Opinions on making Contraceptives Free

Chat Forum Talk about topics not related to MapleStory

I am taking a course during the summer. For this, I was assigned a topic by my teacher, and I must write about the "two points of views" on a method of solving an issue. The issue I was assigned was teen pregnancies. For this issue, a possible solution could be to for the government (of Canada) to subsidize the costs of contraceptives, to allow low income people (or teenagers, who often have no income) to purchase these contraceptives free of charge. Now I can obviously see some of the pros of doing this; reducing the rates of teen pregnancies. I could also say that we could potentially contact the ministry of education, and encourage them to further educate teens about teen pregnancies. Im having a bit of trouble seeing the disadvantages of doing this..

This is why Ive come here! I want to have your opinions, give me some advantages of the government subsidizing the costs of contraceptives, and further educating children about teen pregnancies, and what are some disadvantages of doing this?

Thanks!

Contraceptives aren't free and there is no "cure" for cancer because pharmaceutical firms want money.

better than having a baby when you're 16. im all for free contraceptives and i think in America there are many programs used to help teen girls with free or almost free contraceptives and preventative health care. look up Title X

Most insurances that's I've noticed usually cover them here in the us. Along with having the government program to pay for them I think they should be switched to OTC based items so in an emergency situation you can buy it out if pocket if your doctor couldn't prescribe it for you depending on specific situation. It's more so the fact that buying said contraceptive from the corner store can be incredibly embarrassing. I'm 18 and have been ___ active on and off for the last 4 years. Back when I was much younger, I didn't have to worry about buying those items, as believe it or not but my girlfriends mother bought and gave her a box of these items about a month in to us seeing each other. The most recent event that created a need to purchase such an item (about a month ago), I totally chickened out, and have to this day never had it in me to buy them. Luckily that last time the girl had one that she got from a university tour.

Back to the point though, all that really needs to change is the stigma behind buying those items, or using them in some cases. If a girl feels like she needs to go on the pill, a parent should never say no to them, as I know a few girls who that has happened to. Lots more people are just plain embarrassed to engage in anything related to sexual activity outside of the bedroom.

@betaboi101: you're right in that they are not free, however that is the whole point of subsidization[/quote]

No what needs to change is you need to put on your big-boy pants and stop being so damn self-cautious, wow. You probably need to work on your confidence, you shouldn't feel that way at all. Are you embarrassed for being sexually active and/or are you ashamed because religion has told you that contraceptives are blasphemous? I can understand the latter because of the cognitive dissonance that you're experiencing between two conflicting belief systems. But if not I don't understand, help me understand your feelings.

There already is a free contraceptive out there its called abstinence. And there is no "cure" for cancer because there are a million ways of causing damage to genetic material such that the checkpoints of mitosis are bypassed and there is no compound yet that selectively destroys/repairs these cells without damaging the rest of your body.

those two things aren't even related. it costs way more for states to fund abortions than to subsidize contraceptives.

Sounds like another Rush Limbaugh level of understanding how things like that work. Is that your source for sex ed info..?
