THIS GUIDE WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATED
Hey guys, it's been a good run (more than 2 years), but I've decided to drop this guide as of the new Gachapon revamp. I've already gone through one huge chair impact (the intro of the Chair Gach) and that wasn't fun, having to re-sort and change stuff, as well as add things...and so seeing another major change like this was a major deterrent for me to continue the guide.
So, you'll probably expect very little to change from here on in. I might (no guarantees) continue to post new chairs (and it won't be in table format), a brief description as to how to get it and the patch it came out in, but that'll pretty much be it.
I may try to pass on the guide to someone else...however the more likely outcome is that I terminate the guide in the near future.
TL;DR - This guide has been dropped.
This section will be pretty much the only section that may be added to.
GMS v1.19
-Halloween Pumpkin Chair - Gachapierrot
-Presidential Elephant Chair - Election Surprise Box (Presidential Election event)
-Presidential Donkey Chair - Election Surprise Box (Presidential Election event)
-Head of State Chair - Election Surprise Box (Presidential Election event)
-Zombie Hunter Chair - Trade in Masked Gentleman's Coins (Attack of the Zombies event)
GMS v1.18
-The Porcelain Throne - Magical Teapot
-Starry Night Chair - Magical Teapot
-Mysterious Power Elixir Chair - Magical Teapot
-Passionate Red Potion Chair - Magical Teapot
-Refreshing Blue Potion Chair - Magical Teapot
-Spiegelmann's Ancient Rock Chair - v1.18's Artifact Hunt
The majority of the information below is relevant prior to GMS v1.18.
Latest Update: Oct 5 2012, v6.1.18 - All work on the guide will no longer be continued, chairs from GMS v1.18 onwards will only be listed at the top, as well as a very brief description on how to get them. A list of past updates are available on the side, while major updates can be found at the bottom of the guide.
Only Officially Released Chairs will be listed. Chairs created in an illegitimate manner will not be listed until they are released officially.
To be honest, this isn't really a guide, but more of a reference, encyclopaedia and database all rolled into one big thing. If it really was a guide, it would be incredibly short, as there's only so much you can guide people in terms of chairs. Merchanting, collecting, sitting...that's it really. But chairs are really very straight forward, and for those items mentioned: Merchanting guides can be found all over the place, collecting is quite logical and ties in with merchanting, while sitting should be straight forward. So whenever you see the word guide, just keep this in mind: Guide really means everything on this page.
This guide relates to chairs only in Global MapleStory. The reasoning behind this is because from what I've seen on Basil, implies there isn't much interest in chairs from other versions of MapleStory. Also, I don't have enough information on other versions of MapleStory, such as Gachapon/Pigmy locations for chairs as well as which chairs have or haven't been released. However, I have added in links to chair databases with chairs from other versions of MapleStory, which you can find here.
As well as chairs, this guide also provides a bit of insight into the Gachapon system. The guide's updates are linked to patch releases, as new chairs usually are released every patch.
Ctrl+F is your friend. USE IT!
I must stress that if you already know which chair you want, use the Ctrl+F command on your keyboard to display the Find search bar, and then type in the chair you're looking for. It makes using this guide a lot easier instead of having to look through the entire thing. You can also use it to find the events associated with the chairs.
However if you're actually wanting all the chairs, or have no idea what chairs there are, forget you ever saw this.
Alternatively, use the contents section on the left of the guide for easier navigation.
In this guide, chairs are sorted under headings based on their place of origin, and then are listed in alphabetical order for easy access, excluding the Job Chairs, as they are listed in the order in which their respective jobs were released. All information unbiased is included, therefore what is not included are the prices, as they differ from server to server.
NOTE: In terms of chairs with numbers included in the name, they will be sorted based on the alphabetical spelling of the number.
This chair encyclopaedia uses various headings, which can be interpreted in a number of different ways. Here, each heading will be defined in relevant context for this guide. This should clear up any confusion in the usage of headings.
All or Most Chairs:
Chair - The name of the chair, with a link to an image of the chair if available. The image is what would be seen in the inventory.
Effects - The recovery and or other effects of the chair, if any. Generally most chairs recover HP or MP every 10 seconds for the character.
Trade ability - Relates to whether or not the chair can be traded to other players and dropped without disappearing instantly.
MTS ability - Relates to whether or not the chair can be traded in the Maple Trading System (MTS).
Sold for - The price the chair can be sold at if sold to a Non-playable Character (NPC).
Description - The description of the chair as provided ingame. Ingame, if one hovers their mouse over the chair in their inventory, the description will show.
Available from - Relates to methods which the chair can be obtained. When regarding Event Chairs, all methods are listed, including ones that can no longer be performed.
Other Notes - Extra information regarding the chair, such as level requirements, medal associations such as the Chair King Medal or time restrictions.
Side Notes - Extra information not covered by any of the above headings, such as a difference in the actual effects from the description, changes from database information upon release and extra notes regarding obtaining the chair.
Patch Release - The patch with which the chair was released. Patches relate only the Global MapleStory (GMS) patches.
Job Chairs only
Class - The name of the character class with which the chair is associated with. Generally the chair is obtained in the job class's tutorial.
Extinct Chairs only
Previously available from - The former method of obtaining the chair before the chair's extinction, with extinction of a chair meaning that the chair can no longer be obtained through traditional methods, not including trading with other players.
Reason for extinction - The reason that the chair became extinct, usually because of compatibility issues with a patch or a lack of people who used the methods and associated activities often.
Event Chairs only
Current Availability - Relates to whether the chair can still be obtained at this current point in time. Obviously, chairs listed as being Current will be available to obtain, however some chairs with their events long past may still be obtainable through traditional methods, such as Gachapon. This does not apply to Chair Gachapon.
Other Appearances - Relates to whether a chair was/is still available past it's event duration.
The concept of Permanent Chairs is not widespread, as until only recently there have been no chairs released ingame which are time-limited. However this changed when the Ascension patch went live, where the first of many time limited chairs will debut, and many more will subsequently be released later on.
These chairs are usually the first ones you will stumble upon when you begin your Maple journey. All jobs receive one.
NOTE: 'Scissors of Karma' or 'Platinum Scissors of Karma' cannot be applied to any untradeable chairs.
Current Jobs - Questline Chairs
Chairs under this section belong to jobs already released in Global MapleStory (GMS) as of the latest patch update. Up till the Evan class, all job chairs listed were obtained via the tutorial. The Resistance, Mercedes & Phantom chairs are obtained through quests exclusive to the job class which are not in the tutorial, while the Jett chair is obtained in a limited event quest. As of GMS v1.17, the jobs which do not have their own chair are the Cannoneer/Cannon Shooter & Dual Blade classes.
NOTE: Except for the Resistance class job chair, all job chairs are untradeable. Apart from the Explorer job chair, job chairs cannot be sold to an NPC. All job chairs cannot be sold in the MTS.

Current Jobs - Silent Crusade
Following the revamp of the Silent Crusade, Aran and Evan characters can now obtain chairs from the questline. These chairs are exact replicas of their respective Hero's Chairs, which were released in the Chaos patch. As of now, no other character classes have been able to receive chairs from the Silent Crusade questline.

Future Jobs
Following current trends, all future jobs that come to Global MapleStory (GMS) originate from Korean MapleStory (KMS) or are created exclusively for GMS. Chairs in this section relate to jobs that have yet to be released in either GMS Tespia (GMST) or the official servers.
NOTE: Chairs appearing in this section may not have all related info noted, and will be subject to change depending on how quickly information about these chairs and their respective jobs can be obtained. Text in italics is translated from the original Korean text unless an English translation cannot be properly derived.

These chairs can be obtained through methods not involving the Gachapon or other events. Although I say this, some of them require quite enduring methods in order to get them. But, as these chairs are here to stay forever (hopefully), you can obtain them at any time.
NOTE: 'Scissors of Karma' or 'Platinum Scissors of Karma' cannot be applied to any untradeable chairs.
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
Chairs which could previously be obtained ingame but not through events, but have had their original method of obtaining removed, can be classed as extinct. If tradeable, they can still be obtained through exchange via other players.
With every patch or even every server maintenance it seems that new chairs are released through events. These chairs are coveted by chair collectors who will do nearly anything to get their hands on these. If you do obtain one, and are not a chair collector, be aware these chairs will sell for a high price simply because they are generally limited for the duration of the event.
NOTE: As Gachapon is considered an event NPC, since the items that it gives change quite frequently, all chairs from Gachapon will be listed in this section. For more information on Gachapon, click here.
CHAIR KING MEDAL: Since Global MapleStory patch v1.12, the Chair King Medal has been retired. For a look at all chairs which have had an association with the Chair King Medal, click here.
NOTE: Current Availability does not refer to whether people are selling them in the FM, rather it refers to whether you can still obtain them via the traditional way of getting them such as Gachapon or various events.
NOTE: ALL chairs in the list that were previously available from Gachapon below may or may not be available via the new Gachapierrot.

GMS patches v1.10-v1.19
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
There are a few special chairs which are not available to obtain ingame, nor do they come from events. Currently there are three chairs so far that fits this category. These chairs cannot be traded ingame or through the MTS.
NOTE: 'Scissors of Karma' or 'Platinum Scissors of Karma' cannot be applied to any untradeable chairs.
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
Some chairs are in the database but for unknown reasons have not yet been released, and so they are unavailable to collect. However, they may be released in the not too distant future. Because they have not been officially released, their names can change at any time.
NOTE: Chairs here are based on sources, but even those sources may not always be up to date. As such, there may be more chairs than actually listed here.
NOTE: The Red Relaxer that has not been released is totally different to the iTCG starter set redeemable one. This unreleased one heals 50 HP and no MP and is also tradeable.
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
Although in the database long before their official debut in Global MapleStory, time limited chairs until only recently have never seen the light of day, with all chairs released being permanent for quite some time. However, with the release of the Ascension patch, the first of many time limited chairs made their way ingame, with many others following suit. Quite a number of these time limited chairs are exact copies of their permanent counterparts.
Like their permanent counterparts, these chairs can be obtained through methods not involving the Gachapon or other events.
2NonEventChairs:

Character must be married for 30 days to perform a Commitment Ceremony and must not have filed for divorce before or during the Commitment Ceremony. For more details, click here. Also available from Chair Gachapon Tickets. See here for more details. |
| Other Notes: This chair is time limited to 30 days. |
| Side Notes: Although in the ingame description, Love Chair is listed as recovering 45 HP and MP every 10 seconds, it actually recovers 99 HP and MP instead, thus becoming the first chair to recover an amount of HP and MP which is not divisible by 10. |
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
Event chairs have until recently always been permanent, with the Chair King Medal ones usually untradeable until the patch afterwards. With the debut of the Chair Gachapon Ticket, there are a whole lot of time-limited chairs, including but not limited to older chairs.
NOTE: Chair Gachapon Ticket chairs have been moved to another section.

There have been time limited chairs in the database for a long time, but for unknown reasons have yet to be released, and so they are unavailable to collect. However, they may be released in the not too distant future. Because they have not been officially released, their names can change at any time.
NOTE: Chairs here are based on sources, but even those sources may not always be up to date. As such, there may be more chairs than actually listed here.
NOTE: Links for some images are not implemented for the purpose of the chairs keeping their in game name.
NOTE: There is no confirmation as to whether or not the permanent variants of the chairs listed below are the same chair database wise, or are actually the originals, and like above it is simply assumed that they are the same chair, and are not the originals.
NOTE: ALL chairs listed below may or may not be available from the new Gachapierrot.

NOTE: Pigmy is the Gachapon equivalent in EMS, KMS & BMS (Brazil MapleStory).
Here are a few fun facts that you may or may not have known about chairs.
NOTE: Trivia here refers to Global MapleStory. All chairs referenced to are permanent chairs only and do not include any chairs from the Chair Gachapon Ticket or any unreleased chairs.

From GMS patches v0.86 to v1.11, a new medal had been released which was specific to collecting certain chairs. This medal was known as the Chair King Medal, and granted +8 to STR, DEX, INT, LUK, Weapon Defence & Magic Defence. Once the chair required to claim the medal was obtained, the NPC Dalair, found in most towns would reward you with it. The medal expired at the end of a month/a major patch, whereby a new chair would receive it. The Chair King Medal has been retired as of GMS patch v1.12.
All chairs which have the Chair King Medal association are from Gachapon. As of the current patch, twenty-two chairs have received the honour of being granted the Chair King Medal.
- Magic Book Chair in GMS patches v0.86 & v0.87 (June 16th 2010 - July 20th 2010)

- Ice Fishing in GMS patch v0.95.
- Cat's Love Chair in GMS patch v0.96. The Chair King Medal was granted to this chair awhile after it's debut. Later the chair was removed from Gachapon, but the medal still remained for the remaining duration of the patch.
- Desert Island Chair in GMS patch v0.97 (April 27th 2011 - May 24th 2011)
- Cake Chair in GMS patch v0.98. This is also the first Chair King Medal associated chair to be tradeable.

There are a select number of chairs that can be traded on the Maple Trading System (MTS). Though their numbers are far and few (Nexon doesn't bother with the MTS anymore really, let alone adding chairs to it), they include:
- Sky-blue Wooden Chair
- Red Round Chair
- Beach Chair
- Green Chair
- Blue Seal Cushion
- Pink Seal Cushion
- Gold Seal Cushion
- Grey Seal Cushion
- The Stirge Seat
- Skull Throne
- Dragon Chair(Abyss)
- Dragon Chair(Inferno)
- Giant Pink Bean Cushion
- Cuddly Polar Bear
- Christmas Gift Box
NOTE: The MTS is CLOSED at the moment.
Red Chair is also among those that can be traded on the MTS, but it has yet to see a release in GMS.
As of now, seven chairs can be stacked in one slot - Lotus Leaf Chair, Musical Note Chair, Hero's Chair-Evan, Hero's Chair-Dual Blade, Hero's Chair-Aran, Xerxes Chair & Von Leon Chair.
All chairs received from Gold Richie through the Version Up, Up, Up! event in 2009 all recover 60 HP each - Navy Velvet Sofa, Male Desert Rabbit Cushion, Moon and Star Cushion, Pink Beach Parasol & Red Designer Chair.
The following chairs are paired considering they look exactly the same. However they may have different effects.
-Navy Velvet Sofa & Warrior Throne
-Moon Star Chair & Moon and Star Cushion
-Beach Chair & Pink Beach Parasol
-Under the Maple Tree... & Underneath the Maple Tree...
There are 4 different couples chairs. These chairs need two of the same chair sitting side by side, facing each other in order for the 'couple effect' to take place.
-Amorian Loveseat
-Chocolate Fondue Chair
-Half-Heart Chocolate Cake Chair
-Komainu
There are a total of 5 different coloured seal cushions - White, Blue, Pink, Gold & Grey.
There are 3 different relaxers - The Relaxer & The Red Relaxer (35 MP), Amorian Relaxer.
There are 2 different 'coloured' chairs - Green Chair & Red Designer Chair.
Sky-blue Wooden Chair & Green Chair can only be sat upon after the character has reached level 6.
When first added to the GMS database, the Cat's Love Chair was known as the Snuggle Chair. The name change occurred with the chair's ingame release.
There are a number of misconceptions about chairs which I've tried to correct in this section. As well as that, frequently asked questions about chairs or just general questions about the guide are also included.
Q: This guide has a section on Future Job chairs. I thought you weren't covering other versions?
A: True, this guide does not cover other MS versions, but the Future Job chairs section is used to provide an insight into job chairs for future jobs to GMS, which at the moment predominantly are from KMS. If exclusive jobs from other versions are to make their way to GMS somehow, I will add them to the guide.
Q: Not all the chair images are on the guide. Why is that?
A: I extract the images personally, and the only two reasons that stop me from uploading the chair image is either the fact that the image is broken (even though it works ingame) or the chair image is composed of several smaller images that fit together like a jigsaw. If the latter occurs, then I have to piece it together which isn't as easy as it seems.
Q: Isn't this guide a bit pointless, considering it's barely noticed, let alone even known about?
A: It's true that this guide doesn't get a lot of feedback from the community. But that goes for a lot of the guides, generally only the ones relating to builds for jobs get lots of appreciation. Nevertheless, if people ever need something like this, it'll be here for them whenever they need it (hopefully).
Q: In EMS, chairs can be obtained from boxes from Premium Mini Dungeons; will we in GMS ever get them?
A: I wouldn't know. But from the looks of it, I doubt it, as we've only ever had one Mini Dungeon event and that was back when they were first introduced. You could say EMS players are lucky and personally I'd say its easier to collect chairs there, with chairs being much cheaper. However, it means that as a collector, you don't really stand out from the rest for having a particular chair.
Q: What are the rarest chairs, in your opinion?
A: Personally I'd say the TV Recliner and the Dragon Lord Chair are the rarest chairs. There ARE people that have them, however they number less than 50 I assure you. Another two have never ever been obtained (there has been no evidence to suggest otherwise), and they are the Halloween Broomstick Chair and the Legends Awards Chair.
Q: Can Ultimate Adventurer/Explorer characters get their job chair?
A: Unfortunately not.
Q: Where's the Maple World Gachapon?
A: I wouldn't know, but I presume it applies to all Gachapons...there certainly isn't a Gachapon in a map called Maple World.
Q: I saw a GM with a chair I've never seen before. Can I get that chair?
A: At the time you saw that chair, no. Perhaps in the future, yes. GMs have access to all chairs in the database, so they can pick and choose whatever chair they want, including ones that haven't been released. And yes, this includes Squeep, which is supposed to be a MWLB member exclusive chair. Excluding that particular chair however, if a GM sits on a chair you haven't seen before, there's a good chance it will be released in the future.
Q: Do chairs give other effects apart from HP and MP recovery?
A: In GMS, they don't. However in MapleSEA, there are a number of chairs which if you sit on them for awhile you can gather EXP from to be used at a later date.
Q: Do monsters drop chairs?
A: During the re-release of the Golden Temple event during the GMS Chaos patch, monsters inside dropped the Musical Note Chair. Also, with the release of the Chaos: Age of Triumph patch, the returning Monster Book revealed that the boss monster King Clang drops the Blue Seal Cushion.
Q: How often do new chairs get released?
A: At least one new chair gets released every patch. Sometimes one or more are released every week. Recently Nexon America has stated that they intend to update the game server to a new patch every few months instead of the previous tradition of updating it every few weeks. Which means patches will be much bigger. In terms of chairs, this can only mean two things: either there will be less chairs released, possibly one every few months...or there will be a number of chairs released over the entire patch/all at once.
Q: Are there Cash Shop chairs or Cash Shop chair covers (similar to Mount covers)?
A: There used to be a Set-up section of the Cash Shop, which would have provided Cash Shop chairs or Cash Shop chair covers but nothing was ever added into that section and it eventually was removed. So at this point in time, there are none.
Q: Can you use the Owl of Minerva in Free Market to search for chairs?
A: Sadly, chairs are not on the Owl of Minerva database, so you can't search for them using that.
Q: Which server is this guide aimed at?
A: Global MapleStory only at the moment, so the majority of the information in this guide relates solely to Global MapleStory chairs. Chairs from other versions have been dropped for the moment as there seems to be not enough interest in other version chairs, as well as the fact that I don't have enough info on other versions of MapleStory (in any case, if I were to make a guide for another version, I would need a lot of help). If enough interest in other chairs is renewed I may put them back onto the guide. However I have still added in links to chair databases for other versions of MapleStory, which you can find here.
Q: Chair prices! Where are they?
A: So, since I wrote a Chair guide, it can be assumed I know everything about chairs including their prices. WRONG! I gathered all this information from various sources, but personally I don't know much about chair pricing. Besides, chair prices vary from server to server and it is near impossible to list every single price for every single chair in every single server. I can give rough estimates, but I am deliberately leaving chair pricing off the guide. If you really want to ask me about chair pricing, PM me. Another suggestion is that for chairs that have the ability to be MTSed, search for them in the MTS and convert using your world's NX:Mesos ratio.
Q: I read on some Maple-related sites that there are Gachapons in areas beside the locations you put on your guide. How come you didn't add them?
A: I recently visited all the towns which these sites say have Gachapons and there are a number that never ever had them or they were removed. Also, the Gachapon section in this guide refers only to Global MapleStory, so even if there are Gachapons in other towns in other MS versions, they are not relevant to this guide.
Q: Will the 'Scissors of Karma', 'Platinum Scissors of Karma' or something similar be released for untradeable chairs?
A: For the job chairs, it is most unlikely this would happen. For the other untradeable chairs, from the way things are looking, it seems doubtful that one will be released. However, quite a few times Nexon has changed several chairs which were previously untradeable and made them tradeable, so it may happen to a particular chair you're after or wish to sell. Another Cash Shop item similar to this called the Sharing Tag allows for certain items to be traded once on the same account, but it does not apply to untradeable chairs (pretty redundant if they did it were applied to untradeable chairs if you ask me).
Q: Are chairs ever re-released or do they only stick around for one event?
A: There are several chairs that have been re-released in subsequent events after the first one. The Dragon Chair(Abyss) & Dragon Chair(Inferno) are great examples, having been re-released at least 4 times already. There are also chairs which are long thought to be not obtainable due to the fact they are untradeable but later resurface in a new event. The Kadomatsu is an example of this. Finally, there are also others such as the Amorian Loveseat which once released in Gachapon, are kept there long past the end of the event.
Q: There are many chairs in the Wanted section of the MTS, yet how come they are listed as not having an MTS ability?
A: I don't have the exact answer to this, but these chairs may simply not been fully implemented into the MTS system, thus they show in the MTS Wanted section. If you actually try and put them up, the listing won't show and you will get a message saying you failed to place the listing. In my opinion, Nexon's become a bit lazy with the MTS as it rarely ever gets updated. Honestly, don't get your hopes up that new chairs will be added to the MTS.

NOTE: Only major updates as well as the current guide version are included in this section. Also on my part, I cannot remember the exact version updates, mainly because I was focused more on the guide than updating history. For more recent update history, you may find it on the sidebar by clicking this link.
Around the time before the 4th major update to the guide was made, I established a systematic update numbering system, which works like this:
1st Digit Set - Major updates. Generally large changes are made to the guide, such as entire revamps.
2nd Digit Set - Moderate updates. May include adding of a few sections and or considerable changes to sections.
3rd Digit Set - Patch number. Relates to the GMS patch which the guide is updated to. When the patch reached v1.0, a new digit was added to the 2nd Digit Set and the 3rd Digit Set reset to zero.
July 7 2010, v1.0 - Guide first established via thread A Guide To Chairs and How to Get Them.
July 22 2010, v2.0 - Guide upgraded to Tofu Tags guide.
Oct 2 2010, v3.0 - Chairs from other versions removed, guide tables revamp.
Feb 24 2011, v4.0.95 - All tables moved into quotes to make the guide less clogged up. Original quoted chairs from KMS removed. New Event Chairs and Returned Event Chairs section merged into Current Event Chairs.
July 19 2011, v5.0.99 - In Summary notes moved to front of their respective sections, longer descriptions quoted. Mini Guide removed. Entire guide tidied up in general. All Korean chair tables removed. Future chair info from KMS Tespia will be translated to English.
Apr 21 2012, v6.0.09 - Event Chairs section reorganised into patch generations in multiples of 10. Event Chairs generations listed alphabetically. Patch Release dates have been added for most chairs.
Oct 5 2012, v6.1.18 - All work on the guide will no longer be continued, chairs from GMS v1.18 onwards will only be listed at the top, as well as a very brief description on how to get them. (Latest Update)
