I wouldn't say the LoZ games are exactly RPG
Any Dragon Quest game that is numbered is good, namely DQIV, V and VI.
The latest one is DQIX, the storyline is a bit eh, but the customisation is rather fun.

I'd say Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks, but I'm not a big fan of them. I love Zelda games usually, but they just weren't my favorite.

If you aren't a fan of Mario (GASP!) I don't know if you'll like Magical Starsign alot or not. It's a bit like Mario in it's childishness and sense of humor, but different otherwise. But you're looking for something new...so...

I have all generic Pokemon games (the colored versions, but I'm hoping to try out Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs to see how those are), so that's out of the question. XD

Not really into Mario (don't shoot me). Magical Starsign I can look into. I'm into underrated game, since I have a few that I love! :> I still enjoy a few games I got years ago.

EDIT: Magical Starsign is really old. x.x I need newer games since this is for a Christmas list and my family will most likely be buying new games you can find on shelves.

-Pokemon (No durr! Hehehe)
-Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (really, REALLY awesome!)
-Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (not as awesome as Bowser's Inside Story but STILL AWESOME!)
-Magical Starsign (Very unknown and underrated, but really wierd and cool It's alot like Mario RPGs and you can pick it up used for 5 bucks!)

If you're talking about FFX though, I guess it's quite similar, but FFX is extremely dissimilar to most FF games.

No joke, I was just looking that up on YouTube. I am just not sure if I'd like the gameplay. Although, it kinda reminds me of final fantasy style gameplay, and I had a FF game for my DS before and played it through and enjoyed it. I might give it a shot.
