Order Classes by Survivability/Tankiness

General MapleStory Forum Talk about MapleStory in general

So we all know, Paladin is the tankiest class, and I'm sure Bishop is 2nd in place because the damn thing heals so much.

Of all these classes we have, can we order them by their survivability? From most tanky to least tanky? Does such a chart exist after the V patch? Damage DOES NOT MATTER, what matters is how forgiving is the class with its high hp, dmg reduction, hp recovery/regen, or guard/dodge rate. Consider that most new bosses deal %hp damage, so max hp isn't too impressive anymore. Yes there's still flat damage, just consider both.

Also I guess revives count because you'll still be in the map with them.
Status Resist can count but only minimally if two classes are evenly matched otherwise.
I am not sure how does Bind fit here, I mean it does make you survive longer. I guess so.
I'm so meh about mobility, yes it's good but everyone has tele/fj and nobody bothers to compare the two, especially with more unique mobility skills.

Assume all jobs have no funding, and is just using the Frozen set or the like.

So I'll start and then you guys can correct me.

Pally
Bishop
...
..DB?
Help me.
Jett.
Merc.
and then someone says beginner, but citizen should be here
let's just not count any beginner-like jobs.

DA with their massive hp and healing are probably 2nd
Shads are probably 3rd due to all their iframes and shield mastery
Afterwards I'd probably put Drks and the mage classes due to their healing and damage reduction respectively.
Not sure after that.
Edit: DS's can also heal consistently and have some damage reduction, so I'd put them just above drks

@ecarina: K I'll be serious, or i'll try to order them within their jobs and then I hope someone can put them all together. Someone said it's easier to get an answer if you state the incorrect answer than just simply asking a question. That's good because I have no idea with these other classes.

Ok, now correct me and tell me all their defensive skills and compare/contrast. I'd like to hear someone who actually has full experience with the job, up to 5th job.

Hmm, maybe I should make a thread for each job branch, so it would be easier to discuss and organize.

Are you people seriously putting battlemage that low?
We have more defense than shad, nearly the same avoid rate, at least twice the HP, %damage reduction, and passive recovery.
Battlemage is definitely in the top 5.

actually shade is one of the tankiest classes in the game, it has 100% stance and can resist a lot of hits, it has decent amount of hp and has a skill that revives them , also has a skill that prevents 3 hits of dmg and has good dodging skills, idk y no one mentioned this .

Mobility and sustain are huge factors here. That being said, Paladin is actually not the best when it comes to being the "tankiest" since they're inefficient in both departments. I would rank the top 3 as:

1. Bishop - Holy Magic Shell, Heaven's Door, Angel Ray's sustain, and telecasting are absolutely insane when taking on higher-end bosses. You're given a lot of safety nets against devastating blows as well as infinite healing that doesn't cut into your DPS.

2. Shade - Backstep and Spirit Bond I are honestly all that are needed, making this class practically untouchable against the majority of bosses without minding too much of your own vulnerability. Death Mark further increases that healing and can be reset with Spirit Flow. On top of all this, Summon Other Spirit grants an innate revive for when you do mess up.

3. Battle Mage - Draining Aura and Party Shield basically makes this class invincible. However, their short range, low uptime on Party Shield, and generally awkward mechanics keeps them from maintaining sustainability.

Honorable mentions are Paladin (Sacrosanctity, damage reduction, awkward self-heal, low range, low mobility), Hayato (high mobility, high inherent sustain, vulnerable), Mihile (Royal Guard, Rho Aias low mobility), and Dark Knight (I know little about this class but apparently has sustain and innate revive).

@derkion: That makes me question whether stance even gives survivability. It's nice to have and it'll keep your DPM constant, but it doesn't do much else. I question it even more than bind, because at least bind can stop the threat for a set duration.

I wouldn't give stance much consideration, I think it only matters defensively on Zakum and Lotus.. that's all I got. Like it's nice, but it's not like "whoa stance? That means the class must be very TANKY" nah.

@peachtime I thought everyone was in agreement about paladin, and truthfully I never played pally on the newer bosses so I don't know if I can actually afk/brb and come back without much hurry just like the older bosses. I guess everyone is as naive as I am about pally with the new content right?

Party Shield is outdated, a lot of new bosses basically ignore it, even if it's not a 1HKO move. Doesn't really work with BaM's new telecasting playstyle either the player often goes out of the shield's range (so I would call it worse than Shad's smokescreen even if that is also outdated). I'd trade this skill for Body Boost back. BaMs do however have a skill that recovers 1k hp every 4 seconds that can go on top of draining aura. I only use PT shield on PB, and when I want to drop or CC in a crowded map.

Also about mobility, if we're going to add that into survivability I must ask, which is better? FJ or Teleport? Then we got unique movement skills such as BaM's tele (can tele in midair, and set destination in midair), WA's and Mech's hover thing. Then we gotta consider push and pull skills, and their range. (Like bowman's Hookshot has some incredible range.)
