FallenMemorys Bishop Bossing Guide

[header]Latest Updates![/header]
-Small Skill Name Changes.

Thread Updated on: May 18th, 2013

[header]Introduction:[/header]
I decided to write this guide to help my fellow Bishops in the community. I've noticed while playing that many Bishops have numerous question regarding bossing and our role during each boss. The problem up until now has been that the information has been scattered across numerous forums and website. Hopefully that will all change now.

This guide has hit max length, so I can't really add much more. If you want to see more content added PLEASE Submit a Ticket under BasilID on the top bar of Basilmarket. Click the "suggestion" section and put a link to the guide asking for it to be stickied. Also, being able to use inline pictures and more headers would make this guide so much better, and easier to understand. Thanks!

[header]What you can find in this guide:[/header]
- Important information that Bishops need to know regarding all the major bosses in Maplestory. This includes all the stats, attacks, HP, and status effects of the bosses. Be aware that this means I've left out some information that I felt was irrelevant to a Bishop.

- For each boss I will cover an overview of the boss, strategies for both party and solo bossing and your role at each boss.

[header]What YOU can do to help improve this guide:[/header]
-When making this guide I went through a lot of data, and as such I'm bound to have made some mistakes. If there's anything you feel is incorrect or needs fixing PLEASE leave a comment below or PM me so I can fix it. Yes this includes Typos. =P

-Also if there's anything you would like to see added to this guide such as more bosses or tips, feel free to let me know and I'll try to get on it as best I can.

[header]Basic Tips, Advice and Bishop Know-how:[/header]
- Try to get as much Status Resistance as you can, as it will really help you out when bossing. You start off with a pretty big 40% from Bahamut and can get more from maxing willpower combined with some demon slayer character cards. Upcoming Hyperskills will give us some more also.

-One trick to maximize damage is to teleport in-between casts of Angel Ray. If you do it right it shouldn't slow you down, and teleport mastery will be doing damage.

-Remember that Bishop Magic Guard can no longer be dispelled.

-I suggest getting a Mihile to level 70 for the link skill. It's really useful.

-Getting Hero's Will is a must for Bishops in my opinion. Being able to break out of seduce if need be really can help save your party. Remember that Hero's Will can be used to break out of most status effects and not just seduce. Granted, the situations you will need to use Hero's Will on something other than seduce are extremely narrow, as dispel is almost always better.

-Bahamut will not trigger Damage Reflect.

PDR and MDR. What does it mean?
This is sometimes a topic that people get easily confused on. As a Bishop you are worried about MDR (Magical Damage Reduction) rates. Normally this is the same as PDR but some bosses like Von Leon and Ark have different values. I've listed each boss's values below. PDR and MDR are the percentage your damage will be reduced.

For example, 70% MDR on a monster means your damage will be reduced by 70%. The more Ignore Defense you get on your character the less this 70% reduction will apply. Say my Bishop has 80% MDR, this means the 70% MDR the mob has will be reduced to 24% (80%*70%=56%, This means you ignore 56% leaving 24% of the 80% left). Thusly, 100% Ignore Defense means you do full damage on everything (assuming the mob isn't holy strong or something).

Status Symbols:
One thing I feel that every Bishop should know is the status symbols. Knowing what each of these do if vital to playing a good supporting role in your party. Unless stated otherwise below all these status' can be removed using dispel.

Overview:
Zakum has become somewhat of a joke after Big Bang. He can easily be defeated in mere minutes even for a solo Bishop with little to mid funding.

Solo:
The strategy here is just to attack. None of the arms or bodies really do anything that could kill you assuming you pot after each hit. The things to watch out for are 1/1 Attack, Seal, and Stun from the fire pillars that will fall down. If you really want to be safe take out Arm 5 and 6 first as they are the most annoying. Arm 5 curse, seals, and weakens, and Arm 6 heals 50k HP every 30 seconds, and gives Weapon and Magic attack buffs to the arms.

Just spam Angel Ray for the most part. During the arms, if you position yourself right, Angel Ray will not only hit the arms in front of you, but also the arms on the other side. The Mihile link skill can help a lot during this part. As long as you use potions after every 1/1 attack the bodies shouldn't give you any issue.

Party:
I don't really know anyone who still goes to Zakum in a party, but if you wanted to the only thing you really need to do is attack and dispel your party members when they get sealed, weakened etc. Make sure to keep the party buffs up as well, though most of the time, the buffs last longer than the boss run. xD

Overview:
The same general attacking strategies apply for normal Zakum. The only difference is that Chaos Zakum is a lot more annoying. He'll dispel, 1/1, and seal pretty frequently. Infrequently during the bodies he will use potion lock, but this can be dispelled so it isn't that much of an issue.

Solo:
Trying to solo Chaos Zakum may seem intimidating, but it's really not all that bad once you understand all of his attacks.

Arms
To start, take out Arm 5 first, so you don't have to worry about Seduce. Then take out Arms 1 and 2 next, so that dispel doesn't annoy you. After that it's smooth sailing until the bodies. Remember it is okay to use heal during this section because of no zombify.

Bodies
This is where things get tricky. First things first, make sure to never use heal. In my experience the icon for Zombify lags so trying to time it is an unnecessary risk. Also make sure to keep track of your character so that when your keys get reversed you don't end up walking the wrong way.
The real challenge of this fight is when Zakum uses Seduce and the 1/1 Attack immediately afterwards. Due to not being able to use potions during seduce, this combination of attacks is quite deadly. You have two options to try and avoid this:

- One is to use Hero's Will right away in fear of a 1/1 (You can't use Hero's Will after 1/1 due to no MP)
or
- Try and wait until you see the Zakum's 1/1 animation to use Hero's Will.

Obviously the second method is preferred, but requires you to be paying attention to animations quite carefully and respond really fast. Having Cleansing potions or a very high amount of Status Resistance makes this a lot easier. The last tip is to always have Holy Magic Shell up whenever possible. Zakum's seduce animation happens way too fast to try and time shell right before it. It's easier and more effective to just use shell as soon as it's off cool-down. Beside that tricky part the rest of Chaos Zakum is just dealing enough damage to finish within the 90 minute time limit.

Party:
During arms it is okay to use Heal, but during the body do not use Heal due to Zombify except for in certain circumstances listed below.
In a party, your role is to dispel your party and keep Advanced Bless up. You're also going to be responsible for keeping your party alive when seduced. Chaos Zakum will only seduce the first 5 people to enter the altar unless one of those 5 dies. Due to this Bishops should enter the altar last. Save you're Holy Magic Shell for when your party get seduced. If it is on cooldown for some reason, this is a time that if would be safe to use heal during the body. As far as I know, Chaos Zakum will not use zombify when seducing (Need Confirmation). Chaos Zakum also infrequently uses potion lock during the bodies. This can be dispelled though so it's not too troublesome. This is mainly all there is to a party run. If you have decent damage and can manage it all, you could also attack, though during the bodies dispelling is probably a better idea.

Overview:
Horntail has also become quite easy. He can be easily soloed and you often don't need to take a full party. Horntail is setup across 3 rooms. The first room contains the first preliminary head. After that is defeated you move to another room with the second preliminary head. Once that is completed you move into the main chamber where actual Horntail awaits.

Solo:
Soloing horntail is not as difficult as one might expect. The first time I attempted it, I overestimated him greatly and was stuck waiting like 20 minutes for drops.

Preliminary Heads
These heads are pretty easy, and you can just spam Angel Ray. This room does have a weird lag that makes all of your attacks feel sticky. This can be mitigated by standing on the platform behind the head once it spawns. Alternating Mihile's Link skill with Holy Magic Shell should make it so you don't fall off the platform that often. The only other thing to note is that these preliminary heads can use seduce. You can normally just wait it out though since normally the preliminary heads don't like to 1/1 too often, but be aware that they can use it. Regardless of which strategy you choose, be aware that standing on the edge of the top platforms allows you to hit all 3 heads with AR. Also the small platform on the top right lets you hit 2 heads, both wings and the left arm sometimes. This will help maximize damage.

Main Chamber
This is where the real fight begins. Hit the purple rock on the right side a couple times to summon Horntail. Start on the left side of Horntail and spam Angel Ray. From this position you should be hitting both the Tail and Legs at the same time. By staying on the left you also avoid the tail's touch damage which can be pretty hefty. Once the legs and tail are done there are multiple different approaches you can take. This stems from the fact that Horntail will not drop any items upon death until 30 minutes from the time he was summoned (Unless you are in a party of at least 6). These approaches are:

1) The first strategy is to start attacking the right and left arms next. The idea behind this is to kill the only part of Horntail that can seduce, thus making the fight significantly easier. From there you move on to the heads, ultimately leaving one head alive until the timer hits 30 minutes after summon. The problem with this method is that leaving a head alive means you will be taking damage during the waiting time which can be annoying. I suggest this method for people who have trouble with seduce and are going to use more than 30 minutes to kill Horntail.
Order: Legs+Tail > Arms+Wings > Heads

2) The other strategy is to leave an arm for last. By doing so, you can comfortably wait out the timer while not having to worry about attacks. (The arm will not attack you and seduce won't matter once there's nothing left to damage you). If you stay on the left side of Horntail and position yourself correctly, the right arm will not be able to reach you with seduce. If you can kill all the parts from the left side and leave the right arm I recommend doing so. I suggest this method for people with high amounts of status resist, won't get knocked around a lot, and can kill Horntail very quickly.
Order: Legs+Tail > Left Arm+Wings > Heads > Right Arm

3*) This strategy involves leaving the tail last. I personally haven't done this method but @itsRichu suggested it. This strategy allows you to get to leave the tail as the last body part which will not harm you if you stay in the top left corner while waiting for the timer. The risk with this method is that if you do get seduced you are probably going to be running into the tail which has a hefty touch damage. The advantage is that once you kill both arms the fight is very easy. Stay on the left side when killing the legs so you don't take the tail touch damage. And try to not fall off the platform when attacking the right arm.
Order: Legs > Arms+Wings > Heads > Tail

Now for the actual fight information. The only real difficulty is dealing with Seduce plus a 1/1 attack. The trick to this is to leave the Cornians that Horntail summons alone. By doing this, if you get seduced you will take touch damage from the Cornians which will give you invincibility frames, hopefully letting you avoid a 1/1 attack. For this reason I suggest leaving Bahamut and teleport mastery off. Obviously, using method 1 described above helps avoid this situation most of the time. Besides that everything is pretty easy. The only head that might give you issue is the top right one. This is because you can only hit it with Angel Ray from one tiny platform and you often fall off. Using the Mihile Link Skill and Shell should help with that though.

Party:
If you go in a party there's only a couple things to keep in mind. First is that usually horntail seduces in the order people entered the cave. As of late Horntail seems to be seducing quite randomly sometimes so I don't really know what the deal is. Regardless you as the Bishop should try to enter the cave last to be safe. This applies to the all 3 sections of the cave.

The things to look out for are Seduce, Dispel, and other status ailments. Make sure to buff and Dispel your party appropriately. When they get seduced heal them or use shell. The order for killing should be Legs+Tail>Arms+Wings>Heads as you will get drops in a party of 6 without having to wait. Watch out for the Black Wyverns which sometimes also dispel if they bump into you. Besides that everything should be pretty easy.

Overview:
I've done this once before and the only thing you need to worry about it doing enough damage to finish it time. Also the top right head does magic DR and eats up a lot of time.
Solo:
The first thing that should be on your mind is the actual hardest part of this fight, the staggering amount of HP he has. Compared to the combined 2.75 billion HP of normal Horntail, the 13.3 billion of Chaos Horntail is nothing to laugh at. Once you decide to do this, you're in for the long haul. While the amount of HP might be intimidating, don't worry, CHT shares a lot of the same properties as normal HT.

Preliminary Heads:
The approach for this is the same as regular HT. Stand on the platform behind the head to avoid the room lag and spam Angel Ray using Shell and Mihile Link Skill as often as possible. You will get seduced during this part most likely but you should be OK as long as you watch out for the 1/1 attack. Use Hero's Will if needed. Other than that this part is pretty basic.

Main Chamber:
The best way to look at Chaos Horntail is as just a larger (HP wise) normal Horntail that does more damage. The things to look out for are Zombify from the left and right head, along with the seduce from the two arms. One thing you'll need to be aware of is that the right head will start to Magic Damage Reflect after 50% hp. This reflect will last for 7 seconds and have a cool down of 60 seconds, so make sure to keep track of when he uses it. He will reflect about 5000 plus or minus 5000 damage so it's possible to tank the reflect unlike some other bosses, as long as you have enough HP. Just make sure when you attack the left and middle heads, your Angel Ray doesn't accidentally poke the right head. Keeping the Cornians Horntail summons alive is really important here so turn off teleport mastery and Bahamut. You're going to get seduced a lot and having the Cornians damage you can prevent you from getting 1/1 attacked. I would suggest going in this order: Legs+Tail > Arm+Wings > Left+Middle Head > Right Head.

Party:
Your role here is exactly the same as normal HT except don't use heal while the right and left heads are alive. I'm pretty sure Chaos Horntail seduces in the order people entered the cave just like normal HT.
When they get seduced follow them and use Holy Magic Shell. Only heal if you're ABSOLUTELY sure there's no zombify. There is a chance for mass seduce when his HP is less than 30% so look out for that. Watch out for the Black Wyverns which sometimes also dispel if they bump into you. The order for killing should be Legs+Tail > Arms+Wings > Heads with the Magic Users attacking the left head and the Weapon Users attacking the right so as to avoid the damage reflect. Besides that everything else should be pretty self explanatory.

Overview:
If there ever was a boss Bishop's were never meant to fight this would be it. Too bad we do it anyways xD. The difficulty of this boss is a combination of things. First off due to its non-existant vertical range, Angel Ray cannot hit any of the Wisemen or Bird statues while on the flat ground. This means Bishops must use Big Bang on the Wisemen and Holy Arrow on the bird statues. Ariel also is completely holy immune so a combination of teleport mastery with energy bolt yields the best DPS. Lastly Pink Bean himself is holy strong which severely nerfs our damage. One thing to note is Pink Bean will not mass seduce if he is facing right.

One of the most important things to know about this boss is that the two bird statues have a line of sight. This sight extends from the bird statue to the golden orb at the base of the Wisemen.
Heres a Picture of the Orb
For this reason when the birds are active no one in the party should ever cross that orb until the statue is dead. Failing to stay behind the orb can cause the left bird to trigger damage reflect and the right bird to trigger seduce. When you do cross after the bird dies, make sure you're fast about it.

The order for killing is this:
Left Wiseman (Stand on the platform to the right of the statue and use AR since the bird is inactive, You kill him twice)
Cross Map

Solo:
As of v.132 and Hyperskills it is possible to full solo. In order to finish within the alloted hour though you're going to need to be hitting max. You also should get to 100% status resistance (Bahamut + Max Willpower + HS Preparation Hyper + 30% Status Resistance Potion). The last thing you'll need is around 33k HP since PB's DR hits for ~31k. This gives you a safety net that you will probably need.

The strategy is to use the order listed above. The first time you fight the left and right Wisemen use Angel Ray since the birds are inactive. Just stand on the platform next to the statue. After that though, you need to use Big Bang for the Wiseman and Magic Claw for the Bird Statues, making sure to never cross the golden orb at the base of the Wisemen until the bird on that side is dead. Crossing it will trigger DR or Seduce depending on the side. If you have 100% status resist you can ignore the right bird and just spam AR instead. Keep this method up and it should be pretty straightforward. Keep in mind the Zombify and try not to heal when next to an active left bird or right Wiseman. Also watch out for getting your keys reversed. You don't want to accidentally cross the orb because went the wrong way.

When you get to Ariel you'll find out that she in completely holy immune. Thus, the maximum DPS you can do is using energy bolt with teleport mastery in-between each cast. Make sure to use Heaven's Gate whenever possible as it is element neutral. She will also zombify.

As for Pink Bean himself you're just going to have to be careful. Assuming you got to ~33k HP you should be ok if you have autopot. Watch out for the DR animation and know that his DR has a Cooldown of 43 seconds and lasts for 25 seconds. Make sure when he can use DR to only attack when he's in the middle of an attack animation. Good luck!

Thanks to @OmnipotArc for a lot for making his solo video. It provided a lot of insight.

Party:
For a party the order stays the same as listed above. If you want to attack, it's the same method as solo; Big Bang for Wisemen and Holy Arrow for Birds. Usually the party leader will yell out when everyone is supposed to cross. Your job here is to Dispel and Buff your party and to not heal everyone to death. Besides that it's pretty straightforward. Once you get to Pink Bean the challenging part begins for your party. After 90% HP Pink Bean will start to use damage reflect. The animation looks like this
Here's the DR animation
and he casts it roughly every 43 seconds. I find it easier and safer to keep track of it using 40 seconds, as it's simpler to do the math with. It lasts for 25 seconds so 15 seconds of him with no DR. Once it's 40 seconds from the time he last used DR everyone should stop attacking and the Phantom or Warrior in your party should crash. Once the crash is confirmed everyone should attack, but watch for the DR animation so as to know when the next 40 seconds is up. If you have a phantom they can use Pouvoir to steal Pink Beans's DR right when he casts it to give the party more attacking time. With timing DR being the only real hard part everything else is pretty easy.

I've only been on one Chaos Pink Bean run before and it didn't end up well. One guy stepped over the golden orb and everyone got mass seduced. This is one of the hardest boss in GMS right now with 14 forms of Pink Bean, each with 2.1 billion HP.

Solo:
Yea.....this probably isn't happening anytime soon. =P

Party:
Your role in this party is to simply dispel and buff. You're likely in an expedition with 20-30 people so keep your party all ready to go. Also be ready to Res on command from the expedition leader. I suppose you could try to attack a bit but our DPS already kind of sucks at PB due to having to use crappy skills like Big Bang and Holy Arrow. Again, make sure to not step over the gold orb, and only cross when the leader says to. Every status effect you can think of will get thrown at you. Potential Null, Stun, Zombify, DR, 1/1 and everything else. That's about all you need to know for Chaos Pink Bean. The order the statues get taken down is the same as normal Pink Bean so refer to that from the normal Pink Bean section, with the only difference being Chaos Pink Bean has a crap-ton of forms (14 to be exact).

Overview:
Von Leon isn't the most technically challenging bosses, but I find him to be quite annoying. The reason for this is his particular set of attacks. Von Leon will Dispel, Potential Cancel, Banish (Send you to another room), Damage Reflect when under 70% HP (7 second duration, 70 second cool down) and teleport around the map. The most annoying thing in my opinion though is the fact that he summons mini-castle golems. This normally wouldn't be too bad but when his HP is less than 50% he will start to consume these mobs, recovering massive amounts of HP. The good thing about Von Leon though is if you die, you'll simple get sent to a different room, where you're free to rejoin the fight.

Solo:
The only method I know of for a Bishop to solo him is brute force. Just keep spamming Angel Ray and make sure to watch for the DR animation. You can re-spawn but you'll lose valuable time, and re-buffing is annoying. When he summons the mini-Castle golems make sure to kill them as soon as possible. Besides that there's not much to it. It comes down to a pure DPS war between your Angel Ray and his healing. That being said the faster you can kill the castle golems the better.

Party:
There's two ways to go about this with a party. If your party has enough DPS, just go all out and attack him, making sure to watch for DR. If your party's DPS is somewhat lacking you can try and max out the spawn with boars. By doing so, Von Leon will not be able to summon anymore castle golems and thus cannot heal. Once maxed though only attackers with 1v1 skills will be able to attack because any mob attack will free up castle golem spawn. Choose whatever method fits your party and go from there. You as the Bishop don't really do that much as none of his status effects can be dispelled anyway. Just buff and Shell your team and help attack VL and the mobs.

Damage Reflect (Cooldown 80seconds (when solo), Duration 15 seconds, 50k)
Dark Genesis (AoE)
Poison Mist
Phoenix (AoE 10k per second)
Tornado (1k per second)

Overview:
Cygnus is one of the biggest bosses in Maple right now next to Chaos Pink Bean and she is killed far more often due to Empress Equips being quite desirable (The armors are dropped by the v2's and the weapons are dropped by Cygnus herself). The important thing to note is that while in Cygnus' Garden there is a 30 second potion cooldown. This applies to every type potion, whether it is a normal HP/MP potion or a buff potion. Healing familiars such as a giant snail do work, but they will use your 1 potion per 30 seconds, so it's usually not a good idea.
When you enter the garden, Empress Cygnus will awaken in the middle of the map. After you hit her around a couple times she'll summon the v1 instructors one by one. One quick tip is Cygnus wont use her Tornado attack or Phoenix attack if she is facing right. Her Damage Reflect lasts 15 seconds and and has a cooldown of 80 seconds, though she doesn't follow the cooldown when you're in a party.

During this phase Cygnus will summon the instructors one at a time, with the order being random. The important thing to note is that while the instructor is out Cygnus will go to sleep, making you unable to hit her and her unable to do anything to you. She will awaken after each instructor dies to be able to summon another. Be sure to look at the skills each Instructor can use above so as to not be surprised. After all the v1 instructors are killed the next step is to get Empress to under 50% HP. Once she gets under 50% she will summon all the v2 instructors at once. Kill those and then all that left is Empress herself. The annoying bit being that she will heal herself 35 times before you can kill her under the 10 minute marker.

Solo:
As far as I know, no GMS bishop has ever finished a v2 solo. What is possible though is to solo the v1 instructors. Once you enter the garden she will be in the middle. Hit her around until she summons the v1 instructors. The order she summons them will be random. To be able to attempt this solo will take a considerable amount of damage range and character control. The general strategy with this is to "kite" the instructors. By this I mean luring the instructor towards you while you move away from them. The easiest way to do this is to telecast Angel Ray backwards. Once you hit the end of the wall reverse the direction and go the other way. Continue the process again for each instructor.
The instructors that will probably give you problems are Oz, Irena, and Eckhart.
- Oz is annoying because she will teleport around the map. Just keep trying to telecast away from her and be aware of where she teleports to.
-Eckhart and Irena are probably the most difficult due to their excessive use of stun attacks. The only way to attempt to avoid this is skirting in and out of their range by telecasting. Irena also has a super knockback skill she will use. Being able to defeat them will require good character control along with potion management due to the 1 potion every 30 seconds restriction. There's not much else to say about this. It's probably going to be a lot of trial and error, but eventually you'll get it.

Party
V1's
For the most part your job here will be support. Make sure to buff and shell your party. Also make sure to heal them during the v1's and v2's, as it's safe due to no zombify from the instructors. With a party v1's should be pretty easy. In-between the v1 instructors when empress wakes up, she tends to use her pig transformation attack immediately from my experience. Due to this I highly recommend using your shell at this point. That way if your party turns into pigs, they'll be protected.
Once Empress comes out after v1's try not to use heal as she will zombify. You might have to heal to save a party member at some point, but be mindful and only do it when you feel it is safe. Keep in mind the zombify icon tends to lag.

V2's
As of a semi-recent patch it seems that the instructors can no longer be knocked back. This makes it pretty hard to control all the mobs. What your party will want to do though is separate Mihile from the other instructors due to his ability to use damage reflect when his HP is under 70%. If your party can successfully do this then you should have a tankier character solo Mihile. Mihile's damage reflect lasts 7 seconds and has a 70 second cooldown. Using this timing, you can also crash him. A Kaiser would probably the ideal character for the job, as Final Form ignores damage reflect and they have high damage output.
Your job as Bishop is to try and keep everyone free from status effects and alive. If you have Mihile separated from the rest of the instructors, then you will be required to teleport between the two attacking groups and keep them dispelled. Make sure to know the maximum range of your dispel because you ideally want to be far away enough that you can dispel your party without getting hit. If someone dies make a judgment with your party whether to resurrect them now or wait in case someone else dies.

Cygnus Herself
The fight here is a test of endurance. She will heal herself 35 times before you will be able to kill her under the 10 minute marker. Do your best as Bishop to keep everyone alive and dispelled. Be aware of where all your party members are and the status of their HP. When in a party Empress' damage reflect timing is completely random meaning she can use it whenever she feels like. For this reason, your party should only be attacking her when shes Binded, Crashed, or in the middle of an attack animation. The DR will always reflect 50k at the alive character with the lowest HP at the time. That's about all you really need to know. Just be patient and try to help your party the best you can.

You'll need 6 people in your party to attempt Arkarium. Fillers are ok though. Important things to note are that when you die inside Arkarium you will respawn in a separate room and there is no limit to the amount of times you can respawn though you will lose exp. One other thing is to remember to bring a mage (luckily you the Bishop are one =D). Weapon Attack users will hit 1's on the Netherworld Monks regardless of their PDR, so mages have to kill them. With the monks alive Arkarium will continually heal himself making it impossible. Be aware of the move's Arkarium can use that are listed above.

Solo:
Due to unlimited respawns this fight shouldn't be all that hard granted you have the DPS to take down all 2.1b of Arkarium's HP. The key to winning this fight is to never let the Netherworld Monks heal him. If they're left alive for long enough they will start to AoE heal 10m HP each Monk. Though if you have the damage to kill Arkarium within the time limit, killing the Monks should be no problem. Get familiar with all his attacks listed above, especially damage reflect and it's animation. While you don't get penalized for dying besides losing exp, rebuffing can be annoying, and it wastes time. Just keep attacking him and the Monks, and using Shell when he Screen Crashes.

Party:
For the most parties you as the bishop will have two main roles. The first is to shell your party when Arkarium uses screen crash. The other is to help eliminate the Netherworld Monks as fast as possible so Arkarium won't heal. You can attack as well if you damage is decent but be wary of DR since the animation is hard to see when everyone is attacking at the same time. There's not much to Arkarium besides that.

[header]Root Abyss Bosses[/header]
These are the new bosses that have been added to GMS during v.127. To fight these bosses you must have completed the prequest. The prequest is short and involves nothing more than talking to NPC's. To start, accept the quest from Neinheart that pops up on the left side of your screen. To enter the bosses area's you must be in a party of at least two, with that person physically being there (no fillers). To enter each boss you will have to acquire a Gnarled Wooden Key. You can buy these from the merchant in the Collossal Root area. You also get a daily quest that give you 5 free keys after you complete the questline.

Now onto the fight information. Almost all of these bosses have moves that seem to ignore magic guard (This is because these attacks seem to be %HP based) and are strong to every element. The HP you need in order to survive is kind of weird. Due to these bosses having %based HP attacks for the most part, you should be able to survive as long as you pot after every hit and position yourself well. Even with this though, every boss an 1 hit KO move or a move that does a massive amount of damage, though these are telegraphed and fairly easy to avoid. The trick I would say is to stay behind all the bosses, as most of the 1hit KO's are forward directional.

Every person in your party can die 5 times and respawn in the same room (Using Res doesn't use a death). After that you go back to the Colossal Root. You can attempt the bosses as many times as you like per day, but can only kill each once per day.

In this section I am only going to cover general strategy instead of the usual 'solo' and 'party'. This is because these are party bosses that require at least two people. Also even if you want to solo the strategy is pretty much the same as if you were in a party.

Von Bon is pretty interesting. First thing you need to know is that when he is standing on top of a white clock in the background the boss timer will speed up and decrease. If he is standing on a black clock time will go backwards and the timer will increase. His super knockback and stun attacks may get annoying but is manageable. Towards the end of the fight when his HP is around 5-10% he will start using a Tornado attack that will push everyone away from himself.

This fight isn't too bad but you really have to watch out for his projectile attack. It's this blue orb that he will send flying at you. It isn't a 1 hit KO but it is a %HP move so be careful. Getting hit by this than anything else will kill you. To avoid this you either have to get behind him or jump/duck over it, as the projectile travels the full screen.

Normal Attacks: Pierre's normal attacks have the property of stun and super knockback so watch out. A couple of his normal attack do seem to be affected by magic guard.

Teleport: He will teleport around the map.

Hat Drop: Drops a red or a blue hat onto your character immobilizing them. Spam left and right to escape. This will also give you a hat color after a brief duration.

Fire Tornado: Pierre will set his sights on a specific member of your party and chase after them as a fire twister. This leaves a path of fire behind him that deals DoT. Getting hit by this moves inflicts seal.

Umbrella Stab: This is Pierre's one hit KO move. While he is teleporting around he will occasionally stand still for a second and start emitting a black smoke. This is your signal to move out of the way. He will stab in front of him.

Strategy
What makes Pierre interesting is the hat system that he has in place. One of his attacks will drop a hat on your character immobilizing it. To escape you are going to have to spam the left and right arrow keys (Just like Ark). Once you are hit with this move you will get a blue or red hat on your head. When Pierre himself is red only players wearing the blue hat can damage him, and people wearing the red hat will heal him. When Pierre himself is blue, the opposite is true. Only people wearing the red hat can damage him and people wearing the blue hat will heal him. When Pierre himself is purple, anyone can damage him. Also be aware that his fire twister move he can use will seal a player if it does indeed hit them, and that the twister does leave DoT fire.

The last and only real thing you need to worry about in my opinion is his 1 shot KO move. As Pierre teleports he will stop for a second sometimes and emit black smoke. The safest place thing to do is teleport behind him if possible because this attack involves him lunging his Umbrella in front of himself.

Summons Heart Mirrors: These mirrors will seduce you. Kill them ASAP as they are dangerous. If a character who is seduced hits a mirror then they will die and the Crimson Queen will heal.

Summons Heart Bombs: She will summon these heart shaped bombs. Avoid them as they explode and have super knockback. They do enough damage to probably kill you in one shot (30,000 Physical Attack).

Claw Slash: She will slash her claws in front of herself. In this mode they will seal you if they hit.

Joyous Crimson Queen
Black Puddle: The Crimson Queen will spawn black puddles on the floor that will slow down your movement and attack speed. They will also constantly suck you towards her. You can teleport out of this through.

Claw Slash: She will slash her claws in front of herself. In this mode they will reverse your controls if they hit.

Wrathful Crimson Queen
Purple Fire Breath: This is her super high damage move. It is essentially a 1 shot kill for bishops as it does 50k damage. You can tell she is going to use this move when she start sucking in air as if she's charging. To avoid it teleport behind her. She can use this in conjunction with making your screen go dark so be aware of that, as you cannot see her charging.

Claw Slash: She will slash her claws in front of herself. In this mode they will make your screen go dark for 5 seconds. Apparently this darkness can be dispelled!

Sorrowful Crimson Queen
Zombify: Be sure not to use heal when you see this face.

Damage Reflect: You can tell she is going to use this when she claps her hands together. That is when you should stop attacking as she will put up her red force field next which is the actual move that reflects.

Claw Slash: She will slash her claws in front of herself. In this mode they poison you for 10 sec (2000 damage per tick).

Strategy
Crimson Queen can be tricky if you don't know what each of her faces looks like and does. Make sure to look above at the Moves section for the things that each face can do. In my opinion the two thing that are tricky are her Seduce and her 50k purple fire breath. For the seduce make sure to kill the mirrors when she summons them. The mirror will flash an image of the player it will seduce and start luring them towards it. If the player comes in contact with the mirror they will die and the queen will heal to full HP. If you let her do this you aren't going to win the fight.

Besides this the only other tricky part is the 50k attack. When you see her wrathful face and she starts to breath in teleport behind her. Everything in front of her will get hit by this massive attack. In general it's good to stay behind her at all times. This way if she darkens the screen you don't have to be worried about her charging a fire breath and hitting you. The puddles she spawns that make you stick aren't really that annoying either as they can be teleported out of. As long as you keep these things in mind the fight is straight forward.

Moves
Falling Rocks: Vellum will drop rocks from the ceiling. If they hit, you will get stunned. These are pretty easy to avoid as an indicator shows up on the ground.

Emerging from Ground (Tall): This move is when Vellum jumps out of the ground. You can tell where he is going to pop up based when you see a small yellow circle on the ground. Jump out of the way or else you will get super knockbacked and stunned. This version of the attack is when Vellum stand up fully. After this version of the attack sometimes Vellum will use his fireball attack which is a 1hit KO. He likes to stun you and then shoot the fireball so watch out. When he reburrow's after this you will not get hit.

Emerging from Ground (Short): This move is when Vellum jumps out of the ground. You can tell where he is going to pop up based when you see a small yellow circle on the ground. Jump out of the way or else you will get super knockbacked and stunned. This version of the attack is when Vellum stand up half way. He will not use the fireball attack afterwards but will use poison mist or green thunder when at low HP. When he re burrows after this you WILL get super knockbacked and stunned if you are next to him.

Green Lightning: Vellum will shoot down green lightning from the sky. This attack is a percent based HP attack. It seems to always do 35% of your HP. The poison mist is the result of this attack. He will only use this when at low HP.

Poison Mist: Vellum will spray poison mist everywhere that deals 4k damage per second. This damage DOES take magic guard into consideration unlike the other moves. This will happen after a green lightning attack. He will only use this attack at low HP.

Super-Jump: This is Vellum's other 1 hit KO move. You will know that he is doing this when you see a large yellow circle on the ground. Just run outside of it and you'll be safe. Vellum will jump into the air making an arc, and then reburrow.

Fireball: This is one of Vellums 1 hit KO moves. He will shoot a fireball killing everyone infront of him. Vellum will only use this after "Emerging from Ground (Tall)". Vellum will stand in place and shoot about 3 fireballs in front of him. Anyone hit by them will be 1hit KOed. He shouldn't start using this until his HP is around 80% or so.

Strategy
Like most of the Root Abyss bosses the strategy here is to stay behind Vellum whenever you can. This severely impacts the damage that he can do to you. The fight is pretty straightforward and the only real difficulty is dealing enough damage due to him spending most of his time underground. Whenever you see a yellow circle on the ground simply teleport behind him and then starting attacking from that side.

If you do get hit when he emerges and he is standing up straight there is a good chance he will shoot his fireball at you if he's under 80%. He seems to often shoot the fireball after the third time emerging from the ground, though this is not always true so just use this as a rough guide. This is also a good time to get damage in as he is above ground for quite awhile when shooting fireballs. His other one shot is telegraphed by a giant yellow circle. Teleporting away from the circle avoids this completely. Towards the end of the fight he will use green thunder and poison mist. This shouldn't be difficult either as the poison mist damage IS absorbed by magic guard unlike Vellum's other attacks. You just have to keep chipping away at his HP slowly during the brief durations he's above ground. One tip is that if you put a status effect on him(Poison, slow, burn, etc) it makes it a little bit easier to see where he is underground as he moves around.

Thanks to everyone I've talked to that has helped me with get information (you know who you are =P). Also thanks to the countless Bishops over the years who I've talked to and watched bossing videos of. This guide is a accumulation of things I've learned from them along with things I've discovered along the way.

I'm pretty sure it is actually %HP but it seems weird how it goes about doing it. It seems it always leaves you with just enough HP that you'll die from the next thing that hits you. I'll look into it though and update the guide according since I want a more definite answer.
U might want to check ur info on Von Bon's timer because from my experience, the timer is not exactly 15 min (actually around 8 ish min instead)
You are correct. I accidentally put it as 15 when pasting in the timers due to the other 3 Root Abyss bosses being 15. Thanks for catching that.
I updated the Pink Bean solo section a bit now that it's actually possible to solo.
Yay!

Just some pointers:
- Autopot doesn't work for DR I tried to do that with my pets (hp and mp auto, I tried both ginger ales and potion pot, but nothing worked >.< ) so you have to be careful even if you do have enough hp to tank it.

- the 33k hp is definitely helpful but like you said, it's not completely necessary. I'd recommend people trying with wheels (or just be careful when heaven's door is down) and I think you can still finish the solo in time if you kill the statues fast enough. I had around 20 minutes leftover, and I goofed off a lot at the beginning, so I think there is room to be conservative with the main PB fight.

Also since the thread's hit max length I have to pick and choose what to take out and add until I can somehow get this to be a guide.

If anyone want's some info on the Area Bosses I had to remove for space, I added the full guide with pictures to my blog which you can find here:

You can right-click Righteously Indignant on the top of the screen to turn it off and then Hero's will out of seduce, I've done it before. Also, @OmnipotArc solo'd Pink bean so you might want to edit the thread.
Another thing you might want to add is that Heaven's door has the range and power to OHKO Horntail, but as of now it's impossible until damage cap gets raised to 50m.

I just updated the guide with a small Hyper Skill Build. My guide has hit max length so I couldn't explain the choices really so I'll do that here.

The passive stat boosts are pretty simple. Get the 4 good ones Int, Crit, Health and Mana. The last 2 points don't really matter but LUK, Wep Def, Speed and Jump seem the best.

For passive skill boost he following 7 are the only ones you should be considering.
Holy Magic Shell - Extra Guard
Holy Magic Shell - Cooldown Cutter
Holy Symbol - Experience:
Holy Symbol - Preparation
Holy Symbol - Item Drop
Advanced Blessing - Ferocity
Advanced Blessing - Extra Point

Increasing shell's buff duration is not here because you almost always run out because of hits rather than time. If you're under 200 get HS EXP instead of HS preparation (unless you boss a lot) and reset it after. The only debate really is between Extra Guard vs 30% drop. As far as bossing goes I think the Guard+2 is better so I went with that. Let a phantom in your party use their drop skill instead.

Active Skills/Buff Skills
You get enough points to get all 3 skills.

Heaven's Door: (MP Cost 500, Enemies Hit: 15, Damage: 1000%, Number of Attacks: 8, protects allies from one KO. Cooldown: 180 sec, Max Damage: 9999999)
This skill is crazy useful. It hits for a bunch of damage and only has a 180 sec cooldown. When you use it every party member in the area, including yourself, get a buff that doesn't go away until you die or logout. If someone with the buff happens to die you get instantly resurrected and the buff disappears.

Epic Adventure: (MP Cost: 100, Duration: 60 sec, Damage: +10%, Max Damage: +50000, Cooldown: 120 sec. Only applies to Explorer class within the party.)
Every Adventurer gets one of these. The only thing to note is that this buff stacks with other instances of itself. So if you have a party of 6 explorers you can have 6 epic adventure's active at once.

Righteously Indignant: (MP Cost: 100, Magic ATT: 50, Monster DEF ignored: 20%, Damage: 20%, Number of Attacks: +1, Max Damage: +100,000, Attack Speed increased by 1. Only works with Teleport and Angel Ray)
This is our best offensive buff, as it gives us so much. The skill description describes it pretty well and as it says only AR and teleport can be used. This is a toggle skill so put it on a comfortable key and get used to switching it on and off fast. During boss runs trying to attack with this along with buffing your party can prove challenging at first. Because of this I've started to carry around all cures as well, as you can't dispel while in this. Having all cures saves some time if you only got affected. Lastly be careful with seduce. If you get seduced with this on you won't be able to use Hero's Will unless you right click the buff on the top right to cancel it. Thanks @JustAnotherUser for that tip.

Now actually having tried the solo:

I cannot stress enough how important it is during Ariel to use Heaven's door (yes it does work on her) at maximum infinity and with Terms/Conditions. For me it did like 64m, which is 32 telecasts of energy bolt. HUGE TIME SAVER!

But I wouldn't try without level 100 willpower and a status resistance potion, because otherwise the status' will get in the way too much
Yep! several bishops in kms used it to kill all the arms in videos!

Here's the real question: Does heaven's door have the range to kill the entire HT body?
A kaiser can kill HT in one move with Majesty of Kaiser, which is 8 hits at 1000%; meanwhile Heaven's door is also 8 hits but at 1200%

A bishop with maybe 400k-500k? (probably higher) range should be able to hit max on heaven's door, so if heaven's door has the same range as Majesty of Kaiser, theoretically a bishop can 1hko HT!
According to what I read from SP's extractions, Heaven's door has the same range as that Kaiser attack, so yeah.
You can do that right? with infinity and Terms and conditions? I remember you capping when AR only hit twice, I have my hopes on you
@WeatherProof: I think you should mention where to stand during the HT fight. For example, if you stand on the top left platform on the right side of the main cave, you can hit all 3 heads at once. Stance helps a lot since Wyverns tend to come and hit you a fair bit though. Also if you stand on the platform to the left of the bottom of the top right rope, you're able to hit the wings, left arm, and the two leftmost heads. Although, this means you'll be killing the left arm slower, since its hitbox moves a bit, so there are times when AR won't hit it, it's still much more efficient if you deal enough damage such that it isn't a real problem to begin with. Just makes the overall fight much quicker.
Yea just as @gothreego and I said above, this is where you're getting confused. The pictures for the faces I have listed are correct. You seemed to have gotten them mixed up.
Just a few pointers that I have noticed from personal experience from facing Vellum:
-Vellum usually starts the 1hko attack after his HP has been reduced to around 80%. Before that he will only come up and show himself for a few seconds until he goes down again.
-You should probably include that the yellow circle on the ground is much bigger for when he jumps through the air. He will hit anything that is within that yellow circle and you will die as it is a 1hko attack.
-It's strongly recommended that mercedes use Royal Spikes against Vellum. The symbol for Royal Spikes above Vellum's head will show up underground as well, so it's easier to track him while he's underground. This way it will be much easier to dodge his attacks and get into position behind him to attack when he does emerge.

Other than that, very good guide. I have been looking for such a guide for some time .
Hi thanks for the advice =]. If you look in the vellum section I've actually mentioned most of the stuff you're saying already (Large yellow circle for 1 shot , using status effects to track him underground). I did have the percentage when he starts using fireballs typoed as 85% by accident, as in my experience it's around 80% as well. That's now been fixed.

This is : Sorrowful,Wrathful,Joyous and Simmering

@WeatherProof
Add the Super KB tornado move that Von Bon does when he stops summoning clocks at ~20% HP. I am fairly sure that it is possible to snipe VB with Angel Ray out of the tornado range because I can do it with Twister Spin.

Crimson Queen also casts darkness (the kind that makes you not see anything outside of a very small radius) when she has the face with the 50k breath.

I think you're confused about something. The queen section is perfectly fine.

I watched that video you posted and all the moves she does completely correspond with the moves I've had listed since I added her.
In the video:
Wrathful : Claws blinded, and she shot 1 hit purple fire
Simmering: Claws sealed and she summoned seduce mirrors
Joyous: Claws reversed controls and she summoned puddles.

This is exactly the same as what I had posted so I don't know where you're getting confused.
You might want to revisit the root abyss sections
they use an odd formula to calculate how much damage the MG-bypassing attacks deal to you

They take into consideration your class (magician, warrior, bowman, pirate and thief) and your maximum HP
I can take a hit from the chicken guy's projectile and I only have 56XX HP

And the queen does NOT cast zombify, it is super poison
Yea, the reason they bypass MG is because they're % based HP attacks. I added in a little sentence to clarify that. Also the sorrowful queen's claw attack is the super poison as I stated. She DOES zombify in addition to the poison, though it is a different attack not one attached to her claw.

Yea as a bit of advice, don't use Basil's monster page for stats, half the time it's totally wrong. All the numbers and skills for the monsters in this thread I've checked directly against extractions. Though it's still possible I've made mistakes, so keep letting me know if you think somethings wrong =].

Ok, so Mr. Basil finally fixed the filter for me so I finally updated the thread. It now has Abyss Bosses and Arkarium, along with the timers for each boss.

My guide has just about hit the maximum post length that I can have on Basil, so unless this somehow magically becomes an official guide I'm going to have to be selective about the content I add. To this regard I removed the information on the area bosses (Lyka, Pap, Manon) as I feel they are things people don't usually look for guides for. This also frees up a lot of space. From now on it will just be about major bosses that people do. If anyone still has a question about an area boss, just post here and I'll respond to it with the information.

Also @ClashOfPower I added in that bit about Vellum. It doesn't always hold true that he fireballs on the third, but it can be a reasonable guideline. He only does it when standing up straight though so staying behind him avoids the need to guess.
@WeatherProof Here's a tip for Vellum; when he's shooting fireballs, most of the time it's like the third pop out
like
1st pop out
2nd pop out
3rd pop out -fires fireballs-
This is effective almost all the time except when he decides to use the poison gas thing
And he starts shooting fireballs at around 85% hp I believe
I think he mostly shoots fireballs when someone stays in front of him,or maybe it was each third time?Gotta fight him
again.
I think he shoots them at around 80% too.
