My favorite book. HM. Probably the HP series last year and Power of Five series this year. Genre's gotta be Fantasy/Mystery/Horror/Adventure/Romance(JUST A TAD)/Tragedy.

I also liked both of those series, but I consider them radically different. The Ender saga puts the characters in a sci-fi setting, but the main focus isn't about technology but how the characters react with their human feelings. The Halo sagas focus more on the technology aspect.
Thus, my favorites are a three-way tie between Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), Speaker of the Dead (Orson Scott Card), and Hyperion (Dan Simmons).
currently, i'm obsessed with the hunger games.
It's a three part series. The books are called "Poison Study", "Fire Study" and "Magic Study". I love fantasy books, which is what that series fits into.

and jonathan strange and mr norrell by susanna clarke
so long as it's fiction i'm usually up for a read, though realistic fiction is probably my top choice
