How badly do W039s affect your transcript

I currently have 4 w's on my transcript. I'm at a community college. 3 of those w's were due to military related reasons. Another 1 was a 1 unit online course that I didn't feel like doing. I may drop one more class this semester which turns out to be a class that I don't need for my major(nursing). My question is, how badly do w's affect your transcript when it comes to transferring. If I drop this class I'll have 5 w's. I should note my overall gpa throughout CC is 3.5, and am still currently serving so Idk if that affects admissions decisions or not.

+2 W's have no numerical effect on your GPA, but too many of them can be a source of some questioning. So long as you are able to sufficiently justify the W's, there shouldn't be a problem for most transfer admissions.

I have 1 W and nobody cares, but 5 seems like a lot. You might get some raised eyebrows and questions if you try to transfer/apply for your first job/apply grad school.

@dbenbaruk: Depends on your justification; in this case, you claim that most of them were due to your active service, which is easily justifiable. Just one essentially unexcused W isn't going to hurt you.

Either way, having four or five on your transcript will definitely result in some questioning. Just make your justifications clear (perhaps in a statement of purpose, which is typical for many 4-year institutions) and you should be able to make it out alright.

@renexz: Withdraw.

What @sezbeth says is basically on point. It will raise questions, and possibly lower your chances, but if you can justify it (like your military reasons), you should be fine.

That weird. W's in our school meant we had to retake the class eventually. If you don't take the class again and pass in a year, it becomes an F o_o

@duckymucky: I think you're talking about high school and OP is talking about college. I've never heard of a college/university that forced you to take a class if you withdrew from it. Sure, you have required classes for certain degrees but the school doesn't care if you take them or not.
