Bodybuilding and Fitness General

I noticed over the last couple months, fitness has been a hot topic on Basil. However, a lot of the questions don't really deserve their own thread (i.e. could be answered by Google) so I figured a general fitness thread would be sufficient.

I'll start: I've been doing a split for just over a year and I haven't been making as much progress (both strength and size wise) as I'd like. Today, I tried the Monday 5x5 Madcow routine. It felt absolutely pointless. I was exhausted after the squats, and my bench was 15lbs lighter than it normally was. My barbell row wasn't bad, but I don't even feel like I worked out. Zero pump. I also added calf raises and incline dumbbell presses.

Does anyone have any natty intermediate routines? I'm not a fan of clean and jerks, or anything that includes jerky movements because I have a bad shoulder. Also, I appreciate if you could state your stats, add a pic, etc just so I know who I'm taking advice from.

@easyrolling:

You can't go into a 5x5 Madcow routine full bolt, if you read it carefully, there are usually 3-4 weeks of easing into it with less than current max weights, building up to your max at about week 4 then going heavier in subsequent weeks.

Use a calculator to get your weekly goals: http://www.scribd.com/doc/8000198/Bill-StarrMadcow-5x5-Logbook-Calculator

Sarcasm is considered SP'ing m8. I'm currently bench pressing 240 4x4 and dead lifting at 405lbs. Squats is something I really have to work on as I'm only doing 290lbs.
But i'm currently on hiatus due to a broken knuckle from a scuffle the other night.

Other than that, it's been great & i'm waiting on some supplements to be shipped pretty quick here.

@easyrolling Some lateral raises with light weights like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IDqX1eMFmA might help with your shoulder mobility.

I'd give you advice, but I don't think you care about how to improve the classic Olympic lifts. I can help you out with your squats though.
Broke my form doing jerks and put weird pressure on my left shoulder on the down movement. When I exploded up, I felt a really weird sensation. It hurt for a couple days after that, so I took a week off. It doesn't hurt or anything, but I find it's tighter than right one. I can still bench etc. without any pain, but the flexibility just isn't there. I'm scared of hurting it again.

My squats are fine. can do 225lbs for 5 reps with 3/4 ROM at 6 feet tall.

@GunPowder: Thanks, I'll check er out

I'm not going to post a picture of myself, but I've decided to ditch my old full body workout routine for a new program two months ago. It's called Growth Stimulus Training (GST). I've got to say, I really enjoy how simple and easy the set up is.
Although, only two months passed since I started the program, I've seen some nice visual improvements, and am very pleased.

Check it out if you want to: GST

Is there really a need for a fitness section? There are millions of forums for fitness.

Then you'd have to add a sports section, a current events section, a League of Legends section, etc.

I think it's better to just have Chat and make threads about whatever.
