybe 1 1/2 years ago.
Also, there was more than one "hacker age". I can tell you right now that the first era didn't include people leveling to 120+ though...

Sometime after ludi was released, SoupMonster and a few of his buddies were hanging around town. I joined in and managed to get a group photo...however, that computer in which the photo is saved is no longer functional

@abv: Back in KPQ, i got so angry at people with AC that I trained myself for a few days to click extremely fast. Eventually, I got so good at it that i was accused of having AC many, many times. Even beat a bunch of ACers...
Ahh...those were simpler times...

back when CS came out they had everythign on a trial run for super cheap. it was awesome!

There was no help on skill builds so i put int into my warrior cuz i didnt want him to be dumb. 3rd job wasnt even out yet and it was cool to see the high levels at tauromacis. then later we had to fight for z4 maps.
SOOOOOOO many KS wars at z4. it was crazy.

Also, if you didnt have track, you probably wouldnt get into PQ

leaders were only good if they had AC.

I also remember training at those purple kitties, cuz there was a chance you might get a throwing star haha.

perion was better than the FM, and everybody advertised there. Pig beach and land of the wild boar was where you trained.

People got mad when you looted all of their coins in ant tunnel 1, i definitely did that a couple times and made like 15k!

I miss it.

Anyone remember the hackers in Ant Tunnel 1 who vacuumed them up to the very top right corner where there was this long as platform? In fact it was all the ant tunnels.

Back then, if you didn't want your thief to be stupid...you had to get INT. also, i had no idea how to change color of my lvl 15 armor from red to blue >.>

Yes, yes...it was a much simpler time...you can say that it was the "colonial" times of maplestory, with all the hardship and work needed to put into to succeed, while maplestory now might be considered "modern" because of it's greater simplicity and ease.
Omfg i forgot about that! It was fun xD Sucked when you screwed up though
So many times I rolled perfect stats and clicked one extra time. Then I'd rage and freak out on my computer, after trying for like 30 minutes to get it perfect.

Edit: Also, usernames could have spaces in them. I still have an account with a space in the username which is completely functional. Note: not character name, username.
Trying to roll a perfect stat on the dice.
OMG YES THIS!

Originally as a begginer, you had to continuously click a dice and roll it to try to get ideal stats. Now, the stats are automatically perfect and suit you until you advance, but beforehand getting to level 10 as a Rogue with 4 str and 4 int (and subsequently only luk and dex) was a FUGGING NIGHTMARE on maple island, which mind you, has also changed HEAPS. Remember the map to the left of Amherst? that thing was HUGE! and remember Tomato Field? WOWOWOWOW I"M REMEMBERING BACK SO FAR.

I joined when I was like, 13 years old in v 0.07 in very VERY late 2005 like december I think.

The only party quest was Kerning PQ. Mages used to sit away bashing their swords and common weapons on snails as no-one could fund themselves. Wooden Tops were considered the PROEST stars of the freaking day. People used Perion as an FM with the omok and match set stores with messages like (S> AVG GOLDEN MOLE AFK LEAVE PRICES NO GAME) and "NO GAME" was written in like, almost everyone as people went there just to play. Omok sets only required 15 pieces to make. People actually used Viscious to make arrows and gloves, J.M. from tha streetz to make claws, and there were always people in Ant Tunnel. Orbis wasn't released; it was literally just Victoria Island and Florina Beach. And Florina didn't have that gigantic king clang boss either.

Wraiths dropped red whips and black bandanas which were highly sought after. In fact, red, blue, and black bandanas were the only ones that existed, and they were all highly sought after.

If anyone from Broa remembers STiBLoFe, SoupMonster, Rokui, Otay or any others, then they are truly an oldschool player.

Edit: Also, there was no Nexon. It was only Wizet, but Nexon bought them out, or maybe they owned them from the start but Wizet was just maintaining it. Never really was sure about the whole Nexon takeover thing.

As well as that, there was no NX and when NX did come out, it was PROMISED that it would not give any preference to people who purchase it, ever, in the game. It was only for cosmetics.

...and look at how that turned out.

Gameplay was actually the focal point of the game as opposed to now where its all about the cash shop.

Old MS wasn't bad. I barely saw any hackers during Wizet's age, with the exception of fly hackers that did no damage, who were just screwing around.

there was a free market. it was just a bunch of empty shop rooms with this tree that teleported you to other free market maps. it was only located in henseys but people used perion ch 1 as a "free market." And game card rooms were used as some kind of makeshift shops where people enter and say how much, make a deal, exit shop then /trade.
