Depending on where you stand, it'll hit two. The way I train, killing two newts at once (probably 1.8x as good of exp as just sniping one, but requires more attentiveness), I use it to hit both. I've never really found octo to be *that* helpful, but meh, it's decent. The reason you have ice though, is that when you just use blank shot, the octo's unstun the newt when it hits the newt, causing you to get hit, probably knocked off, and maybe killed.

OT: Burst> 7 Ice > Octo > Finish Ice > Fire > 15 Gav > homing That's what I'm doing on my Second Outlaw. Octo is pointless (the way I train, as specified above) without ice. If you try doing my method without ice and using blank shot as well as using octo, you'll get knocked off.

I'll try posting a video to Basil if I deem it necessary at some point...
I'm with you on that one. Ice>Octo in almost every possible situation. In the time it takes you to summon Octo, you can use a couple more Burst Fires which will already outdamage Octo on its full time duration. The only time I would use Octo is when I run out of spawn, but when that started to happen, I start killing the 3 on the bottom right of the map.

Also, I would ALWAYS kill the 2 when I was sniping. The exp is so much better then only killing 1 and waiting for it to respawn.
@BlazeLeo Well, first of all, ice splitter has more range than BURST FIRE, that's a BIG plus.
It also has roughly the same lock-down duration as blank shot once it hits 5+ targets.

I'm GUESSING that the second newt is out of splitter's range.(Haven't gone newting yet)
IS is better to use at newts because around lvl 21 it has the whole 3 second freeze and it also lets you safely summon/use skills like gaviota and octo.
When it hits 5 targets.

Actually, it doesn't last LONGER than blank till you get ele boost in 4th job, but being able to lock down more monsters(6 as opposed to 3) is why it is used over blank shot.
really? O_O
why is it used then since at newt's you're basically sniping 2-4 depending on where you are on the map?
1 ice splitter freezes for like, only 2 seconds.
when does ice splitter freeze longer than blank shot stuns?
ALWAYS max burst first, regardless of situation.

After that, refer to the Outlaw guide, and scroll down to the "Newtie build".

Edit: looks like I was beaten to the chase.
for GSPQ should i add 1 ice splitter for freezing effect while maxing burst fire?

Reason for this build
(Quote Shrapnel) This Jr. Newties Build will allow you to train effectively on Jr. Newties starting at level 80.
From 80 to 94 you will only be able to attack from the safe spot behind the rope because of your low level of Cooling Effect,
but starting at level 94 you will have the option to train on the platform directly facing the middle grouping of Jr Newties.
You'll be able to freeze the first Newtie and kill the first two.

this is the build im going to use for newts to
i dont made this build
