I was hacked. Again
Alright, this is complete bull. I logged off last night in VL after hitting 40% and happily went to bed. Log on this morning and instantly notice something isn't right. My Specs are gone. I just figured Nexon mistook them for generated specs, and did another wave of item wipes. I go do some attacking, and notice my damage is just absolutely terrible. Open my equips, and realize; I have nothing. All of my items are gone. I open my inventory, praying I'd unequiped it all and no... Everything is gone there too. Completely wiped. Even the items that people have no reason for taking, they took. All my mesos, my few chairs, and my nebs. All. Gone.
"Oh, Reid. You're silly. You weren't hacked, you went onto bad websites or shared your info, you silly man." No.

This has happened before, and after the first hacking I changed up my tactics. I have 2 computers. This one, my silly old laptop that is used for nothing else but interneting, and my desktop, that is used for nothing but gaming. On my desktop, I never open a website, I never open Skype, I uninstalled most programs that can even touch the internet. On my laptop, I don't go to bad sites that may keylog. What do I go to? Facebook, youtube, reptilboards, woot, and craigslist. That's it. I don't even check my mail on this computer, all my mail is checked through my android phone.

Nope, I don't share my info with anyone. Screw people. My stuff was worth more than my trust for anyone of my friends. I don't give out my info. I don't give out anything. My email is not the same one I use for communication, it is only Maplestory. My password and PIC are a series of long and, seemingly, random numbers and letters. 12 digit long password and 16 digit long PIC. There is no way someone "guessed" this crap.
In conclusion, there is NO way this is my fault. I took all precautions that I could possibly have taken. I dont share info, I don't go to sites that would ever compromise anything. This is 100% Nexon's lack of security. This is complete bull and Nexon is such a failure at protecting their players. They couldn't protect their own ass if it came down to it.

Uhh... You're quite pathetic.. your items were more worth than the trust of your friends? I can't tell if you're serious or not, but you need to get off maple and rethink your decisions.. If I was your friend and I read this thread I'd probably never talk to you again and tell your other friends lol.. Also, if you were any smarter you would know that after getting hacked once you would make a new account because obviously if hes hacked you once what makes you think he can't do it again with the same account idiot.. You probably just kept on playing with the same account..

How did you determine what their IP was? If it's because they logged into your email or something, then the fault was on your side, not Nexon's...

After the first time you were hacked, I assume you completely reinstalled your OS on any computer you play MS from, right? If not, it's likely malware you've simply had all along.

It's not worth it to start up again. What is the guarantee that you will not get hacked again? I would personally just quit.

I got hacked during the time that I quit... which makes no sense to me -_-
I had the SAME experience. Never gave password to anyone, i just use my laptop for gaming/word/excel. I change my password just as nexon says (every 3 months) and one day... boom! I lost almost everything! my 7 evolving rings I and all my evo rings II ...sigh, all my mesos and all my tradeable equips I sent a ticket and nexon is STILL solving this issue (like they are going to do something... grrr) I don't know how they did it... but it's frustrating to advance in a game with a bad (if at all) custumer service and full of hackers
You logged onto your maplestory account via site using your internet surfing computer, somewhere in your life. Or similar basil and ms account info.

I got hacked once. My gifted 15% str vss, gone. Also my 6% str earrings and evo ring II...
Even though u try to avoid any connections with websites, scan ur pc often for any spyware/viruses (2-4 times weekly), delete ur tmp files, useless registry key, surfing traces (even though you do not go on IE, or any other browser), and update ur softwares. You aren't 100% protected if u do not scan at a weekly basics.
But i do agree this is a fault at nexon partly. They do not even suggest or made a decision to SECURE there website like bank websites and hotmail to prevent spywares (such as keyloggers, and RAT users) on finding ur pass & user.

That post on how to not get hack have some good suggestions but it also contain a lot of misunderstanding of technical issues and have some conclusions based on false assumptions.

Anyway, yes they did have leaks before. Though I have no idea if they made it more secure, maybe they have fixed it up a bit but those leaks
did cause lots of hacked maplers.
How do we prevent random farmer hacking from happening?
From all the hacking posts I have read, especially those that didn't play for a long time (years) and found they were hacked recently, that all points to some type of database leak, it may not be the traditions type of leak where hackers were able to hack into the database, it could be from a rouge Nexon employee and/or a hacker mole working for Nexon and passing the info to the hackers to gain some extra money.
You have 2 options right now:
1.) Make a totally new account. Get help from friends to get back on your feet. Make sure to submit a ticket. In around 7-8 months they'll give you some free items.
OR
2.) Quit, and continue with your life. Play another game, or just focus on something else C:

Once a meso farmer hacks you once, he'll come back again and again. This is all from my experience. I had to quit my Mercedes because of this.

I have been thinking of quitting myself I have been playing since day 1 on and off and have never been hacked but the fact that there are so many new ways to do it is absurd. What disgusts me most is Nexon's Index Finger it is always pointing to the players and Hackers and never at their Security. I wish someday someone hacks MapleStory Servers So badly and publicly shows how easy it was for them to do so and sends them the video of it happening even Live would be awesome. Nexon Worries more about their Pocket than they do about anything else and they have the NERVE to try and sue Websites that sell the gold and BT Services and state that those things are causing players to quit... FYI Nexon its not the H@>< they sell its Bull S*** You feed your customers in this game.

I'm really sorry for your loss and I'm totally agree with you.
This is one of the reason that made me quit Maple. No, I haven't been hacked, but the complete lack of security just suck.
I don't know if wishing you goodluck with getting back on your feet or else, just consider if all the hard wark to get back some good gear is worth the pain...That and the risk of losing everything again ofc.

It wasn't a keylog, I can tell you this right now.
My sister made a maplestory character back in 2009, and quit, in 2009, hasn't logged in since.
But last week, I noticed her character was online, and she was at school. She lost about 1b in items from that.
My point being this, she hasn't logged in for over 3 years, yet she got hacked, and her password wasn't weak.

In all honesty, I can't fathom why I'd be targeted. I don't showboat. I don't have enemies in game, I dont insult people, I help people out often. I don't use Item Smegas or anything. I'm just... there.

I've got a great job, I go out with friends on weekends, I have a beautiful fiancee, and a decent car. I see my family on occasion. I have a life, just because I've played since then, doesn't mean I use every spare second I have to sit here and play. Thanks for trying though c:

I realized that in Maple, you either get hacked or your account gets blocked for "NX refunding". One of my old mule accounts was hacked when I don't ever play on it. I know it got hacked because it had a couple ancient event items... just some things you can't get anymore, and they took 150m off the mule. I know I don't have anything on my laptop because I take steps to main a good security.. The my main got blocked for NX Refunding when I didn't go on and play it for a month, nor did I charge NX on it for atleast half a year.
