@ulti25: Most of my classes I've had to bring my textbook to class
That's weird, I've never had a course where it's mandatory to bring in anything.

I guess another alternative would be to just bring in a laptop with the files.
Rent the textbooks from amazon. And if you are going to torrent it, are you going to print it out and take it to class? lol
You just don't take a textbook to class, like many people do. Although I guess you could just transfer a pdf to a kindle or something similar?

Either get a physical copy for free/very cheap from a friend that's already taken the course before you or use usenet/torrents/ddl to get books. If you aren't an idiot with the size of the files that you're downloading, it's very unlikely you'll get anything bad.

1. rent textbooks
2. buy a used textbook (usually cheaper)
3. buy a used textbook and then photocopy everything, and return the book
4. find a free e-book version

Get upper class man friends that already own the textbooks or scan the files before opening them. Renting textbooks is pretty cheap too, which is an option nowadays.

I don't want to spend money on textbooks for college; my friend said that I can download them through torrents, but I'm afraid of downloading a virus in the process
Any suggestions?
I never used it myself, but it is one of the renter sites out there. I'm very comfortable with B&N from personal experience and would probably go there again xD
Yeah, I have a B&N on campus too and usually they're ok. I haven't returned anything to them yet but I've heard bad things, so I'll probably sell to friends or random people.
Renting from Chegg, B&N or any site that provides rentals if you want to use some money. They're legit.
I personally need a solid book in front of me so just a pdf won't cut it.
Man, I hate Chegg. Mostly when they're the #1 result for something on google, but all you get to see is "sign up today!"
