Nightlord

NLs died out

Hello fellow Night Lords. I do believe we have all realized our race has died... The few that remain are the ones who have loved the class since the beginning. I know i have! I can still remember when Assassins were at their peak. Before Big Bang, when Dexless sins were the most GODLY class ever. I am talking level 45's in the Monster Carnival with Sauna Robes, a Maple Kandayo and some type of star. People always wanted us and we always took the Rombots haha. we had the best damage and we looked awesome. I might as well tell you my story and i hope some of you will share yours in the comments!
It was in 2006 or 2007, i had just moved to a new state and didn't have any friends. My neighborhood wasn't even close to done and there weren't many kids. The house next to me was finally finished and a new family moved in. They had a kid who was also in 3rd grade! Man was i happy. I went over to his house and he was upstairs on his computer. Trust me when i say computer... He had an Alien Ware desktop and another two laptops on the table next to him. This kid was a friggin genius. He was playing this game called Maplestory. I was in awe. He was a level 75 I/L mage. He had a full equip tab of Maple items and dang was he rich. He had almost 150 million mesos! That was a ton back then and i was immediately interested in the game. I asked him how to play and he got up from his chair and grabbed his other laptop and made me an account. He played in Windia and he set me up in there. He showed the the basic controls and helped me make my character. I made an archer as my first person. I trained on snails, strictly snails, until level 27 and i couldn't level up anymore. Then again i put all of the AP into Int,Luk,Str and dex because i wanted to be smart and lucky while also being accurate and strong. it took me almost a month and a half to get to level 27. I told him and he laughed and told me to make a new person. This time i picked an assassin. He told me what to do and to raise dex and luk. i was in kerning around a week after i made him. I was level 10 at this point in time, and i saw the coolest and most amazing Assassin i had ever seen. He had a Sauna Robe, a Maple Claw and some other cool stuff. I traded him and asked him what he was, he told me he was a dexless sin. I said "What's that?" He asked me how long i had been playing and i told him my story. He laughed and put 4 things in trade... He put 1 set of Illbis, 1 set of steelys, a bath robe for level 20's and an extra maple claw. He told me not to raise any dex and i would thank him later. He clicked trade and so did I. He retraded me almost immediately and said "I almost forgot this!" He put 5 million in the trade box and told me "I hope when you find yourself in this situation, you will do the same" and he gave it to me. I ran over my neighbors house with my laptop and showed him. He just sat there in awe. I did exactly as the guy told me and never raised dex. I made it to level 30 and went to the monster carnival. I was so excited. It took me almost 3 months to get to level 30 and it paid off. I was being invited to parties faster than i could accept the invites! I had rombot battles until i was level 51 and I was scared, i didn't know what to do! At this point in time, i now have a sauna robe with + 8 luk and a maple kandayo scrolled with 100% scrolls. I was hitting close to 3000 per star without criticals. Almost 6 months later ( i think ) i got to 70! I put 1 point into avenger and i was off. That was by far my favorite thing ever. I was training with my neighbor because he made a new character so we could play together. Then he got banned..... He tried to buy some nx but his card was rejected and the nx was still given to him. They thought he hacked the system and banned him. We both quit. A year went by and we still hungout but i always remembered the game. I came back after seeing a commercial on the t.v about a new computer game but i dind't play that one, no. i came back to Maplestory. 3 years or so went by with me playing and getting my brother into it. I was in 8th grade and had just gotten a Demon Slayer and was on him when i heard my friend run up the stairs. I tried logging out but he saw something. We were biking about a week later and i told him all about the new stuff. He asked me what level my Assassin was and i told him 73... He looked at me and said "You haven't leveled?" I told him no, we made that character together and i wasn't gonna change it. He went home that day and made a new account. I made a new Nightlord and we continue to play. He is now a level 168 phantom and i am a level 188 Night Lord.
That's my story and i am not going to end up quitting my NL. We are a unique bunch. We don't care about damage, we care about the playstyle and the fun of the game. I know not many people will read this but if you did then thank you. Post your story in the comments if you want

I remember back when Ludibrium first came out and people used to sit outside trying to organize Pap Runs like they were impressive. Dispel + 1/1 would kill 4/6 members of the party and it was usually up to the remaining two (usually Crusader/DK or Hermit/CB with BoT) trying to take them down.

My only reason for playing my NL: Too much time invested into it in the past

Nostalgia is nice to experience time to time, but when you see threads like these popping up every other week... pls

Haha, funny. I didn't write this as some sort of essay, and if you hadn't noticed, many other people told their story to and a lot of them found this enjoyable! That was the point and i have read all of the stories. It's fun to read about the old times

I really miss those days I was your age when I started playing haha. I was never pro at all, I had a clean bathrobe back in the day and threw wolbis? I'm not completely sure what they were, I think they might have been kumbi's. Had my thief for years, and it got falsely banned two weeks after I hit 200. I wish I could re-meet my old buddies from that age I really miss the old days

Gosh threads like these have always been bitter sweet for me. Your story was a nice read, TS. It's always nice reading loyal NL players stories because it inspires me somehow.

Started playing a month or two before 3rd Maple Anniv. I can't remember the exact month but it was during an Easter Event that I joined in and I dreaded turkeys all over Henesys for my level 8 Mage could not even make a dent on them. My first character was a STR Ice Lightning mage. I didn't realize what I was doing was wrong until it was level 83. I quit it and made another IL as a side character along with a new main, NL. It wasn't until after KoCs were released that I hit 4th Job on both my IL and NL. This all happened in Demethos. Then Aran came. A few months later, Demethos finally got MTS along with the release of Galicia. Demethos died during that time. The only people I knew that remained were the hardcore merchants who were excited about MTS. I quit maplestory for a year.

I heard about Big Bang from a cousin who played KMS. When BB hit GMS, I came back all excited and shat only to find out that all the hard work I did before were taken in vain. The two 4th jobbers I worked for were no longer special. My IL couldn't spam the very skill which was the reason why I played through those months of being picked on at Wind Raider maps. My NL seemed to have taken the bigger hit as it seemed too weak. I've never been a hardcore damage h03 but I guess it was just different because by the time I got back, potential system was the newest game content and all my equips had none. I was to quit my NL in Demethos as I decided to leave. I packed my bags, converted the meso I made from selling leech into WGs, brought my NL equips to be sold when I get to Windia and 1m pot money.

I moved to Windia during that last Halloween event before the Big Bang patch. I made about 900 stews and leveled my mules along the way. That funded me for some time while I tried to keep on playing the IL I brought from Demethos. But I missed NL so bad. I ended up not selling my NL equips and selling my IL equips instead. I made a new NL. Made new friends along the way, lost all of them through out the years. I've been playing on and off since then but whenever I come back to Maple, I come back to my NL and only my NL. Lately though, I feel like Nexon has forgotten about us. I just hope I'm wrong as I really like this class and would like to play it until the day GMS shuts down.

Started back in Summer 06. A friend got me into it and I decided to start a bandit because according to my friend, I could steal from other players XD.
Really messed up the stats like everyone else did back then and after a few weeks decided to restart since it got quite bothersome having to wait a few extra lvls just to equip the next set of armor. Right before I restarted, I saw a video of a KMS player playing his Hermit. I instantly fell in love with the class even though I still didn't understand the game much. As an assassin and hermit I had decent dmg, nothing serious. I didn't go the dexless route up until maybe 6-12 months before they removed the secondary stat requirement? I was also hacked about the same time Arans were released. Stopped playing my Hermit for a while since I couldn't even fund it to have a full set of armor. I've thought about quitting my NL every time a new OP class is released, but I always come back after a week or two of playing the new class. I just enjoy the play style too much.

Ahh nostalgia......Well i just got back on my sin, he's lvl 50 and has 25 base dex. Well with tempest no more need for DEX but oh well better wait for AP resets. I'm starting to play him again but where should i train now? Scarecrows at lvl 50 is so boring and jesters are too strong. I tried going to ludi pq, but the pq gathering room is so empty. I wish it went back to the way it was. Also super excited for the revamp, but nexon please don't make NLs too flashy, it just wouldn't fit with the description of an assasin.

I WANT AN AP RESET and ts thats a story quite similar to how i started actually.

Night Lords did die out a bit, but I still love the job - hence, I have 2 Night Lords.
Even on my phantom, which I main, I sometimes steal Quad throw just to feel like a Night Lord

@PissingMeOffP i wish they would just give us avenger back and let us be "The Bossing" class again I don't want any new super flashy skills, that would upset me deeply.
got mixed up, I've been playing for about 6 years and I associate that with Cygnus knights since a dawn warrior was my first serious character (as stupid as a dawn warrior as a serious character sounds). Also I'm pretty sure you're off by a couple of years. CK's came out sometime in 09..
Yeah, I was looking here under "Ultimate Explorer" instead of "Cygnus": http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-What-Came-When-in-GMS-283.html

Even if it's 2009, you'd have been overestimating by two years when you said six.

Anyway:
I remember back when I first made this character, originally my first character was a dawn warrior
This was in your first post. Doesn't sound like there's enough wiggle room for what you're saying now. The association part is as though it's just convenient for your new narrative, but whatever.

@friendlydawn: It felt sooooo great! Back in 2010, people used to look at NL's so high and everyone was like "Hey please show me your shadow skill along with triple throw!" Hahaha oh man, if I had a time machine I would totally go back there to revive those moments!

I still play my NL and it feels wonderful just like the day I advanced to 4th job and got the TT skill from Zakum! Yeah... just had a "maplegasm".

Yeah I remember those days. I still play my NL, it's been my highest leveled character ever since .. '07? And let me tell you, I was never strong at all. When I told people that I was playing an unfunded assassin as my first character on a new account in Scania, they called me stupid LOL. All my maple career has been filled with poverty, but I didn't really care. Playing a NL was fun to me, and it still is.
Read the whole thing. Broole story co.

I remember back when I first made this character, originally my first character was a dawn warrior, I hit 120 on that quickly and after a while I got bored of it, so I decided to make a new character. Originally I was just making the character for this event they had going on, if you got a new character to level 50 you could get this ring (the explorer's ring that gives crit %) but I ended up liking my sin so much that I just decided I was going to main it. After a while of playing I made it pretty far by doing LPQ and what not, and then BAM we got hit by a huge rollback. It LITERALLY set the server back to before I made my character, I lost about 40 levels of progress on it. Because of this, I wasn't able to hit 50 in time for the ring. I remember I was raging pretty hard. It was at this point that I got up from my chair. I needed to clear my mind for a bit, all that progress lost. I walked into the living room and opened the door. I then proceed to get on the floor and walk the dinosaur.
I can now die peacefully.
