I am just curious if anyone has a rice cooker. I know most asians do, sense, it is quite obvious... but I know some of my friends eat the rice that requires it to be microwaved.
So basil, you gotz a rice cooker?

no instant rice here, all from those 8kg bags of rice from the grocery, my rice ends up however i want it to, (leaving extra water etc.)
the method I use is kinda a cheat, being able to leave the rice on low to save on electricity, and having no extra water at the end to remove the need to drain
I don't see how people get the need to drain the rice. It's supposed to be all soaked up and that's it, so that's good.
I got lost at what you said.

The right type of rice goes excellent with curry, and you have to cook it with the right consistency as well...
I hate overcooking my rice, when it becomes a big squishy mess.
(Kinda like... we call it moew? We take a short grain rice, and boil it in a pot with water till it just is a big squishy hot soup.)

I was trying to be comical
Ahh then.
Well, rice is good with egg, and soysauce. Even chinese sausage if cooked right.
Why are you stereotyping?....

Yes, I have one >.<
I am stereotyping the obvious. Most Asian households will have a rice cooker. Some won't, I know that, and other races would also have them. But gee, no need to get so offensive about it.

Every chinese family that has immigrated from China has a rice cooker (I hope).
Does the brand of rice even make a difference?
It's all the same...right?
nope, there's short grain, like japanese rice, which is short and sticky, like the kind in sushi
there's long grain, like chinese rice, which is longer (-_-) and not sticky, like in fried rice (if you ignore the oil)
there's jasmine (?) which is Indian rice (?), It's really long and loose, and smells weird (and tastes like it smells)
there are lots more too =P
How does your consistency end up? I get non sticky, nice and flaky rice with no burnt bottom and perfect texture. BS way is what those packages say: Bring to boil, lower to med and cover for x amount of mins.

rice + 2cm more water -> boil -> medium heat until water is almost gone (uncoverd) -> minimum heat for 15 minutes (coverd).

but how is that way BS?

White here.
I don't have one, but frequently steam my rice by using the pot steaming method. Not some BS way where you just put it in with 1:2 ratio rice:water, but wash -> soak for 30 mins -> bring to boil -> steam on low for 10 mins -> take off burner for 10-13 mins to continue steaming -> DONE.
I'd like to get a rice cooker, though.
@Eeveepony: Aha. I always overcook my rice, maybe I should try one of those things out then...

We only use it to make rice for more than 6 people.

@PotatoKris

We eat brown rice now instead of white rice. Brown rice is disgusting ;-;. It makes a horrible fried rice.

@Gardor: I think it's a pressure cooker thing. Not sure. Probably makes better rice than my dad does though

calories aren't the only thing that make a healthy diet
whole grain bread is way way more healthy than white rice
