Barre chords on guitar, curved index finger problem

Hey if anyone on here plays guitar, I'm having a lot of trouble with barre chords. My index finger curves a bit inward, so when I barre the strings, the top strings and the bottom strings are not barred down. Only way I can barre all of them down is if I curve my finger into a C, but it feels very unnatural and I've been told that it's a bad habit to barre chords with your fingers curved like a C. Also, when I feel my index finger there's like a huge bump at the segment, which screws up the alignment of it even more, does a lot of people go through this, or am just screwed.

just keep on practicing doing it straight
have you tried using the side of your index finger? (the side closest to the thumb) and lean on that side more

edit:i went to go strum my guitar like the 'c' shape like you said
and how in the world do you do that? LOL it feels so uncomfortable

but being said, just practice doing it straight and if that does not work just go back to your 'c'
