Anybody watched Inception?

I personally didn't get a chance to watch it in theaters, but I just watched it a few minutes ago and I can positively say that it was one of the most thought provoking movies I have seen of late. Do you guys know any movies similar to it?

Also Tron Legacy is a really really really kickass movie, second half of it sorta started giving me Star War vibes though.

Thats why Cobb and Mal were there for 50 years - they didn't realize they were in limbo. Until Cobb eventually woke up and got them out of there.

It was raining in Yusuf's dream because before they slept and entered the dream, he drank a lot of champagne and needed to pee, but wasn't able to. Yusuf was the dreamer in the earliest dream, and his need to urinate manifested in the dream as rain.

In my opinion, the kicks were very interesting. It showed how time moved faster in the dreams. I was very thrilling how Cobb, Adriane and Eames were able to complete the Fischer mission by the time it took for Yusuf's van to hit the water (which is probably about 10 seconds).

Takes 10 seconds for Yusuf's van to hit the water > 10 minutes for Arthur to stage his kick > 1 hour for the rest of the gang to finish the Fischer mission.
So when Cobb went into limbo to retrieve them, how come he still knew the trick to escaping? Couldn't he just tell everyone "hey, if you go into limbo just kill yourself?"

Yes, I realize everything you said about Yusef's dream thing. That's why I said that comment was good. There were not enough comments like that. I'd liked to have seen dreamscapes revolving around each person's personality, since dreams are the metaphorical window into the soul. You probably could try to draw connections, but it's definitely something the film could have expanded on much, much more. I had very high hopes for "Inception" because it actually followed the basic concept of an animation I had been working on, "Internalism," about being able to jump into other people's minds and see how they worked. But "Inception" wasn't about that kind of cognition at all, it was just an action heist film.

Yes, kicks were interesting. Film-wise, they were interesting. I realize that a film needs action for people to watch it, so the kicks filled the action. But they seriously could have spent less time showing the actors falling in the van to stuff in better psychoanalytical development.

That movie was just so unbelievable and good that I had to go home and spin a top to make sure what I saw was that good and existed.

Seriously.

I would like to say that Affion pretty much demolished this thread with his greatness. Seriously, Shutter Island is the best movie I have ever seen by far. Inception was good, but it just can't compare in all honesty.
Plot holes: To get out of limbo, you die. So why was everyone scared to go to limbo, if they could leave just by dying?

Weak devices: Synchronized kicks. It looked dramatic, it added tension, it made the movie exciting. But instead of spending ten minutes showing a dude floating around with an elevator you could have had more...

Strong devices: Psychoanalytic theory. Their little machine is the holy grail of all psychology, philosophy, semantics, cognition, basically anything having to do with humans. They could have really emphasized that more. One quote from the movie in the first world when it was raining went like "Did he forget to take a piss?" That was good. There was not enough of that.
I didn't like Inception. Too many plot holes and too much emphasis on weak devices instead of more powerful ones.

Myeh. Didn't think much of it. It was a movie. The guy ends back up back in reality in the end. And they live happily ever after. And that's that.

You people are getting the ending of Inception all wrong. The ending is NOT about whether Cobb was still dreaming or not.
The ending's point is to show how Cobb has changed.

In the beginning of the movie, Cobb was obsessed with reality and would never leave his totem until he could confirm he was not dreaming. He would literally blow his brains out if his totem didn't stop spinning.

At the end, Cobb didn't even care about whether he was dreaming or not, anymore. He just walked away from his totem without confirming whether it stopped spinning or not, and went to his kids. He got over his fears.

You can all have a debate to whether he was still dreaming or not. But to Cobb, he doesn't care about that anymore, he's just happy to be back home with his kids.

Listen to those songs, they are just some of what made Tron epic. Imagine hearing that in IMAX while watching high level special effects.
Nawww. I watched the movie partly because of Daft Punk's music. This one is one of the best.

@tekkenman11: Mal's dead. Dead people have no knowledge of their past lives. Mal doesn't have that totem. She's dead. Dead people don't need totems. She's dead.
So Tron was good?

It looked too sci-fi in the trailers
It. was. awesome.
Then again, I loved the sci fi and colors and Olivia Wilde.
I think his kids are his totem. The top was Mal's, and he probably didn't make his own wedding ring.
I'm pretty sure their grandparents have picked them up...

And did you notice how, at the end, Dom didn't have his ring on? He never has his ring on outside of the dream world, making me think it was real life.
Yeah Equilibrium and Blade Runner are usually movies that fit the same genre as Inception, and The Matrix.

Dark City is another movie that is like the others.
But the Matrix was a lot less on the concept on virtual reality and more on kickass fighting.
Well, the last two films of the trilogy anyway.
What is Shutter Island about? Is it as mind blowing as Inception? :o
The ending is, for sure.

@tekkenman11 Ill be sure to look for that film in the near future.

@heyalex it was shown in one of the flashbacks that she and Cob grew old together, and then they left Limbo or something. Mal later commited suicide thinking reality wasn't actually reality and was actually another dream world. The Mal we see in Cob's dreams are due to his subconscious guilt, she is but a shadow that Cob created to deal with his guilt.
No, the directors (Christopher Nolan, etc) ended that argument when they stated that Cobb made it out.

Also you should check out Equilibrium, The Matrix Trilogy, and Blade Runner
I've seen the Matrix Trilogy a while ago, good stuff, although it felt cheesy to me seeing them in modern view.

@above: Olivia indeed. mmmmm~
He isnt.

Easy indicator: When he is, theres a wedding ring on his hand (You can see it when he confronts Maul at the last time)
And when hes awake, there isnt a ring (When he hands his papers to the TSA officer in the airport at the end)

Also, to get out of limbo, you must die.

Thats how Cobb and Maul got out (the train), and Saito and Cobb (the gun).

They shot themselves.
