my thoughts exactly. i really dont want to play it end up liking it and only to have it shut down later time and money put into something that no longer exist...
and most fault is on nexons advertising. and how fast they get the games updates out.

DFO they taunted players more or less with the updates for weeks if not more.. before giving players updates/fixes ect
shuts pvp down... will being in back better... months later pvp is returning... (turns out to be somewhat glitchy still...)

and when they 1st advertised DFO everyone was on their 1000s of millions they even had to add servers due to mass amount of players
all the time they took on that made them lose players between updates and adding more servers
understanding takes time... but how far ahead the other dfo were they could gave bigger patches in the end if they kept advertising up more people would play it...
but they didnt advertise and due to lack of updates and all the take forever hype build ups player base died...

i honestly and truly feel 99% of nexons player base problems are on failure to advertise

understanding maplestory is like nexons main game their is a chance that they switch out and result will end up with maplestory shuting down
due to lack of players

my main issue here is the lack of advertising on nexons part tho
2 games i listed could of gone on longer with lil more advertising and them continuing to tv advertise them

thats my main issue lack of tv advertisements odds of running into a maple ad on computer now is rare thanks to thos choice ad stuff
(i really hate thos advertisements not only that there clearly looking at everything you look up search and what not, right now their prolly reading the post im making)

I play Maplestory because it isn't 3D. And they can't seem to get this game right so what am I supposed to believe for MS2?

What if I told you the "A Better Maple" survey was in preparation for what to do with MapleStory 2 instead.

good game decent could got more players but it felt like nexon just let it die
sure before its end they tried doing if you play this you get so so items

major flaw in it was its cash shop was expensive pretty easy to reach the max levels it had fast
needed a higher lv system...

in both cases the games died due to nexon only advertising in nexon... the easily overlooked post on main page
they want a game to survive they have to advertise it on regular bases and make it look interesting

they need to do this with maplestory right now even with school they need throw a few interesting advertisements out their on tv
or make special offers that would advertise on Xbox360/ps3/wii u/3ds
were if you do so and so you get a maplestory themed item in so so game and in maplestory you get a special chair that looks like system
and can get outfit that looks like so and so character of the game

like (im not big fan but) sword art online is on tv they need to advertises right their when its on and advertise a sword art online event like jms has
or full metal alchemist brother hood event

not to be rude, but your still speculating on a game that you know nothing about. I can see your worry with games shutting down in GMS but we don't actually even know if maplestory 2 is going to come to NA or any other portion of nexon outside of korea and possibly china/japan. All that being said your worrying about games that shutdown in GMS, these games run fine in the Asian markets, DFO is still going strong, you also forgot about kart rider btw, which is somewhat alive in korea as well.

What other mmorpgs do you see a bonus in having a high level character in the prequel? Maplestory 2 will be before Maplestory 1 so having some sort of bonus would be weird, and as people have said before could possibly kill the economy in a new game depending on the benefit (character transfer or something) i don't think i've ever seen a mmorpg that had a bonus for having a character in the original... atleast none come to mind really, then again i don't know many games that have come out with a 2, minus say tera, but thats not really anything other then a "expansion" not a new game.

BTW nexon has done advertising for there games before, none of them have gone that great though with actually bringing players, hence why there alittle skeptical to keep doing it, DFO died out because not many people liked the way it played in the west, hell most of nexon games lately do terrible in the west because more and more people are starting to dislike eastern styled mmo's (grind heavy, etc) granted these games have tried to fix themselves and have, but the people that actually enjoyed that type of grinding aspect left because they removed it. Can't please everyone sadily, as for the custom events/commercials you suggested, would be nice; but nexon america i feel actually doesn't develop anything at all anymore. They came up with the idea for nlc, then they blew it up to get rid of the idea of using it, and JMS or some other version brought it back to life with the gollux stuff.. so idk

@wingless666 i can understand your stance on staying away from the game, and your preference in game style, however most of nexons 3d games are "better" then maplestory when it comes to hacks or bugs; maplestory is just so popular that hackers target it for income or other means, and the way its "coded" is where the faults come in. While most if not all 3d games are server side based (granted alot of maplestory is too sorta...), so running into hackers is rare/non-existant. I would hope nexon korea would fine tooth the game enough not to run into issues that they ran into with maplestory 1 as they haven't run into issues with there other games... minus kart rider. Don't get me mistaken, botters will always be in famous mmorpgs, im just talking about hacks that are injected with a program, or modifying game files; not talking about automated programs.

I don't think I can personally handle maplestory 2 for a few reasons. One of the reasons i still play ms is because it is a decent 2d
game and nexon isn't reliable enough to make me want to try something they have just created. Even more of a reason not to
touch it would be, I feel if nexon can't get a 2d side-scroller right, a 3d would be dooomed to fail. I honestly don't wanna be a part
of that cycle again... But for others it could be worth a try......

I can't find anyone who has faith in Nexon. All the kids who use their Christmas money on NX like to complain.

You're forgetting... this is the Basil community - most people go through everything with a fine-toothed comb to find something to complain about...

feels nexons late to party on this one...
around time i started maple i also got beta invites to few other games... the controls were not that good but...

I bet it will be a fantastic game and within a few years, when they got everyone addicted, they'll make it P2W and destroy it like maplestory now.
