Tips for basketball

Happy Thanksgiving you guys Anyway I'm trying out for our schools basketball team, but I couldn't tryout and its already first cuts. I talked to the coach and he said he wouldn't cut me so he could see me play. Now a lot of people are mad at me because they say its not fair which I can understand. I practice everyday for more than an hour and I was hoping you guys on basil have tips for me so that I can become even better! My free throw percentage is 63%. I just wanna prove to all the people that are mad at me that I actually would of made first cuts.

Thanks Basil and I hope you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Basketball is all about agility and hand-eye coordination. Constantly keep focus and always pay attention to your surroundings. Your teammates can teach you a lot just by looking.

Pass the ball to the nearest black person.
What i did over the summer was do layups with 5-10 pound ankle weights. That enabled me to jump higher, rebound better, and block. Alone from that i squated a lot of weights and did calve raises mostly. Also did about 2500 jump ropes a day with ankle weights and shot 250 free throws a day (really helps your shot form). Then do 2-4 miles a day jogging or running. As well as resistance jumping and benches (jump over bench side to side, platform resistance = being tied down with rope and jumping). So yeah main thing is increasing your stamina and strength. I also did benching (lifting weights). You dont have to be super macho man. Just do what you can. Key to it is reps. Like i would do 75 pounds 15 times, 85 13, 95 11. Similar to squats but more weights. Sure the football players called me weak, but hey im not dyimg after running one lap .

I went from being a sophmore benchwarmer on jv, to starting varsity as a jr this year.

P.S. drink protein shakes. Helps you grow and is helpful for when you do a lot of exercise (what basketballs about, pure running and not being laidback)

Also what i did for defense was, last year i would be flarfooted, but since i developed such high stamina, what i do is kinda jump up and down like a boxer and be light on my feet, that way i could jump to the ball faster.

If u have any specific questions feel free to ask. I myself want to keep improving even though i had improved about 1000% just this one summer.
Just wondering, how tall are you, what's your vertical, and what position do you play?

I really need to get ready for basketball season.

@OKCThunder Yeah Kd is the best I also like Kevin Martin. OT: Umm I take karate so I workout at least 2x a week, but at home I do push ups and I have a punching bag so I use that once in a while. I can drive but I need to be better at getting around people so do you have any tips on that? I can shoot 3's pretty well for a middle schooler that's not on a team. My ball handling skills are a little bit better than average because I do a lot of figure eight's and other skills. What I want to improve is my cross over and my drive. Oh and I'm pretty good at defense. Play low and stay low.

@OKCThunder That team is the bomb I love them! OT: Dang you did all of that? I probably should of said this in the thread but I'm in Middle School so sorry for making you type all of that. I have one question though. Where do you get ankle weights? And are there any easy things to do to improve my game? And did you see that game last night it was really close? Thanks for all the help

@FuGeeLa There aren't many gyms nearby. I could probably play against my friend who's good and lives sorta close to me. He plays on a team

@Lightning715 Local gym or court? There should be several places nearby you don't necessarily have to know anyone

@FuGeeLa I wish I could and I know I need to because when I play with others I'm not as good, but I can't because none of my friends live near me and my neighbors hate me but thats another story.

@dontran18 It gets to repetitive

Just play like how you usually play.

Play with others. You learn a lot of other people and its good practice. That's what I used to do anyway.
