Texans are very nice and calming

I live in Texas, and whenever I go north it's so different. Everyone's voice is so weird and whiny-sounding, yet they say I and my friends have a real rough-sounding accent. In my opinion, the Texan dialect is very calming and friendly sounding.
Also, other people think I'm crazy for being nice out of state. When I open the door for someone at a store or something out of state and say a greeting, they look at me as if I'm insane. Here in my home state that's what expected whenever people near each other enter a building.
What are your thoughts on this? Which side is stranger?

@dan34246:
I don't really live in the rural life, but Hamilton's a pretty small city. So, suburbs? But, the rural homes are so nice. There's this old, abandoned home in the middle of an overgrown place (I think it may have been a farm?), and it's so relaxing there when someone isn't throwing a party in it. Living in Texas, I think you've seen one of those houses on the side of the road with no neighborhood: alone and free. They seem really nice to live in.

@zippinbolts:
Depends on the area. It's pretty hard to have a ranch in Galveston.

@Milkocha:
It's annoying wondering which one is good and which one sucks, so my family just goes into the cleanest-looking one.

@Braviary: The only problem with Houston is how there's a pho restaurant on every corner.

@milkocha:
Yeah there are an abundance of nice restaurants, but a wrong restuarant could lead to absolutely horrible and overpriced food.

@Milkocha:
There's nothing wrong with saying "y'all". My parents are afraid employers and interviews for colleges will find be disrespectful for saying it, though.
The weather is bipolar, which is why we get so many tornados. c:

I live near Dallas! ;D I personally hate it here in Texas because of our bipolar weather. I've also picked up the word "y'all" from living in Texas which makes my Asian friends laugh because I'm the only one who says it... (I'm Asian too)

I personally hate Texas. I'm no where near a country guy and on top of that it sucks here near Houston. I'd rather be in Austin or Dallas...or out of this state better yet.

@Embrace:
It doesn't get that hot. It's like 105-ish at the hottest and 20-ish degrees at the coldest. Here's the current weather.

A lot of people in California don't even acknowledge you or thank you for holding a door/opening a door for them. They just walk straight on through. I find it... rude-ish, but most people in the younger generation lack manners and act as such. You get used to it though.

@spring786 That's not Texas, that's Georgia (I think?)

I live in California right now but my dad's side lives in Texas and I really love visiting that great state. <3 <3 <3

I live in the DFW area, and I don't hear a texan accent

You live there, thus you're used to the habits of Texans. This is why people from other places sound weird to you (different accents, etc.)

@Regatzopunk:
The Dallas area is cool; I used to live around there before moving at age eight. I still visit it pretty often, though.
I like it better here in Hamilton, though.

@SaneleeBoring:
It don't matter. We're really nice to all races. There are a few racist individuals, but every state has those.
