getting an iPhone 4s

hello Basil, so i'm set on getting an iPhone 4s next week (yes ik it's probably the worst time t buy one)
i don't want data, but i know in order to have a smart phone you have to have data
i've been searching gateways to avoid not getting data, and i found upon unlocked iPhones...
my question is what exactly is an unlocked phone? x___x" the stuff i google on the web are pretty sparse answers...
you customize your own plan right?

Speaking from the experience people used to pay me upwards of $20 for me to jailbreak it for them because they just can't do it, and they have no clue that the pirating app even exists till I tell them. And then, to pirate iOS apps someone must crack it first, that means paying for it. And it is to my understanding that to pirate an Android app is as simple as downloading the vanilla .apk file which has no security measures against piracy to a microSD card, going to settings and installing it, do correct me if I am wrong.
Don't want to revive the flame war, but I'd like to point out the difficulty in pirating an iOS app is about as difficult as pirating an APK. Yes, you have to go through the "jailbreak process" to jailbreak your phone, and I'm not sure what types of people you associate yourself with, but if people can't Google "jailbreak 4.21 ios" or whatever version you they want to jailbreak, and follow the instructions on the first link, they're not going to be able to find free APKs and download them. So in the end, there is no additional "difficulty" in pirating apps for either platform. Not to mention, there's a really easy to get free In-App Purchase hack for iOS, and I don't see that happening for Android (because Google smartly hooked app purchases to a Google Pay account where you have to add a credit card for). So I'd say piracy on the iOS is actually higher than Android.

Android has always been the technical tweaking/experimental/not that user-friendly platform, Apple has been the elegant one. Apple is losing its edge though, because you can always focus on refining the UI easier than you can figure out technical improvements/problems to an elegance-based OS.
Do you know what the #1 thing that developers hate? Piracy; it takes the money from their wallets. And the #2 thing they hate? The fact that Android is on perhaps 100 different phones with different specs, resolutions, screen sizes, etc, which make it very hard for them to write a efficient app.

Speaking from the experience people used to pay me upwards of $20 for me to jailbreak it for them because they just can't do it, and they have no clue that the pirating app even exists till I tell them. The iPhone has 326 PPI, which remains pretty much the highest against all Android phones, while the S3 has 306 PPI. I said you would be a great salesman to clueless people for that reason of your wording, its an effective way of hiding faults.

The camera on Android is cluttered. They could probably write a Android Camera App for Dummies book on it because it has so many features people will probably never use or even know about. If I wanted that many unnecessary features, I'd go to the App Store and download one of the hundreds of camera apps that can do basically anything I want, but I don't need it so I don't.

We can argue all day about specs but when it comes down to performance, its how efficient the OS is. Like battery life, that is far too subjectional, so theres no point in arguing over it. You run Android, I run iOS, you can't compare the two. You play games on your S3 all day, I text all day, you can't compare the two.

Okay look, she said she's getting an iPhone, lets leave it at that. I'm tired of typing massive walls of texts. The Galaxy S3 and the One X are great phones in my opinion, can we call a truce?
well , do you work for apple or something ? XD , I really like android WAY more , like , I enjoy my Desire HD A LOT ! I rooted it and the performance is much better , my sister has a 4s .... I just don't like it , its true we all have different tastes , for me android is always gonna top iOS .... I think Android is revolutionary a lot of fools think that Android is a rip off from the iPhone while they do not know that HTC was the first to come up with the touch screen for the GPS navigators I saw it once on one of their official videos , you enjoy your iphone miss and I enjoy my HTC oh and the One X has 312 PPI

yeah well it's true , everyone has his own taste , I still don't know why would anyone go for an iphone .... the galaxy s2 is just terrible in my opinion the UI is EXTREMELY obnoxious .... I just hate it ! the S3 is much better ! about the nexus running jelly bean , was it running the official OTA update ? and which nexus are you talking about ? Galaxy nexus or nexus 7 ?

I really need help too deciding. I'm getting a Sprint family plan (finally after so many years.)

I've been debating over the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S3

I know the 5 is coming out, but that's like another 3-4 more months and I'm getting my new phone in a week.

I already have an android, and I really don't like it at all either... Running on 2.2.2(?)
And I want to buy an iPhone but I'm not sure.

I already have the new iPad so I don't think I really need an iPhone, but I just hate androids with my latest phone.

People are telling me to get the S3 but I'm not so sure.

The PPI of both S3 and one x is great , I did not say its better than the iPhone , I think the iPhone has like 346 while the one x has like 320~326 , The camera features of the Android are better ! , Android 4 is smoother and has better battery life since it gets the GPU to work more instead of the CPU , the S3 has a great battery life google it and read more about the jelly bean

Get an S3 or HTC one X ! ITS LIGHT ! GREATLY DESIGNED ! HD screens ! tough screen glass ! Fast ! MUCH better resolution than the iphone .... great pixel per inch ! great camera features of android 4 ! like capturing photos while recording videos ! and it only gets better on android 4.1 ! more battery life and smoother scrolling ! I recommend you these two devices .... they are spectacular ! TRUST ME ! the only advantage the iPhone has is a bigger AppStore but developers are starting to focus on Android now .... and apps are being released in the same time for both , also android's OS is being updated and enhanced A LOT ! whilst apple has kept the seem looking User interface for AGES ! no excitement , you choose ! I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LOVE THE ANDROID PLATFORM ! good luck just don't waste your money !

EDIT : AND THE S3 Goes for the same price or even less than the iphone ... apple just has a reputation that will be over soon !
You'd make an excellent salesman to clueless people.

The S3 is a really nice phone, but its light due to the fact that its pretty much all plastic, and the screen may be touch but it will crack and smash all the same if you're not careful, and the screen is actually fused with the glass now, just like the iPhone, and last time I checked it was nearly $200 to replace it, as opposed to as low as $50 for the iPhone. I do like how you say it has much better resolution than iPhone but only great PPI; here's the facts: it does have a better resolution than the iPhone, but still has lower PPI than the iPhone. The camera is 8MP just like the iPhone, and many reviews claim its nothing special, while the iPhone's camera has a bunch of fancy jazz that you can look up yourself. Android 4.1 is nice. Despite it's large battery capacity it most likely has worse battery life due to its large screen and power-hungry processor. Smoother scrolling...really?

Not to mention the fact that you're comparing a just-released phone with one thats a year old. iPhone 5 comes out this fall.

And developers are starting to focus on Android now? Did you know that piracy of Android apps is so bad that developers make apps free because they wouldn't sell anyways?

EDIT 3 : The HTC One x and the S3 both have 1GB of RAM while the 4S has ONLY 512 MB .... pathetic ... also The S3 has A9 processor while the 4S has A8 XD

As for unlocked phones, they're just phones that aren't locked to a carrier and doesn't come with a mandatory 2 to 3 year contract. They're usually more expensive, off the top of my head I think an iPhone 4S 16GB is like $650 from Apple, as opposed to it being $150-$200 from a carrier on a 2 to 3 year contract, data plan required. You have little choice over what plans you can get, and can't really customize. It's gonna run you $40/month at least, and you may get really small amounts of data like 500MB (which is meh).
Because android users are no different.

TS, the difference between any phone on a plan, and an unlocked phone is basically this;

- Phones with plans are cheaper, and come with the data plans, texting, and all that crap, but they are cheaper initially. Contracts expect in the long run that you pay more for the plans, usually a year. These kind of phones only work on the carriers you buy them for, so they are not as flexible as unlocked phones.

- Unlocked phones come with no plans, they only come with the phone itself. These phones are great if you want to try different plans on different carriers, but they are extremely expensive initially. For the iPhone, I think it is $500< or something.

If you get an unlocked phone, you could do whatever you want with it. So yes, you could just sign up for a prepaid plan or a dumbphone plan that is just calling and texting, just make sure you ask them for a Micro-SIM (costed me like $10) because the iPhone only use those.
