@Miauri: how isn't that relevant?

in 2005/2006 there was barely anything to spend real money on.

not to mention NONE of it was game changing like it is now.

in 2006, you could never spend any money at all and still be at the top.

and there was no reason to spend money then unless you wanted to modify your character's appearance.
now, you may argue that the reason was that the game was fresh, and they hadn't had the time to put more things in the game to buy, but you can't even deny that the succes of the game went to their heads.
they probably noticed how much revenue they had been generation just with clothes and hair coupons, that they decided to just go completely overboard and started throwing in items that would make the game easier.

then they started adding items that were basically a gamble so that players would keep buying it over and over and thus, they would profit.

Was it smart? It was genius. they've made billions since.

was it greedy? of course, it's a business.

but the question becomes, what has it done to the integrity of the game.

i feel saddend that so many gaming companies aren't more passionate about what they do, but rather what they get out of it.

either way, this is just my two cents.
@Wordolio: Maybe I should make a game just like maplestory, run a giant corporation (like nexon), have tons of servers and employ hundreds of workers and get paid in hugs and thank yous. Am I right @Miauri?
Maple needs to be constantly updated and revamped to keep up with consumer demand. No one wants a repeat of Maplestory Brazil where it was completely utterly destroyed by hackers and no new content, just left to rot till it was taken down.
IF you played in 2006, you would notice the difference.
I did, and I don't see why that's relevant to anything I said.
That's what every single game or company is for. You think they made Maplestory for fun?
Excuse me no, that's what I tried to say.
There's obviously going to be a catch. they wouldn't make a huge game update like this for the player's enjoyment.

just like the big bang update, something this big will be an attempt to make money. I'm anxious to find out what they'll do.
The whole game was created to make money.
