Some people have different graphic cards and some of the graphic cards does not allow any fullscreen softwares to stretch all the way. Maybe you can fiddle around with the graphic options on your system.

Maple is/was a low resolution game, and when technology started to evolve the graphics became better hence you have the black sides due to high resolutions on your desktop/notebook. To fix it, either lower the settings on your screen resolution or, go on your desktop/notebook manufacturer's website and download the graphics card needed to upgrade from your current one. I had this problem too when I reformatted my notebook, but I went to Intel's website and downloaded the graphic chipset, and viola, I no longer have the black edges.
TLDR; find your manufacturer's website and download the graphic chipset.

Sounds like you're getting pillarbox bars on the sides of the screen when in fullscreen mode. It happens when the resolution of the game doesn't proportionally match the resolution of the screen. It's especially common on laptops, which don't conform to the more common aspect ratios. I had the same problem, since my laptop's native resolution is 1366x768. It doesn't bother me, so I typically run it as is, but you could probably just change your screen's resolution via control panel, or right-click the executable and change the display settings from there.

Keep it like that. Stretching aspect ratio the game out is awkward and ruins the integrity of the game in my humble opinion.
You can change the aspect ratio or something in order to make it fit the screen depending on your graphics card (software)
Beat me to it.

Do you have an AMD or Nvidia Graphics card? Have you checked AMD/Nvidia control panel to make sure that it's not set to "No scaling".
