How much Ram is needed for gaming?

I'm buying a laptop (laptop over a desktop because laptops are portable, and so are far more convenient for school) for the first time and I was deciding between this and this and I'm seeking advice because I'm not sure which one to get anymore, and of course, the biggest concern is whether 8gb will be enough for gaming and if it is, whether the larger battery on the 2nd laptop, along with its other features would make up for it, I really like the 1920x1080 displays on both laptops, so that's almost a must for me.

I'm mainly going to be playing some League of Legends, maplestory, watching videos, tumblr, twitter, homework, but I also want to play games like battlefield 3, and Civilization 5. The budget isn't of huge concern because there is not a gigantic difference in price; however, a cheaper laptop will mean I can more easily afford a headset with mic, mouse (I very much enjoyed gaming and just general use of my friend's Razer DeathAdder), and perhaps a portable battery charger?

With laptops, you sacrifice battery life for performance.

Sure, you'll be able to run games, but you won't be able to run them for long without charging it. Most settings are also geared toward conservation once the AC is unplugged. This means that your computer will run slower and your games will run at lower speeds than if your power was plugged in.

Gaming laptops are portable, but most are only for two hours.

Also RAM isn't too important compared to video cards and the processor.
8 GB of ram is enough for any game.

Depends on the game requirements. Most recommend 4 but I say 8 or higher.

Siberia V2 is a pretty good analog headset, but I'm not the biggest fan of its sound signature.
My thoughts:

8gb of RAM is enough for most people.

If you're gonna have a lot of big programs open (like me), then you might need 12.

The second laptop will be better for gaming, the video card is a bit better. And it has 12 gb of RAM, more than you'll ever need. The smaller harddrive probably isn't a big deal.

Buying a portable battery charger sounds pretty stupid. You should have the laptop plugged in when you're playing intensive games such as BF3. Otherwise the video card won't be running as fast (compared to having the laptop plugged in.] That, or the battery will be dead within 20~30 minutes.

I've never owned a headset made by SteelSeries, but they make very good products... Still, I can't vouch for it.

As for the mouse, I'm not really a big fan of Razer. Their mice feel cheap and junky compared to what I'm using now. I've owned a Mamba 2012 and deathadder, they're good, but not worth the price. I would recommend a Cyborg R.A.T. 3 or 5, or a SteelSeries mouse. They're pricier, but they're quite solid. I assume that, since you are buying a laptop, you will be taking it places? Both of my razer mice broke, one way or another, as a result of me taking them along with me to school. What I'm getting at: If you're gonna be taking your mouse+laptop with you, invest in a better mouse. Razer is good, but the damn things don't like traveling.
Too long; Didn't read: 8gb ram should be enough, the second laptop is better for gaming, headset = good, battery charger = bad, mouse = do some research.
Alright, thanks! I'll look into some other mice and I'll

Most games usually don't use more than 2GB.
