I can't really give out a proper age for either drinking/smoking. I would say it depends on the person's reasoning and maturity.
ITT: People who are ignorant of the negative effects of alcohol and who think smoking will automatically give you lung cancer.

OT: 16 for drinking, 18 for smoking.
Someone who actually has knowledge. The numbers for people with lung cancer from smoking are so small when you actually look at the number of people who have lung cancer in general. Drinking beer has been proven multiple times through science to actually be good for you. If you drink a pint a day then your heart is actually a lot healthier than most other peoples.

OT: I'd say the legal drinking age should go back down to 18. It's a reasonable age. If you're old enough to join the army and take someones life. Then you're old enough to have a drink afterwards.
Smoking should stay at 18. It's not as bad as everyone thinks. Get your facts straight before you start hating on cigarettes/cigars/other tobacco products. The government just hates the tobacco companies. That's the only reason America hates it. America is like a parrot. Whatever the government says, they instantly believe it's 100% true and they just run with it. If Tobacco were to stop selling, you'd see America's economy tumble even worse than it already has.

Whenever they want to. Let kids learn from mistakes. It'll make 'em smarter.

Drinking - Whenever, I had my first beer at 14, wine at 15, and I can handle it perfectly fine. Alcohol is not dangerous at all with some self-control and moderation, parents should be able to make that decision whenever they feel their kid is ready, and certainly adults should be able to drink.

Smoking - You should be able to choose when you're an adult, but I still think the right answer is "no".

Drinking - 21 but don't do it too much, people who drink a little (a beer every now and then) tend to have higher salaries and live longer
Smoking - never, it has no positive benefits and gives you problems (lung cancer, decreased physical state, makes it harder to breathe, makes your voice sound awful, makes your teeth yellow, makes you look like an old man, just don't do it)
I'm not understanding why people are saying that there needs to be an appropriate age for smoking weed. In case if you guys don't know yet, weed is illegal. You can still be 50 and will still be arrested for it. Weed doesn't need an age simply because it's illegal and you smoke it whenever you get an opportunity.

OT: 18 for drinking (in most countries you just have to reach the counter of the cashier's and they sell you alcohol) and cigarettes should remain the same (it's 18 now).
I don't think we're necessarily talking about when to make a substance legal. It's about when we believe the consequences of using said substances are acknowledged. For example, I don't think we should consume alcohol until we are at least 18. That way, our brain, albeit not fully developed, is much more developed than if we were 14. And equally important, the development of our livers.
As for marijuana, I believe when an individual has reached a mature stage in his/her life, then they can experiment. I think when you have your life more organized, then it's ok.

Any age; society just needs to teach when to do it, and how often one should practice the two.

Smoking: I don't care

I don't do either and as long as my life isn't negatively affected by a drinker or smoker, then I'll continue to not care.
Puerty much.

Drinking, eighteen. Smoking cigarettes, never. Weed, eighteen seems about right.

Anything before that and you're just asking for kids posting stuff like "LOL IM SO DURNK!1 LOOKKITT MEEEEE" Wait until you can appreciate it better, kids. Hangovers suck and being stoned is better when your friends have cars for snack runs.

Drinking: 16-18. Loads of people do it by then if not before anyways. Not including myself :v
Smoking: Dunno. I probably hate smoking a lot more than drinking because it stinky and makes me feel bad.

well, i would say if you must do either, do it at the legal age of 18 for smoking and 21 for drinking.
but either way, both can become addictive, so it's probably best to steer clear from either.

Drinking- In the womb. Get your mother to have some Tequilla Shots or something.
Smoking- Most of the people here (like me) are going to die alone, so hell, smoke 3 packs a day.

Honestly, I don't think there should be a age limit on smoking and drinking.

Already, kids are doing both of these as early as middle school. (What I have seen.) I think if a person is ready for it and wants to try it, let them. Either they like it or they don't. They can learn from their mistakes growing up. Honestly, I haven't tried either, but I have had many opportunities to. I don't do it because I know my body, and I've known my body since I was 12. I knew I get addicted to thing easily, and knowing the addiction of both decided on not doing them. We already let people mess up their lives due to both of them, so why not let them mess it up earlier. I might sound harsh, but it is true.

I don't think it's good to do either of them so both never. Drinking in small amounts though like a cup of wine for dinner and such doesn't seem bad at all to me so yeah. ^^

17 for drinking because that's when most people graduate high school. 5 years old for smoking.

In Vietnam there's no legal age for drinking and smoking, neither in Mexico.

*shrugs* anytime so long as it's in moderation, but our society doesn't buy that, so I'll play it safe and say +16.

I honestly think that drinking and smoking age restrictions should be removed.

If something bad happens to a 5yr old drinking/smoking then oh well; learn from the mistakes.

And its not like most people obey age restrictions anyway so not much will be different.

However for adult material i think it should be around 13~16 because the majority of adolescents around that age range already do graphic things anyway (just so we are clear: im not talking about 13~16yr olds performing in the adult material; i just think it should be allowed for their viewing).

For drinking, I believe that it should be legal if you're 16, but you can't exceed a certain amount, like you have to take a breath test before buying a drink, and 18 for whenever you want.
For smoking, never, you have to be an absolute idiot to do it.

Well, I "technically" started smoking weed at 15.
And I turned out pretty damn well at almost 18.

Alcohol, I've never really had alcohol. Could never get a hold of it.
So I can't give an anecdotal suggestion.

Just try things when you feel old enough and think you can handle it. No need to rush into this kind of thing.

Cigarettes are nasty, I tried one and thought "this is freaking stupid".
But yeah, I say that 16 is fine for drinking since it's legal in Europe and I had no problem while I was down there.
