Merchanting Internship

SketchyGnar Level 149 Scania Zero Transcendent
This may sound odd but I was wondering if anyone was interested in letting me follow them around and see what and how they merch. I have watched every merchanting guide on youtube even from some of the people I consider "The Greats" (such as CherryTigers, JuSt1ViDeOoO, Daboki, Kewra etc.). I just cant seem to get it. So I am asking to be a understudy of some sort, I am willing to make a character in any world and watch you as you merch. If anyone is willing to give this a shot let me know. Thanks

JuSt1ViDeOoO does MMB's every friday. I personally feel it's horrible and a waste of space. In my video about mushies, I explain why opening stores are bad when you cannot make the profit back. I didn't mention it in my video, but mastery books in a free market store is called throwing away your money. That's not to say that Mike does really merch. He is a real merchant, I just simply do not agree with his methods in MMBs.

Daboki received a tyrant belt from marvel machine. He didn't even know it was good. He sold it for very cheap and got merched very badly. Obviously not a merchant is obviously not a merchant.

As for learning how to merch...

You gotta learn to do your own thing. In the beginning, we all start the same. Begin and walk around the market, learn all the prices in 2 weeks. Go after items you see are lower than the real price. Then you're good. The hardest part is starting. Just do it. There's no need to get "merch lessons." Just do it. No one taught me, no one taught many of the "great" merchants. We all started from the same humble beginnings. I repeat. Just do it.

If you really really need the help, I do upload youtube videos. They're very slow uploads since I'm getting into Pharmacy School, but if you really are patient and you really have tried, then you can wait for my uploads I guess. After 3 more weeks or so, I will be back to a regular upload schedule.

@Kazno For a Lv202, it blows my mind that you haven't comprehended the gist of merchanting. I'm also going to assume (yes, I know
it's not good to assume) that you haven't taken any economics course yet.

Perfect and easy real example:
Every Christmas event, there's always people buying snow pieces for 5K mesos each ('cuz they're too lazy to collect it themselves).
You see someone late at night selling them for 2K each. You purchase all of his supplies of snow pieces. You bought 100 pieces; that is 200K mesos.
Next morning, you sell it to the people who offer to BUY them 5K each. That is 500K mesos. In result, you made 300K in profit.

Economics tip:
The Law of Demand says everything (in sales) is being constant.
Prices drop, Items sold increase. Prices increase, Items sold decrease.

So when people say: "Buy low, sell high", that is the most basic summary of merchanting, but you gotta have good prediction and
knowledge of whether the item cost will increase or decrease. If a new class is coming out that uses DEX, all DEX % items will increase in price.

To the thread starter, just because someone has a YouTube Channel and post merching videos, doesn't mean they're the best in that sector. The best people are almost always the ones that keep to themselves and focus on the one aspect, making money. The only rules you should follow are to buy cheap and sell for a modest price, or above average prices, if you can get the good Free Market spots.

Another rule is be aware of sudden fluctuations in prices, supply of items, as well as the demand. These factors can greatly affect your profit margins and the rate your item stock sell.

Also, as LordvGum mentioned, the sale of character names can be a profitable venture. I've sold well over 400 of my best character names, making well over 5,500,000,000 mesos (5.5B). This was between June of 2009 to October of 2010, so by today's standards I would have earned three to five times that with the meso inflation. Give it a try, if you have a creative mind, you can make a lot of money, especially if you become a trusted and reliable seller.
