Guides marked for deletion: Any you want left in?
Hey Archers! Kevvl here once again with yet another guide based update. I was talking with B about the whole guide situation, and he agrees that the guides should be collapsed a bit less and the old comment system put back into place. The problem? We gotta remove the less used and less updated guides. Since the Bowman guides are jam packed with info, there's significantly fewer than the other forums (which have TONS to delete). Still, it's a mandatory cleanup.
The guides that I was thinking should be deleted are:
The Archer Key Settings -- It never really was popular, I think it's just using space. I haven't gotten any entries in at least 6 months.
Bow:XBow - The Ultimate Decision -- This guide was incredible...in 2008. Now it's just plain outdated and since Technolink is gone there's no real plans to revamp it. Considering how similar the two jobs have become and the fact that the entire purpose of the guide -- to prevent "which class?" threads -- is void since I can just lock those and post a message about listening to your heart, I don't think this guide is necessary any longer.
Any objections? All the rest are currently being updated and are still useful. They won't be deleted unless the guide owner suffers a freak accident and/or heart attack.
Oh, and the Skill Guide should be finished updating sometime tonight or tomorrow, depending on how important sleep becomes.

It'd be archived at best, but it's not one of the main guides that'll be helpful IN THE NEW ERA.
I think the Bow Vs Xbow guide should stay put for comparison to the present time.
I agree-- Key settings off.
However, bow/xbow should be left on. Why? because, even though not as evident as before, there ARE people who STILL ask about 'which class is better'. However, perhaps adding an additional section to the Archer FAQ or the like.
That or the Skill Guide was my original plan.
I like the bow vs. xbow guide. It could use some updates though.
i agree with the key settings: completely useless. Its more to "show off" your key settings than helping others.
and the Bow or Xbow guide may be outdated, but its still a good idea to have one of these kind of threads around. Maybe update it one day?
the guides that i really want deleted are the %/hour, dmg ranges, and discussion thread. the first 2 are mainly show off threads rather than actual guides and i dont even know how to use the 3rd one.
I completely disagree, the bowmen one isnt that showoffy, and the % an hour is really good for finding where to train.
The key settings isn't completely useless
I think almost all the guides are almost perfect the way they are.
I'd want the discussion thread to stay, if the guides are made more visible. If not, it's not really needed either. People just rather make new threads than go talk there
It would be nice to do this as Guide Section in general not just bowman.....kinda odd that you would only focus on one section.
I think the bowman guides are fine, but Mr. B needs to update his gunslinger guide
about the keyboard settings, i agree. i've seen it, but i prefer my own layout (i can boss one-handed ) so it wasn't so important for me
bor bow vs xbow, if no one is reaaaly up to the task, it should be deleted. it's been quite a while since i got told i hack since i hit dmg cap/don't shoot arrows with pierce/i snipe with a bow, or stupid questions like that as well. now, at least people have learned to use google, and there's a lot of haters ingame to "enlighten" the new players. and it's not like both classes are that different pre 4th job.. plus, the "post a message about listening to your heart" sounds quit good IMHO
that, or ask Mr.B to "unban" Freewebs sites and link to the class chooser. when i'm too lazy to convince someone i point them there. seems some people are so poor they don't even have a coin, so one click should do the trick
^I was thinking of adding a short section in the Archer Skill Guide that we could link users to. It'd make it way easier. Also, I like the idea that's been put out to merge the Key Settings with the Damage Range thread. If Spirit's cool with that, I'm cool with that.
Yeah, the Discussion Thread is pretty pointless now I think. Very low activity.
%/hr thread can be merged with the training guide to an extent. Bossing can also be merged with the training guide, although that would be way too much for you to update yourself. Group author function? Or keep them all separate as is, which would work too.
Separate. Please lord separate. We don't need to cut the guides down to oblivion. As a matter of fact, the Bowman guides need almost no cleanup -- we've got fewer guides than any other class. That, and I'm lazy.
And, the comments section will likely be devamped into the old way. That'll make the Discussion thread just as visible and useful as before.
I want _all_ of them to stay.
We EMS'ers can still use the info..
Certain guides will likely be archived for your use.
With EMS, mrbasil could give a shout out or something to anyone who wants to save the guides to do so before they get changed again. I doubt most guide writers will want to maintain two versions of their guide for two versions of MapleStory. With EMS, it would seem that you don't really need to update much info. So a personal copy for everyone wouldn't be too bad.
They don't need to maintain em.. just keep them the way they are!
I want _all_ of them to stay.

I think Bow vs. Xbow should just be a link to sapphire's random chooser. Most helpful thing in that entire thread, imo.
Key settings could just be a little subsection in the Skill guide or something to help people figure out which skills get replaced by which. I know that that would be helpful for me personally.
As we speak.
...yea I really don't feel the xbow or bow vibe like it was in 2008. wildhunters, yes, but other than that I guess it could just be archived.
....Never really cared for Archer key settings personally, although it did give me some insights on how some things potentially could be laid out for effcientcy...but then again it varies based on the computer....I mean 90% of where ppl put there pots would get me killed on my laptop due to its width and where those keys are.
