Gaming Achievements Thread

Have you achieved anything in gaming recently? What are your best gaming achievements?

Today, I beat a game that kicked my ass for more than a decade. This is probably my best and favorite gaming achievement yet : http://i.imgur.com/QhqkT.jpg

@ShiKage08:

I think it may be just where I live or how I grew up.

Anyways, killing somebody from point blank with a knife is different from killing somebody from like... 1 kilometer away with a rifle.

I'm still working on it...
(No kills in Metal Gear 3)

But I think another good one is 100% on Metroid Prime. The first one though.

I lost 5 times in a row in Words with Friends.

Got my 193rd medal in Black 2.
A few days back I caught a shiny Kyurem with the help of my newly earned Shiny Charm.
Well. Yeah, we have different opinions about achievements, but I never... really... spoke about what I did in games when I was in my young teens.
It would be more like ...

"Hey you wanna play CS today?"
"Sure."

And then.. we'd play some counter strike and not have achievements and just have fun.
It's culture shock. I guess video games are now popular to the point where kids would openly talk about their achievements now.

@ShiKage08:

I don't think killing anyone has anything to do with the lack of sensation.
It's culture shock. You know, I was gone for several months and came back to people saying "YOLO" and "gangnam style". I was shocked.
It's the same thing; to hear something like this is shocking to me.
They say killing another person desensitizes a person, making them not feel as though much else is as significant as they used to be.

Playing things like first person shooters with a friend is entirely different from playing a game from your childhood that has haunted you with its difficulty since you were a kid and finally winning.

Also, the gaming achievement talk has existed since the 1980s. I don't know how any of this should be a culture shock. Maybe it's just where you live.
Games are the bottom on the list to you

To some people it may be there top priority.

I mean I feel pretty damn happy about beating skyward sword in less than 20 hours than all the math and music awards I got.

Anyways..

The point is we have different opinions about achievements.
Well.

When you're talking about an achievement, some people just have different values for one over the other. When you grow up, you'll see that games are on the bottom of that list while other things start to matter.

I guess gaming achievements haven't mattered to me or any of my friends in a very long time. It's just culture shock, that's all.

@ShiKage08:

Well. I wouldn't call "work" an achievement.
Have you ever killed a man who tried to kill you? And got paid for it?

I think that's a better achievement than... a video game one. Like... getting 70 kills and dying only 1 time in a video game means absolutely nothing when you've actually killed a man in real life and lived because he didn't kill you.

It must be a grown up thing. Or something. I would feel happy to beat games, but I wouldn't consider it an achievement that matters. You know?
Have you killed a man? I could see where you lack sensation if that's the case.

I'd never kill a man, even if he tried to kill me. I'd do my best to never kill, only disable. Then again, I'm not in the military (yet). It's a different case in that situation. You're just kind of... forced to. That's even worse. That's what causes stuff like PTSD.

I broke 100 seconds on Minesweeper on advanced a month ago. Trying to make 100 seconds an average score. High score so far is 91.
I .. don't .. wow.

I didn't think people had "gaming achievements"

I play this game called "Life", and I think I've been pretty successful so far through hard work.
It sounds like someone leads a boring life if they can't feel a sense of accomplishment over anything but work. You should try playing some NES games. If you don't feel a sense of accomplishment after beating any of those games, there might be something wrong.

I would be able to beat Zelda II if they would add save states to the 3DS version like with Zelda I. Although I did beat Zelda I without save states or guides, and I'm pretty proud of that.
