Guide Misc.
Wow weird how this was a thread about Evan classes, now it is a guide about Mages!

I don't mind it all
If I am going to help one kind why not help all right?

It all started with one sentence and it just grew and grew.

Since there is a few common questions on what people should do, I might as well help out.
Also some people are new to the INT build class, so this is a good reference to have.

^There are somethings you must know as a Mage

-> For Blaze Wizard, Evan and Battle Mage they can wear, hold, use any items that a Magician can use.
-> For Blaze Wizard Skills such as Fire Pillar, Flame Gear, and Fire Strike are Wand or Staff only skills.
-> Unlike Magicians and Blaze Wizard, the Evan class can only use Attacking Skills with Wands or Staffs only.
-> Also all Evan Buffs are Wands or Staffs only, exception is Magic Guard that can be used with any weapon.
-> Unlike all other mages Battle Mage can only use Staffs when using Attacking Skills.
-> Magicians (I/L, F/P, Cleircs) has no restrictions, all skills work with 1 hand weapons, some skills work with 2 hands weapons.

A Magician clothing/weapons are able to be bought every 5-10 levels.
Clothing can be bought at Level 8, 13, 18, 23, 28, 33, 35, 38, 48, 58, 68, 70, 78, 88, 98, 108, 118.
Staffs can be bought at Level 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 43, 45, 51, 52, 55, 58, 64, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 92, 95, 100, 102, 103, 110, 120, 163
Wands can be bought at Level 8, 10, 13, 18, 23, 25, 28, 33, 38, 41, 48, 50, 54, 58, 60, 64, 68, 70, 78, 88, 98, 108, 118, 130

What’s the difference between Staffs and Wands?

The only difference between these two is the graphic length. A Staff is longer than a Wand, but they both have the same effect.

Does speed on weapons do anything?

If you look at weapons they have 3 kinds of speed : Slow, Normal, Fast.
The “Speed” of the Staff/Wand is NOT related in any way to the Casting Speed.

The only exception is the F/P Mage 3rd job skill Explosion and Battle Mages.

F/P Mage Explosion : There's only a slight difference between casting Explosion with a Staff and a Wand. There is a larger difference between casting Explosion with fast speed Wand and a normal speed Staff though.

Battle Mages : Speed for Battle Mages does make a different on how fast you hit the monsters.
Here is a video of a Battle Mage comparing Reverse Aeas Hand (slow) with Elemental Staff 3 (Fast).

Is there requirements to use these equipments?

To wear the use these you must have the right requirement. Since Magician, Blaze Wizard, Evan and Battle Mage use INT and LUK, while INT is the primary stat you want to keep your luk low as possible.
The (Auto-AP) formula is Level+3=LUK and rest in INT.

Is there is any alternatives for Magician who want to be statless?

Since Statless are unable to wear/use all the stuff that a Reg.LUK Magician will have, there is some alternatives you can use.
The only clothes that are available are Common and any Magician Clothes that fit on how much LUK you got from your gear.

When shopping (both build) you should look for stuff that increases your Magic.
Since Magician, Blaze Wizard, Evan and Battle Mage is an INT build it does not use the Weapon Attack for damage, it uses Magic Attack.

The more Magic Attack you have the more damage you do.

^Behind the Mage Power!

Back as I stated on top the Auto-AP and the gear that is available to us recommends that we use INT and LUK.
(The (Auto-AP) formula is Level+3=LUK and rest in INT.)
So if that is the case STR and DEX should be LOW as possible (the lowest it can go is 4).

Now you wonder what are the hidden values and what does it do to an Magician, Blaze Wizard, Evan or Battle Mage.

The values you have to read it depends on the version you play.
Since there is many kinds of MapleStory Versions out there.

The original version is called Classic MapleStory.
The updated version is called MapleStory Big Bang.

There has been few main patches during MapleStory Big Bang
One is called MapleStory Chaos.
The after that is called MapleStory Jump or called MapleStory Ascension

There also been patches like Legends shortly followed by Advance of the Union/Alliance Unbound & Alliance Eternal and Justice but there is no major changes.

If you do not know what version you play you can look at the chart below.

^Inside The Mage In Classic MapleStory

[These set of values for Classic MapleStory.]
INT hidden values (Classic MapleStory)
1 INT = 1 Magic
1 INT = 1 M.Def
1 INT = 1 Hands
1 INT = 1/10 Accuracy (10 INT = 1 Accuracy)
1 INT = 1/10 extra MP when Level Up (10INT = 1 extra MP when Level Up)
INT also plays a roll on Magic Accuracy

LUK hidden values and what does it do (Classic MapleStory)
1 LUK = 1 Hands
1 LUK = 1/10 Accuracy. (10 LUK = 1 Accuracy)
LUK also plays a roll on Magic Accuracy

What else does LUK do with Magician, Blaze Wizard or Evan?
Since INT = LUK when it comes to Hands, in Accuracy, in Magic Accuracy

The only major roll that LUK plays on in Magician, Blaze Wizard and Evan is:
that it makes us wear/hold more gear than the one who has less LUK
As you will see in the bottom that players with the INT and LUK build have LOTS of Equipment to choose from

LUK also plays a big roll in the Magician, Blaze Wizard and Evan death formula.

About Magic Accuracy (Classic MapleStory)
Unlike other classes Magician, Blaze Wizard and Evan do not use Accuracy they use Magic Accuracy.
Magic Accuracy is hidden to players in Classic MapleStory.

Magic Accuracy Forumla is based on Int, Luk, and your level.
Right now there is no Magic Accuracy stat equipments.
Equipments that give Int/Luk will help to boost your Magic Accuracy.

To increase your Magic Accuracy, you get more Int/Luk and/or level up.
The more funding you pour into Int/Luk equips the more Magic Accuracy you will have.

To find out if you have enough Magic Accuracy to hit the monster Download this to your computer
Once downloaded you can always find it on your computer.
The location may vary depending what Operating System you use, and what Internet Browswer you are using.

^Behind The Mage In MapleStory BIG BANG!

[These set of values are after Big Bang.]
If you played the Classic MapleStory then here is one thing you have to do... FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!
The MapleStory Big Bang hidden values/formula is complete different than Classic MapleStory!

In Classic MapleStory there were mostly hidden values. 1 stat (INT or LUK) did certain things while others had no effect.
In MapleStory Big Bang it is different and uses massive amount of formulas.

So lets get started!

Magic Damage Formula (MapleStory Big Bang)
Max: Multiplier * ((INT * 4) + LUK) * (M.Attack)/100)
Min: (Base mastery + Mastery skills) * Max

->The base mastery is 25%. Normal mastery gives another 50%.

->The Multiplier depends on your type of weapon. Here's a list of weapons and multipliers that works with mage class.

Thanks to the team in Hidden-Street they have made a calculator where we can input numbers to get the results
http://global.hidden-street.net/character-damage-calculator

NOTE: ONLY WANDS AND STAFF ACTIVATE MAGIC ATTACK! EVERYTHING ELSE ACTIVATES WEAPON ATTACK!
I put the non wands and staff due to small population of STR mages.
WeaponMultiplier
1H Sword1.2
1H Axe1.2
1H BW1.2
Dagger1.3
Wand1
Staff1

X int = Y magic attack
In MapleStory Classic we saw that 1 INT = 1 Magic Attack.

Well if you want to know what it is after Big Bang... short story, there isn't.
Chema explains why this is not possible.
Warning: TL;DR version at the bottom
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Anyone who tells you:
X int = 1 M.Att is nothing but BS

The formula for your magic range is
Max = ((INT*4)+LUK)*(M.Attack)/100)
Min = (Base mastery+Mastery skills)*Max

Being
A = ((INT*4)+LUK)
B = (M.Attack)/100)

That being said it's easy to see that A and B grow exponentially, but A's growth curve is more steep than B's
But since A and B multiply to one another (A*B) the best thing to do is to get closer to 1:1 ratio of INT:M.ATT while keeping INT and M.ATT on the highest possible value

Due to the nature of this game, it's easier to have a higher value of INT than M.ATT
So go figure which one plays a bigger role in the long run

Conclusion
INT and M.Att cannot be compared by a constant value
The closer your M.ATT gets to your INT, the least effect each extra M.ATT will have
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
TL;DR
To know your ratio of INT:M.ATT you must follow 2 easy steps:
  1. (Your current INT) / (Your current M.ATT) = X
  1. X INT = 1 M.ATT

Every time your INT and/or M.ATT changes, you must do that^^^^ to know your ratio of INT:M.ATT

About Critical Damage (MapleStory Big Bang)
Every class now get critical damage, really nice if you get a critical you will do more damage then normal damage.

There is 3 different kinds of numbers in the critical damage forumula
  1. Critical Rate = The chance of you hitting a critical attack.
  1. Minimum Critical Damage = The minimum critical damage you can hit (in precentage).
  1. Maximum Critical Damage = The maximum critical damage you can hit (in precentage).

Everyone starts with
5% CritRate
20% minCritDmg
50% maxCritDmg

Things to know about Critical Damage
"Minimum Critical Damage" cannot exceed "Maximum Critical Damage".
Most critical skill increases the "Minimum Critical Damage".
Sharp Eye is the only skill that can increase "Maximum Critical Damage".

Formula (all skill numbers are in percentage) = Skill damage * Critical = Critical Damage

(ie: Skill has 200% damage and you have 50% critical. so 200%*1.50=300% damage if it is a critical damage.)

About Magic Accuracy (MapleStory Big Bang)
PLEASE NOTE: WHEN HITTING A MONSTER TWO THINGS HAPPEN!
FIRST THE MISS RATE IS ACTIVATED, IF YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS THEN THE ACCURACY COMES IN PLAY!

Magic Accuracy is visible to the player.
The forumla for it is very simple.

BBD:
MISS-rate (MapleStory Big Bang)
Every class gets a MISS-rate.
Simple forumula.

HitRate = Square Root(Your Magic Accuraccy) - Square Root(Monster Avoid) + 100
Every level you are below the monster, there is an extra 5% MISS-rate.

Summary: To 100% hit a monster, you have to be at or above it's level and your magic accuracy should be the same or more as the monster's avoid.

Monster is same level as you or lower look at the Magic. Accuracy Formula

Monster is 20+ level higher than you = 100% chance to Miss

^Death Formula For The Whole Magician Family (Classic/Big Bang)
This is the Death Formula for Classic MapleStory and MapleStory Big Bang.
The formula is different in MapleStory Chaos.
Death % Loss = 5+20/LUK

4 LUK = 10% loss
5 LUK = 9% loss
6 LUK = 8.33% loss
10 LUK = 7% loss
15 LUK = 6.33% loss
19 LUK = 6.05% loss
20 LUK = 6% loss
25 LUK = 5.8% loss
90 LUK = 5.22% loss
100 LUK = 5.2% loss
200 LUK = 5.1% loss
1000 LUK = 5.02% loss
In Town/PQ = 1% loss
In CPQ/Dojo = 0% loss

In Chaos new stats called "TRAITS" come out.
The Trait called "Ambition" determines the % we lose.

^Ultimate Adventure Skill
So if you have a level 120 CK you can make something called an Ultimate Adventure.
If you choose the mage path you can pick from Ice/Lighting Wizard, Fire/Poison Wizard, Cleric.

The unique skill they will get is called Flame Gear.
Different jobs will get different skills, All Mages get Flame Gear.

What does Flame Gear do.
It makes this

any monsters in the attack loses damage.

Flame Gear for Ultimate Adventure is max level is 5.
Each 10 levels, the skill will rise 1 level. Max skill level will be reached at lvl100 of the Ultimate Adventurer.
Level 1 - 31 MP, Initial damage 100%, Flame Gear for 11 seconds, Burn damage 3 seconds, 42% damage per second.
Level 2 - 32 MP, Initial damage 135%, Flame Gear for 12 seconds, Burn damage 3 seconds, 44% damage per second.
Level 3 - 33 MP, Initial damage 170%, Flame Gear for 13 seconds, Burn damage 3 seconds, 46% damage per second.
Level 4 - 34 MP, Initial damage 205%, Flame Gear for 14 seconds, Burn damage 3 seconds, 48% damage per second.
Level 5 - 35 MP, Initial damage 240%, Flame Gear for 15 seconds, Burn damage 3 seconds, 50% damage per second.

FAQ: I am a high level Adventure can I get this?
Yes you can, at level 70 you will get a prequest, once you are done the prequest you can do the quest to get Flame Gear.
Once you get the skill it will go in your skill book automatactily at level 1.
When you level up 10 times you will get another quest to raise it skill points to level 2.
You keep getting the quest until you max the skill (Max level is 5).

FAQ: I am a Evan or Battle Mage can I get this?
Sorry this is an exclusive Adventure skills, only Ice/Lighting, Fire/Poison, Cleric/Priest/Bishops can get it.

Is it worth it?
Well lets look at the long term for the skill
I/L Arch Mage + Flame Gear = Chain Lighting is does almost the same amount of damage, and Chain Lightning is faster.
F/P Arch Mage + Flame Gear = Does nearly the same damage as Paralyze, and Paralyze is faster.
Bishop + Flame Gear = Damage + healing, but 15seconds for 50% damage is short and weak to be useful.
- Sorry if it sounds very negative.

^Monster Elemental Weaknesses
Certain monsters are weakness to certain elements.
There are also monsters resistance to certain elements.

If you attack a monster that weak against your element your damage will be higher.
If you attack a monster that is resistant against your element your damage will be lower.

You can find what monsters are weakness with your element by visiting

Why? There is unlimited amount you can buy if you want to scroll something.
Also +10 Speed is better in the long run for Magicians. Speed bonus and teleport = fast.
If you are wondering how does speed help teleport, when you teleport there is a 1 second delay, so you walk a few steps before teleport, if you have a nice speed then the other person with teleport, you will see you are faster JUST by a bit, but it helps when you have to go somewhere fast.

(Note that in GMS the Element Weapons are glitched, and this section is based before BB or if they get a fix.)

For Ice/Lightning recommended is Elemental Staff/Wand 3 and 7
Alternative is Elemental Staff/Wand 4 and 8.
Wand if you are lukless and Staff/Wand if you are reg. luk.

For Fire/Poison recommended is Elemental Staff/Wand 1 and 5.

Why is Ele 1/5 recommended for Evan?
Evan has mostly fire moves. If you watch videos of high level Evan they show you they use Ice to freeze monsters, Fire moves to kill the monster and Dark to clear map or make monsters mad at them.

Why isn't recommended to Cleric/Priest/Bishop?
When Clerics/Priests/Bishops wear an Elemental Wand or Elemental Staff they get a 25% reduction on there holly attacks, so it makes you weaker.
An alternate is using any wand or any staff or even VIP Wand or VIP Staff.
