i'm hoping that theres gotta be some basilers out there who go to cons...

so i got a artist alley table at AX for next year. problem is, this is gonna be my first time as a vendor so i'm in the middle of gathering advice on what to do.

from you guys i'd like to hear stuff like, what kind of merch do you usually/mostly get (prints, charms, etc) and how much you're willing to pay for them
what's popular, what's not, what you think is going to be popular by next year (what's safe to try)
and what the competition's like

honestly i'm also conflicted on what kind of art style to go for, so what you guys tend to look for (strong graphic design? strong artistic technique? a very unique style? all of the above?) would be helpful too.

if theres actually anyone here who has tabled at AX or other cons before any con advice would be awesome too

I go to Otakon every couple years... I usually begin with a planned merch budget, then walk out with 4x that spent by the end >->

The usuals for me: Lots of plushies, lots of buttons, a few keychains and charms, some prints, some stickers, a hat or two, and I'm usually on the lookout for a new laptop or messenger bag (if I need one, and if one is available). Sometimes there are cute little handmade figures/statues, and I buy a few that catch my eye to put on a shelf in my dorm.

The rest of my money goes to graphic novels and other comics on sale in the Dealer's Room. Between Otakon and ComicCon my bedroom back at home has turned into a small library...

I'm a plushie and figure buyer personally. Sometimes I will buy prints if they really stand out or just insanely cute. Some artists i see usually go for stuff that is generally popular withing the last few years or has a very large fanbase for.

I go to AN every year or so, bookmarks, pins, and hats are what I usually buy. Items under $4 are what I see clearing pretty fast, anything over if it's not oversized/amazing quality typically go home with the seller. (People LOVE pins, if you can rent a machine you can start commissions with those)

Generally, people want small items that can conveniently be carried around, get some keychains. I love those, also well known items from franchises, such as the vongola rings from Reborn! Those sold really well at the last con I went to. Good Luck.

I admit I go to cons at least once to twice a year! For me I know the Colossalcon artist ally is the only artist ally I have spent money in. I bought:
Anime themed bikini's
Acrylic cut pins
and rarely buttons

but for me I love seeing anime themed jewlery and clothing that isnt made of metal because I have sensitive skin so that tarnishes and leaves me with a rash lol. a small one but a rash none the less. but I also love small prop replicas that are well made, I saw one girl made resin casts of madoka soul gems, I would have bought them if the original mold wasnt a little wonky... but it really depends on the con on what will sell.
