High school seniors that are going to college

Do you guys all know what you're majoring in? If you are not going undecided/undeclared, how sure are you on your career path? I was accepted into my first choice college as a Pre-pharmacy track student. However, upon hearing many individuals say that Pharmacy majors have a hard time getting a job discouraged me. Does anyone know whether or not this is true about the pharmacy career in general? Is it really hard to find a job? Of course, this does not necessarily have to apply to high school seniors.

Anyone can feel free to answer about their career path.

I'm going to major in Biology (possibly biochem) and minor in physics
I'm considering two possible job fields - medical or research jobs.
Most likely medical as of now, but I think I'll teach and research in the future after I settle down my practice

Double majoring in electrical engineering and mathematics. Not sure yet what I'll be doing with them.

I think it's sad when people choose majors for monetary reasons.

I'm a semi-regular partier, so I'm pretty pumped. Also, I know when to say no (ie tests the next day). But yeah, I went there once, and it was huge... Really nice though. Just a bit overwhelming. And I'm just excited for uni period right now. Either things work out with the girl I'm taking to prom, or I wheel hard next year. Hopefully Western girls are sweet.

@cwalkpikachu: No it's not monetary at all. I've been interested in chemistry since i was introduced to it in 10th grade. I fell in love with chemistry and the teacher was amazing. I don't mind looking at medicine at all. xD
I was going to pursue pharmacy as well. By the looks of it, it seems like the demand for this major has rose significantly than it has in the past and makes me kind of worried about job opportunities for this field due to high demands for it. But i'm aiming towards a major in the chemistry field (possibly Biochem. or medicinal chemistry) and then Pre-pharmacy or Pre-med (haven't decided yet). From what i've heard, the pharmacy field is pretty big for the most part and landing a job at a local hospital, target, walmart, CVS, Costco, won't be difficult at all. Though i'm getting negative vibes since so many people are going for this path. =/
It really is a competitive field. However, from the looks of it- I doubt not everyone will make it as the courses are rigorous (from what I've heard). Now that I think about it, the job opportunities for pharmacists are vast, so I doubt there's much negative vibe. I mean... if your sole interest in the path is monetary, then I'd suggest you reconsider because you'll basically be spending your life counting medicine and organizing them, etc. However, I'm still planning on pursuing it.

I wanted to go to nursing (or anything to help people) but so does like thousands of other students, and most of them have like A's while my marks are only at around 65 (C?), so I'm probably just going towards something else since I already got rejected to all the university's/colleges I applied to trying to major in nursing
so atm I really don't know what to do yet

i'm starting university this september and i've applied to study english literature and french. the system is a little different in the uk

as regards where i'll be afterwards, i have no idea. i've planned a year in france for the third year of my degree where i'll be undertaking a teaching assistantship but i'm pretty sure i don't want to/won't be able to become a full-time teacher so maybe i'll just spend some more time in france, i dunno
I don't quite remember my overall math grade, but I can tell you what my math grade was for each year in H.S.

Grade 9 - 82%
Grade 10 - 71%
Grade 11 - 60% (somewhere around there)
Grade 12 - 89%

Where I live (Canada), high school marks are generated as percentages instead of GPA
Oh wow. I'm assuming you don't need to take the SATs Thanks for the info though!
@cwalkpikachu Well in my college, lots of people are majoring in Accounting. More than 50% of the students in my college are majoring in it, so I don't know what to say

@Xgo321 Well, sometimes it can get very difficult. For example, if you're doing a question and in the middle of it, you do something wrong, you pretty much have to re-do the whole question from start. And that can get frustrating. This doesn't happen ALL the time though, just sometimes. I guess it's my fault because I don't practice Accounting questions during my free time, so I guess I'm not even trying o.o
Er... This might be a personal question, but what were your Math grades throughout H.S. and did you take any Math AP classes?

I'm a sophomore in college and still deciding between two majors.......
Computer Science or Psychology...
I wanted to do computer science at first but there are a lot of math classes that I have to take for it and I'm just really not good at math..
So I wanted to do psychology since I'm interested in it but the problem is there's really no good salary jobs for Psych..
So hard to decide which I want to do!

Was going to go into biomedical engineering, but then figured that those who majored in it don't get jobs so easily.
So I switched to electrical and computer engineering -> major with highest yield in jobs/pay.

@AppleSnacks: Well said. Where are all the good ol' doctos that actually became one to care for people? o.o

@UrbanTrash: Exactly what I was trying to say in my previous post, but more complicated . Regardless, I'm still going to go for Pharmacy, as I really have no other desire except business. But that's not reliable imo.

@BabysAreFood: I recommend you watch the drama "The Hippocratic Crush." It's about neurosurgeons. It's very inspirational and has great life lessons.

I remember your major is a high end salary job. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been planning on majoring in Psychology since Junior year, yet I start to focusing on specific field after a year in college.
However, I can't see myself in the future because it's too far away & things happen.

I think one of the major issues affecting the Pharmaceutical industry right now is essentially basic supply and demand. I mean, from 2000 to 2010, the number of Pharmacy schools rose by 50% to 120. Pretty soon, there will be more graduates and than jobs available, even taking into account all the individuals that will retire in the coming years. Because of this, and I may be wrong, the glamour of the industry in terms of job security and wages will decline as more and more people pour into the profession. It is still possible to get a job, but from what I've heard, don't expect it to be in a huge city like Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York or even in popular suburban areas. In job markets like those you'll be competing against a large amount of Pharmacists with 30+ years experience, however, Pharmacists are lacking in rural areas.... so like Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota........places everyone wants to live.
@UrbanTrash: Thanks for the link. I'll look into it, and yeah, I'm pretty worried about the pharmacy area. However, I really do want to go further into that field.

I know what you mean. A majority of my class yells "doctor" as their career choice with money as the intended goal. I sincerely have an interest in medicine and the medical field in general as I have had interns the past two years at different hospitals.
Totally, nothing makes me more nervous than a doctor that cares about a patient's wallet, more than the patient themselves.

I'm a first year majoring in clinical nutrition but as of yet I still haven't taken any nutrition classes. In fact, I don't think I take any intro courses to nutrition/food science (though I probably will for GE). Hating the Chemistry right now, and it's only the regular series. Not looking forward to OChem :v

I am taking a class in winemaking though, so close enough for now.

I want to major in Computer Science, or computer hardware design, engineer. Like I want to make the parts of the computer. Im not good at math at all so i doubt I will make it in Computer Science.

I'm a college sophomore at private state music program, but I'm transferring to a music school in Boston (either Berklee College of Music or the New England Conservatory of Music) in the fall. I plan on finishing up a jazz performance degree (B.M.), and then I'm going to grad school for a second performance degree, and I'll finish up with a Ph.D in music theory or jazz composition (if I can find a program for that).
I don't see how there are less jobs for pharmacists... I think we're in need of them.
More and more people want to become pharmacists at the same time the available jobs are not enough. For instance, it's a fact that the world's population is growing. We'll use small numbers as an example.

If the generation of pharmacists before us had about 500, once they retire, there will be 500 available spots. However, the next generation, without a doubt, will have more than 500 people wanting to become pharmacists. So there isn't enough spots to fill.
I'm in college right now and majoring in Accounting. Probably the worst decision I ever made in my life o.o
Woah.. That's kind of surprising since I want to major in Accounting and I have a pretty large interest. Doesn't seem too bad. Why does it seem bad? I hear it's boring and all, but I don't think it is at all.

Meh I hope I get accepted into a med school if I even do...

I hear hospitals are starting to lay off Pharmacists and implementing robots to do the job. Slowly overtime, pharmacists will be little use. (Well that's what I had been told.)

Haha, I just made a thread with this topic, locked now, but I should've checked before i posted...
Anyways I'm torn between majoring in Microbiology and becoming a research scientist specializing in vaccine engineering, Medicinal Chemistry to become a pharmacist, or double majoring in marketing and journalism with an emphasis on public relations and working at an advertising agency as an account manager. I can't make up my mind, on one hand I love biology and chemistry, but one the other hand I really want to work in a creative industry so it's kind of a tough choice

If you're worried about job prospects for pharmacist try this website
Job Prospects
Probably the most important advice I can give is study hard in college to earn great grades and network with professors. If you develop a really close relationship with a professor, you could possibly place him/her as a reference when you're applying for jobs.
