MapleStory Tempest Root Abyss Animated Epic

Root Abyss Storyline

So i just finished watching the Root Abyss Epic video released by Nexon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgxVkDuTkuo

Who is Alice and why is everyone trying to save her?
Did holding down the Enter key throughout the storyline ingame come to bite me in the butt?
@Momijii: Oh wait, so a transcedent means they control a dimension? So is Root Abyss another Dimension, or is Alice the transcendent of Maple World?
Transcendental meaning they control every aspect of their element, the black magician for example is the transcendental of light meaning (before he corrupted his magic anyway) he was an unrivaled person in terms of magic, in charge of studying and guarding the light. Alice is another example, she controls life, if she dies, the world will soon follow.
It has been noted that Darmoor/Darumoa after stealing the power of Time used that power to created a path between Maple World and Elisium. The thing is we actually don't know when he stole the power of Time in relation to the Black Mage's robbery. If The Black Mage's robbery of time was before the act of Darmoor/Darumoa, then it would be evident that Darmoor/Darumoa and Black Mage are NOT the same person. Otherwise, we can be certain that there is a possible enemy as strong as the Black Mage that we will eventually have to deal with.
Given that Magnus is a commander for the Black Mage, it wouldn't shock me if they're the same person. But at the same time, they're probably not.
That connection chart is amazing....
The fact that it even exists proves how crazy and well put together this storyline is. Hope with future nova classes they'll start to reveal the other Transcendents, rather than making things even more complicated than they already are. This Tempest Patch has revealed a lot to the storyline so let's hope they can continue that.
There's only two Transcendents not seen yet: Chronica and Iona. However, Chronica is effectively dead as her power was stole by Darmoor. So unless they're going to add more alternate dimensions, I doubt that they're going to expand from three to six to even more Transcendents.

The whole storyline of root abyss centres around Alice, the world tree (transcendence of life), who, after the fight with Black Mage, is exhausted of her powers, so she stayed at Root Abyss, centre of the island where power flows most. But Damien, the new black mage general who is also Demon Slayer's supposedly dead/missing brother (don't know whey he became evil) trapped Alice in Root Abyss by using his 4 minions as seals (Vellum, Crimson Queen, Pierre, Von Bon).

Now this is where you come in, as you are to investigate a new hole (quest from Cygnus Knights) inside the sleepywood dungeon, you fell down! In there, you discover Alice, who has been imprisoned for years, and with your sense of justice, you decide to hunt down the seals so Alice may once again roam free. (of course, the CK also ordered you to set her free)

Spoilers : After you set her free, the Cygnus Knights tells Alice that the Black Mage is revived, so it's still not safe for her to lollygagging around, so Alice, agreeing with the CK, was escorted to Ereve to receive protection from Shinsoo

Spoiling Spoilers : Damien (or maybe someone else, not sure yet), found out Alice is being kept at Ereve, so he came and killed Shinsoo. With the shocking death of Shinsoo, Cygnus finally awakens her powers (or that she tries to use Alice's power to revive Shinsoo). This is where the Cygnus Knights Revamp comes in (This, is not yet determined fact, but only current story)

And to the Freud question. Yes, the Black Mage did steal Rhinne's power (so he's indestructable), knowing this, Freud created a seal that can reverse Rhinne's power (from immortal, or more specifically, always rewind back to living, to frozen in time). Although he was able to create the seal, he couldn't activated it without the Black Mage noticing (and also Mercedes and himself is already half-dead). Then Luminous arrives and Freud tells him to activate the seals. (This comes from Luminous tutorial)
To somewhat expand on this: even the Novans don't know much about Iona. In the quest for Kaiser in which Fenelle explains the portals, she brings up Iona and mentions that no one has ever heard of him/her.

This may help some of you. It's a little outdated since it hasn't been updated to account for Alice (who is actually a physical embodiment of the World Tree, the Transcendent of Life) and Damien. But it does help with the basic gist of things.

Just am interesting thought but given the fact that Gerald Darmoor (the mortal transcendance of light in Grandis) and the black mage have similar back stories, is it possible that they could infact be the same entity? Both are mortal transcendentals, both have Magnus as a servent, and both stole the powers of time from their respective fellow transcendentals (Rhinne & Chronica). Seems a little strange if they have such similar backstories yet aren't related at all.
@oakmontowls: Oh, thanks for correcting, didn't the Black mage steal Rhinne's power? I forgot if he was successful or not, but I heard that Freud reversed it or something to seal him?

@iDivideZer0
Time = Chronica (her power was stolen by Darmoor and he used it to create the trans-dimensional portal)
almost when he stole her power the atrocity of one transcendent stealing the power of another ripped time and space and created the rift

It kind of is. If i remember correctly Nexon mentions this as an inspiration in the web developer interview.

I don't know if you know the back story, but in short Maple world has three entities called transcendences, each one controls one of the three "elements", light, life and time

In the Maple world, the following are known to be transcendences
Life = Alice
Light = Black Mage (was corrupted and turned evil, he is a mortal transcendence)
Time = Rhinne (an immortal transcendence)

Grandis/Nova also have their own transcendences, which are separate from Maple world's
Life = Darmoor/Darumoa (evil, took over Heliseum, a mortal transcendence)
Light = Iona (not much known, only mentioned in Kaiser and AB storylines)
Time = Chronica (her power was stolen by Darmoor and he used it to create the trans-dimensional portal)

Well anyways, back to the story, after the Black mage was sealed away, Alice went to Root Abyss to regenerate her power cause she had used a lot during the battle with the black mage, Root Abyss is the center of Victoria Island and there is a lot of energy that flows there.

That's kinda the backstory, the rest idk. But what we do know is that Damien, DS' presumably dead brother, became the Black mage's newest commander and has trapped Alice in Root Abyss, so everyone is trying to save her. Gotta wait till tmrw to find out the rest of the story and the details

I actually like the storyline. It's pretty interesting. Nexon paid their writers a lot to make this stuff up, might as well appreciate it

Also, about the Six Path Crossway tree: Maybe. Hard to say.
Alice is the World Tree, apparently a source of great power in the Maple World. She is the transcendence of life (which is basically on par with "god of life" ), and she was drained of energy after the fight with the Black Mage. She decides to rest in Sleepywood due to all the life energy around the place, and Damien (who now works for the Black Mage) and his four minions (the bosses of Root Abyss) have sealed her there. It is the player's job to rescue her, because Empress Cygnus is looking for her so she and her knights can become more powerful.
She was one of the Black Mage's whores, and she ran away from him. She spent 200 hundred years hiding underneath a tree.
