So what do you guys think of Sword Art Online?

I am loving it. I like the way the plot just helps to reflect on the characters. I never really enjoyed romance though but in SAO it pulls it off amazingly. I hate how almost all the good episodes end on cliffhangers though. It also comes out with subs on Saturday meaning I get two great animes on the same day.
@Irony: It sucks because it's bad in all the aspects that matter; story, characters, development, and all the literal stuff, not really caring on Art since even something bad can have good art: Fairy Tail and SAO. Really, what the hell did you think that it sucks meant?
Not really answer the question just rewording your statement.
"You are gay lol!1!"
"Why do you think that?"
"You just are LOLOLOLOL!"
That's basically what you just said.
Hell i can say the same for SAO.

It is soooo goood! I just started watching it yesterday...I just finished ep 9 or 10.
I looooved the part where he went all crazy on that blue demon thing and the first boss was awesome too.

They could expand it a little bit more by showing how gets some stuff...I mean all of a sudden you see the show jump over 30 floors! You also just start seeing Kirito use a regular sword in the beginning then the next, he switches over to some awesome looking black sword (forgot what it's called, not the dark repulser).

Animation quality: 8.5/10
Plot: 2/10
Everything else: 7/10

SAO is average; the high production value gets balanced out by how bad the writing is.

SO based on what you guys are saying, you would basically prefer Naruto or Bleach? That's the most crap anime I have ever seen.

@Irony: ok, i found my post: http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2525066/6/#42070639
i still stand by those points (they aren't articulated as well as i'd like unfortunately), though there are some additions/modifications i'd make.

since we shifted from SAO to ALO, the series has changed quite a bit. in terms of positive things, you get to see Kirito irl and he's much more likable than the seemingly self-insert Gary Stu he was in Aincrad. this disappears almost immediately when the plot finds a reason to let him keep his stats/skills/etc (it does make sense, but it's still Stu-y) for Alfheim.
continuing down the list of bad changes, Asuna has become a non-character and Damsel In Distress. atm i think i'm one episode behind the show but so far all she's done is sit around passively while a creep is preparing a shotgun wedding and smelling her hair. she threatens him with the presence of Kirito, and for the most part is relying on him to save her. she has at least tried to figure out the gate code for her cell, but it's a far cry from the girl who was the strongest female in SAO (and she even saved Kirito).

we've got another female character with unfortunate circumstances in Kirito's psuedo-sister/cousin, Suguha. she has been overly sexualized by various shots in the show. there are full bath and underwear scenes that aren't necessary other than as fanservice of a 15 y/o girl. also her initial plot presence involves "incestuous" feelings for her cousinbrother. i'm not on any crusade against incest, but its presence in this story is cliche and pandering. plot points like that sell BDs because the pathetic otaku culture Japan has created is too stunted to have a good relationship with anyone other than family or childhood friends. the "forbidden love" of incest is also used to be alluring. ultimately, the incest trope is one reserved for trash ecchi shows. SAO had enough potential and good ideas to be way above that, but it still stooped there. the whole involvement of Suguha is like some disjointed piece shoved in from another show.

so forgive me if i think the concepts of the show can't transcend its faults. it's certainly not a bad-looking show, it's got a great first OP, and by all rights it's just mediocre. but it does have glaring problems and i think most people on basil aren't acknowledging them (even the people who are critical of it). i've also yet to see somebody really articulate what they like about the show and WHY, which is what i attempted to do w/ my dislike of the show.

Lol at all of the people who hate without a good reason. I admit that some of the core elements of SAO are kind of confusing, or even bad if you just watch it. Reading the light novels are a much better option. The character development and storyline development is all there.

I do, however, understand why the fanbase for SAO is hated so much. Especially on Basil.
oh my god how can you even recommend BTOOM like it's better than SAO. tbh i'd say it's worse just b/c of the depraved stuff it pulls.

ot: i couldn't find the long post i made about why SAO sucks and i dislike it. at least it's pretty.

@Demonlord: i haven't read too many manhwa but Veritas was pretty solid. in general they seem to have good art, too.
do elaborate on how it sucks, I want to hear how wrong you are

I think the main character is really annoying. He just automatically becomes strong. There is no development, plain, boring main character= lame story.

Tried watching accel world, hated it. Idk how I lasted 3 episodes.
I look forward to watching SAO every week.

It's trash. Even the novels are terrible after volume 2, so don't listen to the people recommending the light novels.

Well, now there's certainly enough reason to hate him (wannabeswag and all that), but when he was just coming up, all innocent and such.
WOW, there I did not know there was this much hate for SAO on basil. I understand the complaints about ALO but it is still sort of intenseful. And as for what iTuneD said, they are not 8, so your argument is invalid.
This is the summary I got from the manga title page:
In the future where virtual reality is perfected, people became addicted to some cybernetic game. However some -insert word that means poop- happened, and all those players are now stuck. If they wanna leave they have to beat the game. If they die in the game, they die in reality. Basically the moral of the story is: There is always a -insert work that is the nickname for richard- out there who wants to screw people over.
